I just rode with these guys last night and it was great, all different bike types and skill levels! It seems like they do a lot of rides and they don't charge anything. Let me know if anyone is thinking of checking out the GR one, especially the Thurs night rides, cuz I'm all about meeting new ppl to ride with.
pickle.of.doom 06-30-2006, 12:13 PM Never heard of em, looks cool, but damn, those people need to be careful posting their full name, home address, home phone work phone and cell phone all on the www...

No kidding, there is no way I'll let them post all my $h!t up there. My info got stolen once already and some a-hole was messing with my credit so I'm super paranoid about what I let out there.
They seem like a pretty cool group of guys, granted it was my first group ride, but it was a lot of fun. We were out for about 3-4 hours hitting up the back roads and curvys.
Gas Man 06-30-2006, 08:24 PM Looks like they are a riding group free from motorcycle style specifics!
What was the cruiser to sportbike ratio?

When I went here in GR there were 3 sport bikes and 6 "others" including a Harley, an old Honda standard bike, a KLR dual-sport, a Honda Valkyrie Rune (sweet bike!), and a variety of others. It was a good time! :dthumb:

Awesome!
Rider 07-03-2006, 11:32 AM :iagree: Im not sure I would want my contact info posted up. Maybe if it were restricted to members only... But there is no way I would post giving access to non members. Would be nice though to ride with some people. I have had my bike for 2 months and have ridden alone the entire time.
Knight 07-03-2006, 01:22 PM You should meet up with us for one of our Thursday night rides and see how you like it sometime. This week we're meeting out by the Shell gas station at Kalamazoo Ave and M-6 at 6:30 pm

That will probably be back up at the Knapp's Corner Meijer gas station at the same time.

That will work better since I live right off of Knapp just east of the Beltline.
justpucky 07-03-2006, 03:56 PM Do they ever depart from the west side of town?
Knight 07-05-2006, 12:39 PM I'm not sure if they ever meet on the west side. If you know a bunch of good roads out there I'm sure they would consider it. When I went we did very little riding actually in GR and we didn't even stay close to where we met really; we were out on curvy roads in Rockford, Lowell, Ada, etc. We put on about 100 miles because the weather and road conditions were perfect, if they are less than perfect then I guess they'll go less, like 60 or so. You should check it out sometime, there is no committment or anything so you can try it once and never go again or go to every event they're at and it doesn't make any difference.
Knight 07-06-2006, 11:34 AM I may be working late tonight so I'm not sure if I'll be out in time for the ride @ 6:30 :disapp: But I'm gonna try!

I'll be ready in about 3 weeks, but someone's going to have to pick me up. I'll be on my learners permit for a while.
Knight 07-06-2006, 02:37 PM That's cool, I'm sure we can work something out! and you don't have to worry about keeping pace or anything like that. These guys are very safety conscious and won't hassle you at all unless its a safety tip. You'll get more crap for pushing it beyond your comfortable limit than for going slow.

I can come pick you up. I assume your not way out west like grand haven right?

Nope, actually 3 days AFTER my MIARNG unit went on alert (2004) I closed on my new (old) house. Sold a manufactured house down by Sandy Pines, and bought a 106 yr old fixer upper right in town... I'm by the south end of John Ball Park. But there's no way I'm riding accross town alone, on a learners permit... to many idiot cages.
Has anyone in the Grand Rapids area checked out the selection at Peacock Ltd. extreme sportswear? (http://www.peacockltd.com/miscpage_010.asp) I have a jacket, but It doesn't quite fit right, I'll use it spring and fall when I may have a bulky sweatshirt under and ride with the liner in. I think I'd like another jacket with out a liner that fits a little more snug. But there aren't many places that I know of with a large selection of gear.... I need to try some stuff on, online doesn't work for me right now... not for clothing.
Knight 07-07-2006, 11:00 AM I actually was thinking about going over there an checking that place out since I live 1/4 mile away from there but I have not gotten around to it yet. Let me know how it is if you get there before I do!
Pippi 07-07-2006, 11:35 AM so besides me, Gas & Pickle on the east side of the state you other Michiganders are from the GR and west areas?

Hunter, GR 750 and my self are all inside GR.

