Did someone say SV650S? :D
I've got a 1999 I imported from Canada, it's been a good bike depite my blatant disregard for any type of periodic maintenance. I would highly recommend one.
Are you thinking a new bike or used? Need4Speed 10-05-2004, 07:05 PM The SV will treat you well for a long time, and u wont grow out of it as quick as the 500 ninja or gs500s. all good bikes though! jdog 10-05-2004, 07:16 PM I say get a '01 Katana 750, talk to me if your interested, oh and welcom to TWF. :dthumb: Need4Speed 10-05-2004, 07:21 PM u know jdog, if u dont sell that Kat by spring, we're meetin up for a ride!! ok, done jackin this thread, just had to throw that in.... jdog 10-05-2004, 07:28 PM Don't worry, if I don't sell it by then it's a trade in. :jacked: :sorry: Mojo 10-05-2004, 07:30 PM If you are seriously considering an SV, then you should seriously consider a Ducati Monster 620ie. The suspension is miles better, and they can be had for close to the same price. There is currently one of each sitting in my shop right now, and believe me, there's no comparison! Gas Man 10-05-2004, 10:08 PM The SV will treat you well for a long time, and u wont grow out of it as quick as the 500 ninja or gs500s. all good bikes though!
I'm with Matt on this one! I owned a ninja 500 b4 and rode a SV650S. The SV is really nice, for a v-twin...
However, I dis-agree with Mojo. A guy that rides with WOS just got ride of a monster because he didn't like the maintance and it's quirks. The Duc's are like the Harleys of the sportbike world. They have a terrible maintance regement. :2cents: Mudpuppy 10-05-2004, 10:48 PM My choice - neither - buy an R6 and be done with it. :2cents: Mojo 10-06-2004, 12:03 AM However, I dis-agree with Mojo. I've heard that from people who don't have them. My best friend has a 996 with 16k miles on it that he's done little other than change the oil on...
Being a 2v motor, the Monster requires even less maintenance. rockadaous 10-06-2004, 12:36 AM I say get a '01 Katana 750, talk to me if your interested, oh and welcom to TWF. :dthumb:
I secound that. check em out.... Need4Speed 10-06-2004, 01:03 AM I secound that. check em out....
what the heck..IM a proud Kat rider too...dont overlook a Kat, great all around bike!! Gas Man 10-06-2004, 06:00 AM I've heard that from people who don't have them. My best friend has a 996 with 16k miles on it that he's done little other than change the oil on...

Well, I'm glad to hear that. I just contantly hear about what I said. I'm glad to hear the opposite for a change... :bash: fatburg 10-06-2004, 08:20 AM Hey if your diggin the half nekkid look, take a look at the yami-FZ6. Similar but uses an inline 4 over the v-twin. I'm lovin mine so far.
Don't you just love it when you ask about two particular bikes, and everyone talks about everything but those two..hehe. dubbs 10-06-2004, 09:42 AM Thanks for all your suggestions, i saw that kat its NICE!!.. If you could wait untill around March, I would most definitly without a doubt get it. Being 18 going to college and only working 20 hours a week, and having a brand new car hurts the bank account a bit. Being a computer tech at a local school helps because of the 20$ an hour. I should have enough money saved by then. I really like it man.. nice bike Need4Speed 10-06-2004, 11:10 AM yeah, thats just how cool we are..you ask about suggestions for bikes you've narrowed it down too..then we go and throw a wrench in the works.. :smash:
but it's all good..as long as u find the one thats right for you, thats all that matters :) dubbs 10-06-2004, 11:17 AM Is a katana750 too big for a beginner? its only got 90 hp but its 500+lbs i know i can take it easy until i learn to ride well, but what are your opinions? I rode my friends 04 zx6r and theres a $h*T load of bike there. Thanks for your replies Need4Speed 10-06-2004, 11:21 AM kats are great all around bikes..they are a bit heavier than ur average sportbike...most beginners would go for the 600 kat instead, but if u feel comforable after sitting on one..go for it , you'll save urself the growing out if stage then for a good long time. She'll treat you well if u got that route, and u've got alot of support here !
conversley, there are many people who get a 600 and stick with it..whatever floats ur boat. Mojo 10-06-2004, 03:31 PM My best friend (the guy with the 996) used to have a katana 600. That bike was bulletproof! Never had a single problem with it. jdog 10-06-2004, 04:01 PM email sent :) dubbs 10-06-2004, 05:43 PM Send Email again, i didnt get it, or just post it here jdog 10-06-2004, 06:05 PM dubbs693@hotmail doesn't work. dubbs 10-06-2004, 08:24 PM dubbs693@hotmail.com is definitly my email Need4Speed 10-06-2004, 08:33 PM dubbs693@hotmail doesn't work.

