New To Riding

I am a new female rider and I am looking to buy a used bike.... I seen one for sale by a private owner kawasaki ninja 500R and I was wondering what questions to ask about the upkeep and maintance that has been done on the bike.....What bikes would you recommend for beginner female I'm about 5'10 135 pounds.

Have you taken the MSF course? If not, take it. It is good no matter what experience rider you are, everyone learns something. Save on insurance too. 500R sounds like a good place to start, look at the 250s and Suzuki GS500f. If you really feel like throwing caution to the wind, the Suzuki SV650 naked and s models and the Kawasaki ninja 650R is about the max most would recommend for beginners.

Do get out there and take your MSF before even looking at bikes, and then once you've taken it, get out and sit on every bike you can. Luckily you're tall, so that will work to your advantage (as in, the seat height won't be an issue for you). Also, when looking at bikes, be sure to budget between $700 and $1000 for GEAR (at the very least, armoured jacket with CD armour, gloves, helmet and boots). Along the way you can add other items (i.e. different jackets and gloves for different seasons, over-pants, kevlar reinforced jeans, etc....). And enjoy!! :welcome:

Thats a good bike, my ex Gf used to ride one before her gixxer, good bike and has some power when you wanna get twist happy, iether that or try to find a good condition ZX-6 or a YZF 600r, cheap bikes and good to learn on, 500 the best bet tho

Now I had narrowed it down to either the Ninja 500R or the SV 650S... The prevalent advice being to get a first bike under 600cc. I've looked and can not find sliders listed for the 500R... is it similar enough in size and shape to fit another bikes sliders? or If I want to take care of the bike as well as myself am I better off going with the SV? Seat height is a major issue for me (5'2") and I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two bikes. I will take the MSF before I get the bike (reservation is in for that class)... will the SV650S be too much if I approach it with caution? Or can you recommend sliders for a ninja 500R?
