Yup its MSF *phew* I figured it definitely wont hurt- I need to learn to ride properly!! and for the few hundred it costs my life's worth it! :dthumb: Yeahhhh and gear---Always!! I don't have boots or lined riding jeans yet. But helmet gloves and jacket are on any second I'm on the bike. Hahah from riding dirtbikes, it seems that if you leave *one* piece of gear out that day, that's where you'll always get hurt....so I bought all that stuff before I even signed up for the course

i know if i went with my girl they'd be yelling at me because I'd be trying to teach her stuff while they're trying to teach stuff. Hell, I went and visited my girl when she was doing the course and they yelled at me because i told her to put both feet down when she stopped.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!! This seems like an awesome place so far...I am definitely looking forward to picking up some tech tips and some riding do's and dont's as I scour the forum... As for the bike..not sure I have to go and sit on a whole wack of bikes to see what fits...but I'm kinda hoping to lean towards an r6. Does anyone have any thoughts on engine size for my first street bike?? Is a 600 too big- should I be looking more for a 500 or is 600 aight???

jeeps84
07-05-2006, 11:49 PM
:welcome: to TWF engine size? It depends mostly on you. You said you have some dirt experience so you are a few steps ahead of some. Can you control your self? That's the question when asking this one. If you can. A 6 should be fine. The 250's and 500's would be a better choice to learn on. Keep in mind the V twins (like the SV 650, SVS650 and the 650R) are a little bigger in engine size but not power. They are also more narrow which make the reach to the ground easer. Check some of the threads in the beginner section for more info on these bikes and this subject. Its discussed lots here.

DL... I plan on trying to get the wife her own bike next year. And when she takes the MSF I plan on taking it with her... just for support and amusement to myself.

I took the ERC. It was a fun class. I do recommend to get some seat time in before taking that level. The instructors will/should see weather they think you can safely do what the ask. Not all task are mandatory to pass and you don't get anything except some knowledge and a piece of paper at the end of the day. Its still worth doing and I quarantie that you will learn something.

Yeah I dont care about getting anything other than more skills out of it. I'm just looking for more knowledge... Here in PA they say to have 6mos. riding time before you take it. It's been 3 years since I took the BRC.

What do they do? Same ****, just higher speeds? Anything different? Some is the same. Just on your bike and maybe even more to the potential of your bike. ie. panic stop: On a class bike they would give you way more time to react. On a cruiser, they would adjust to you and the bike. On a sportbike, they would give way less reaction time. It was dry during my class and they wet down the curse to simulate maneuvers in the wet. Some street ridding was done with my class also but nothing crazy out there. Way to much to list really. I think its worth attending. I was going to take the regular class with the wife and ended up in that class instead.

Is that an advanced riding course you guys are talking about?? hahaha as far as control goes, I think I could. I like my life and I've never really been overly ballzy on my dirtbike so I doubt a streetbike would be any different...good advice though thanks:cheers:
