Suspension Help

Hey Chris, how are things going? Thanks for the welcome back and the suggestions, I will look into them. I'm trying a rear tire size change and that was the reason for the post. I'm going from a 180 to a 190 rear tire. Has anyone in the WOS group tried that? Anyway, the pocket bike is a blast. My son is still a little gun shy after his initial experience on it but I'm having a blast with it. :dthumb: How's the custom chopper riding?

There is also Detroit Superbike and I believe alot of the track guys like them as well. Further, on the tire. Your turn in on the bike will be adversly effected. Not too mention you need to check your clearences. Although I don't think the 180 to 190 have much difference in width. What are you trying to ackomplish with the size change? I think you will find that the more common change is actually the reverse... from 190 to 180 for better corning. The chop riding ROCKS. I love it!:drool:

To be honest with you, I'm not sure what I'm trying to accomplish. Maybe some extra confidence at the track. I don't know. I have a friend that races WERA and AMA and he's the one that told me to give it a try. What he told me was, with the taller tire, he was able to get on the gas earlier and harder. It gave him a bigger contact patch and he said he felt more planted in a mid or full lean. Now with all that said, he also noted that some suspension changes MUST be done. Raise this 10mm, adjust this ??mm, tighten that ?mm..... I kind of know the basics about suspension but I believe that for this to work, I will need someone that knows what's up to set it up for me. Hence my post. I'm not sure what I will get out of this but I think it's worth a try. Do you do the Wed. RO thing? Have you checked out that new chopper store at Maple and Crooks? Some awesome bikes there.

I have yet to do the RO wed night... cause I work every wed! :damn: I have been in American Chopper... was looking at a sweet bobber for the wife there! I really don't believe your guy is right. I think the contact patch while in lean is going to be the same. The tires are going to have the same geometry regardless of the size change. More likely the changes to his suspension is what made him feel more confident and more planted. You would be surprised what the suspension changes will do for the bike's feel... then when the bike feels better you feel more confident. You can also go to a track day and most of the time they have race team mechanics there along with many speed shops that will be more than happy to setup your suspension for you with you on the bike...right in the pits. I think it usually costs between $50 - $100.
