Change oil filter each time?

Do you change the oil filter on your bike each time you change the oil? I've got one on order, but I have the oil now. I'd like to just do it, but I'm wondering if I should wait for the filter.

according to the oil gurus, if I remember right, using amsoil wouldnt require changing the filter every time..but Im so used to doing it, i dont think I could change the oil w/ out changing the filter. geez shan, ur really stirring up the oil gods today huh :lol:

I have mine changed everytime I get the oil changed. :)

I think the Amsoil guys said they change the filter and keep the oil, which would make more sense than the other way around. However, I change the filter every time I change the oil. Larry

WOW, Shan you got your hat on backwards!! You ALWAYS CHANGE your filter. For God's sake ALWAYS! That is super important. As Larry said, the Amsoil guys will tell you to change the filter and leave the oil. You have to change the filter to get rid of all the dirt, containiments, and pieces of your engine out of the oil. Not to mention on a MC the pieces and shavings of your clutch! Especially you Shan with your TLS! Just wait on the filter and do it right the first time! Change oil and filter. Dirty oil has dirt and acids that are in suspension, too fine to be filtered by the filter. Anyway, the filter can't filter out gas and acid, plus the oil loses stability from heat aging. I have the 2003 results from Motorcycle Consumer News, where they tested 30 oils for heat aging, anti-wear additives, acid neutralizers, and viscosity. I also have the 1994 MCN tests of synthetic vs petroleum vs car vs bike oils. I'll put the results in a separate thread (insert flaming smilie here).

I have the Scotts "never ever need another" filter. It is sweet and well worth the money on race bike because you change the oil and filter very often.
