What is motorcycle racing at its best?

I know we have some race fans here and casual enthusiasts alike, so id like to know; What is motorcycle racing at its best? Is it the motards, MX, drag racing, or endurance series? Isle of Mann or Macau GP? The board trackers or dirt trackers? Club level or World Superbike roadracing? Did you like the vicious GP500's, or the current MotoGP990's? What series, race, or dicipline defines it to you, or what should it be if there is nothing that catches you now?

For me it doesn't really matter what category or series. I think racing at it's best is 2 or more battling in several corners for position.

Does the guy in front protect his position by staying in the middle of the track before the turn & the next guy try to pass on the outside?..........Does the guy behind the leader try to out-break & turn inside only to go wide & have the leader keep his line to re-pass him?.......For me, at least.......this kind of stuff puts me on the edge of my seat. :dthumb: :dthumb:

However, I am partial to 1000's in AMA, Moto GP, & FIM :wink:

I know it's cheap to say, but I enjoy it all... If I had to choose one, I would have to go with Supermoto... Got the street, got the dirt, got the names... It's got something for everyone...

Of course I'm biased, but I think small road bike racing gives you the best, closest racing of any! 125 GP is great to watch, and the Aust 125 GP class is just as entertaining. Motolites and Superlites are also great to watch, and to race in, because once you take away masses of horsepower, it comes down to the rider!

P.S. Next race, 6 Aug at Oran Pk. I'm hoping to do well, after some serious improvement to the bike's handling. I'll post results!

The isle of man is just insane. And then GP. The fastest guys on the fastest bikes on the most demanding tracks. Every 100th of a second counts! I wasn't into it during the 500's (because i didn't know) but I have watched "Faster" about ten times and heard the stories of how those things would just bite if you do one thing wrong. The whole Gary McCoy story had me feeling for the guy. I can't wait for the 800's. I wonder if Honda will just dominate like they are this year and previous years. I wonder if Valentino will look back on this year and switch teams or stick with Yamaha and try to win it.

me too. You know they are going to get big HP from the 800's but the power will have to be much more peaky than they are now. Mabye not so friendly? We will see.


It really IS hard to narrow it down to one being definitive. Its still up in the air for me, as i love the current MotoGP bikes. The best riders on "spare no expence, 101% purpose built, focused fast bikes." But i also love the (argueably superior) skill involved in wrangling a 500cc 2stroker, much less winning on one. And there is excelent racing in the 125 and 250 classes as well. Where there are multiple lines through every corner and just as many passes. Or "true" roadracing like the Isle of MAnn, MacauGP or the Northwest 200 where a mistake is more than likely fatal. But i also love the club level, club level of any dicipline, where guys with one bike and no money put it all out there for nothing more than themselves and debt. Im sure as i see more posts and pov's it will help me clear up my own picture of absolute motorcycle racing.

I do respect the privateers. They'll only go as fast as their wallets will let them, whereas the GP guys will only go as fast as their talents.

ISLE OF MANN!!!!..All the Way!!!!........Fear Factor is a True ingredient for real racing and you just don't get any better than that!!:wink:

Vale already re-upped with Yammi for '07, putting the current F1 rumors to rest. Personally, I think he is hanging around to see if he can add a new title (800cc) to his crown. Without that change, perhaps he might have gone ahead and made the move to F1. (?)