THANK YOU !!! jdog 10-06-2004, 09:32 PM I sent another email(3 time), if it don't work here are some pics. It has 13,000miles and has been very well taken care of. It would be a great beginner bike, lots of power, looks great, very customizable, and a rare color. After market gel seat and bar risers give it an awesome touring quality. You had mentioned that you will travel to school on it. Long trips aren't a problem, as you can tell from my miles. Very easy to maintain, I have the Haynes shop manuel for it. For a few extra bucks I have two HJC CS12 matching helmets med. and lg. A motorphoria lg. mesh riding jacket w/pads and removable liner. Oringinal seat and windscreen I still have for new buyer. Need4Speed 10-06-2004, 09:37 PM Beautiful Kat jdog...looking sweet!!! GSXR1000DJ 10-06-2004, 09:41 PM Dang it. Thats waht I was going to say. Nice pics there jdog. Mudpuppy 10-06-2004, 09:54 PM Yes the Kat is a great starter bike in my opinion. JHC finally I found some people who agree - I was saying that like 6 months ago when someone in WOS bought a Trimuph TT and now they are selling it - why? Because THEY SHOULD HAVE FUGGIN LISTENED TO ME! That problem will be solved when I am leader of the free world. Buy the Kat - 600 or 750. Ride it - they pretty much ride themselves - nice riding bike for a heavy bike. Learn it well grasshoppa and then, you knew this was coming, buy an R6 and tear it up. You didn't think I was actually going to post something bike related without a Yamaha plug in there did you? dubbs 10-07-2004, 08:47 AM Jdog how long you think your gonna hold on to it for? I'm gonna try to get some cash together but it mite not be for a couple months. That is a great bike im lovin the color the condition n the equip that comes with. Let me know how long you gonna hold on to it for cause i really want it twisty 10-07-2004, 08:51 AM im deciding between a ninja 500/gs500 or a sv650s
I would get the 650s. It is a great bike for anyone. And the motor is really refined. :luck: Gas Man 10-07-2004, 07:27 PM I would get the 650s. It is a great bike for anyone. And the motor is really refined. :luck:
THAT'S WHAT I SAID!!! :withstupi Mudpuppy 10-07-2004, 09:58 PM I would get the 650s. It is a great bike for anyone. And the motor is really refined. :luck:
I would get a GSXR 1k or 750 but I am not cool enough.. lol.. Need4Speed 10-07-2004, 10:01 PM I would get a triumph.......ok, well, maybe/maybe not, but I just wanted to be different from all the gixxer/kawa/zuki/yamaha talk...
 twisty 10-08-2004, 05:22 AM I would get a GSXR 1k or 750 but I am not cool enough.. lol..
No your not. Plus they might scare you and keep you up all night with nightmares. Then you go see a doctor and they give you these little with pills. I call them my little white friends....... :screwy: Gas Man 10-08-2004, 05:35 AM I call them my little white friends....... :screwy:
That takes on a whole new meaning if your Cal-e.... :bash: Mudpuppy 10-08-2004, 11:31 AM No your not. Plus they might scare you and keep you up all night with nightmares. Then you go see a doctor and they give you these little with pills. I call them my little white friends....... :screwy:
I have little white friends as well, I am with you on that one. Um, thanks for the vote of "no your not". I was headed to the GSXR dealer for a new 1k but now I am not because Twisty won't let me into his GSXR clubhouse. Guess I have to stick with the second rate Yamaha. Need4Speed 10-08-2004, 06:18 PM to unjack this thread... there is a good write-up in this months motorcyclist mag, about the SV650S, FZ6 and Honda 599...might help give you some good info.
ok..back to the 08 reign discussion. :D Mojo 10-08-2004, 06:26 PM I'd still be going for a Monster 620ie. The suspension on the SV is crap by comparison. dubbs 10-08-2004, 06:34 PM im buying jdog's kat Need4Speed 10-08-2004, 06:43 PM im buying jdog's kat
Sweet!! a new Kat owner is on the way!!! Congrats..when you picking it up ? dubbs 10-08-2004, 07:23 PM idk i still have to talk to him and work out the details.. but 99% sure im gettin it

unless nows ok? Mudpuppy 10-08-2004, 10:05 PM Not knowing your riding experience but assuming from your 18 and in college comment I think that you will find the Kat is a very good bike for you. Hope it works out well for you. | |