I'll hit it on the way home from buying the bike tomorrow.
Knight 07-07-2006, 11:46 AM Sweet, be sure to post up and let us know how it is! Don't forget to post pics if you get anything!!!!
Pippi, I'm in GR for now but I will be moving to Ann Arbor at the end of August for graduate school so I'll have to hook up with you east-siders once i'm out there!
Pippi 07-07-2006, 12:10 PM Cool - well see ya in August then!

Congrats on the new bike
Rider 07-07-2006, 01:12 PM I have been to Peacock LTD. Not much of a selection at all. The best place in GR for selection is Shawmut Hills on Lk Michigan Ave. It sounds like you live real close to that Pucky.
Knight 07-07-2006, 02:32 PM That's kinda what I figured, there was no way that a mall shop was going to have near the selection that Shawmut does. Oh well.
justpucky 07-07-2006, 07:32 PM That's kinda what I figured, there was no way that a mall shop was going to have near the selection that Shawmut does. Oh well.
I was in Shawmut last week, and on the floor their pushing the custom choppers. In the shop it was mostly dirt bikes, some water accessories. One wall was all parts, but the gear that was for "street" was all black leather, lots of fringes, not much CE armor, absolutely no pucks, and no foot gear for the racing / sport bike crowd, only tourers... I won't spend any money there.
Knight 07-10-2006, 09:54 AM If you go to Shamut's website you'll see that they can order lots of stuff for sport riding. :2cents:
justpucky 07-10-2006, 11:34 AM If you go to Shamut's website you'll see that they can order lots of stuff for sport riding. :2cents:
But I still don't know what size to get, that's the problem, I can order anything online (or find it cheaper on Ebay) but what size???????
On another note, I saw a post this morning from Hotshoe here on TWF. His location was Wyoming, MI. He hasn't shown his head much, but you guys might want to invite him if you're doing the group ride this Thursday.
Gas Man 07-11-2006, 02:52 AM Pucky if you want to get your gear... go to Rec Leisure in Farmington Hills... they have so much stuff there its sick!

I'll keep that in mind, but I was over your way two weeks ago... there was so much construction heading into town it was down to one way... took an hour to go 4 miles. :yikes: I think I'll wait a while. :sorry:
Pippi 07-11-2006, 09:37 AM Especially for girl gear its pretty much a must to try before you buy. I'm lucky Rec is so close.
Yea, a lot of roads are torn up over this way but its not so bad now if you take the 69/96/M-5 Grand River to Rec.
Rider 07-12-2006, 03:19 PM That will probably be back up at the Knapp's Corner Meijer gas station at the same time.
Hunter,
They still meetin up here tomorrow?
Knight 07-12-2006, 04:02 PM Yeah that's the plan, at 6:30. At this point the weather looks like it shouldn't be an issue but I'll let you know if I hear anything different. Do you think you'll be able to make it?
Rider 07-12-2006, 04:04 PM I will definatly be there.
Knight 07-12-2006, 04:09 PM Sweet! Just so things don't get hung up when you get there, you should go to their website and print out the waiver (http://www.ridemotorcycle.com/Welcome/Assets/Waiver.pdf) so that you can have it filled out and set when you get there otherwise it may take some time and everyone just wants to get on the road. I don't think you have to fill out all the personal details (I wouldn't so it doesn't end up on the web) but the main thing is the waiver part.
Rider 07-12-2006, 04:11 PM Ok Thanks, I will print it out and sign before I get there.
Knight 07-13-2006, 01:20 PM Sweet. See ya tonight! :cin:

Did you pick a handle? They dont need an address or phone for the waiver?
Rider 07-18-2006, 08:27 AM Where is the group meeting this week?
Knight 07-18-2006, 10:13 AM Kalamazoo Ave and M-6 at the Shell gas station. I live at Burton and the Beltline so if you wanted to meet at like 5:40ish and ride over there together we could do that. MO will be leading this week so the pace may be a little faster, but no promises...

Knight 07-18-2006, 12:31 PM Perfect. And this week I'm golfing Wed instead of Thurs so this time I'll be on time!
Gas Man 07-19-2006, 08:55 AM I love seeing fellow TWF'ers hook up for riding. It just rocks! Make sure you guys take pics!
