i dont own a chocolate or know anyone who does, but the way i see it is, only get it if you can commit. you know in a few months there will be something cooler coming out and you may be kicking your own ass because you want the new thing.

it seems cell phones are getting further and further away from being a phone. pretty soon you'll have to buy a mp3 player to make a call because all your cell phone is good for is games and music. I've seen the "chocolate" advertised on verizon's site but honestly haven't looked at it at all:sorry:

It's just another attempt by verizon to snake oil you out of more money. They make you pay for every little add on feature they have to their network. Getting cameras or mp3 players on phones is kind of a waste, if you want a good camera or mp3 player, buy one and don't try to do this 2 or 3 for 1 deal with your phone. The add ons are most likely going to be crap.

I have t-mobile, and when I was in iraq I bought the HP iPAQ... it's a pocket PC, organizer, runs word, excel, MP3 (windows media player) I can view PDF's, use e-mail, and it's a cell phone. Never had a complaint about any of it (except that Gas doesn't like the resolution on the camera function). I've had it over a year now. No reason to upgrade, I like it.

It doesn't matter what you go with, if you get a product that is devoted to one thing it will always be better than a combo.

Yeah, but I can only carry so many accessories. Why have a PDA (which I used alot over there, and still do here) and a Cell phone, with an MP3 player, when I can get it all in one? One toy to watch over, or three toys to drop, break, and crush...

because some people like their toys top notch and not second rate, it just depends on what you need out of it. The mp3 player is going to be highly limited by memory, battery life is never the greatest on these things, cameras just suck on these things, while it is nice to have all these functions with one device, it is settling for mediocrity out of the options. You know you are arguing with an electrical engineer on electrical devices don't you?

I didn't buy it for the camera, Battery life is excellant if I charge it at night, MP3 player is only limited by the number of SD chips I use... I like to organize my play lists anyway. I don't need 40 Gig of music on one toy... 3-4 hours on shuffle works for my needs. I'm discussing functionality with an engineer... different argument. I know you guys are perfectionists... but your ideal doesn't always correspond with my needs. :yikes: that opens a whole 'nother box of worms. :leaving:

Sorry Pucky... but the pics sucked. I know, but it was either the cam phone, or a disposable camera and you guys wait for the film to be developed and transfered to CDROM. Seemed the better of two options.

What's the functionality in having to change out sd cards so you don't have to listen to the same song every few hours? I barely hear the same songs in a week. I don't have to charge my phone or my mp3 player every night. You will kill a battery fast if you do that. Not to mention you can get better quality of each piece of equipment by buying them seperate. Basically combos are a good way of saving money and items to carry without getting the quality of having them individually. If that is what you are seeking, then more power to you.

I spend most of my time listening to the radio, not the MP3 player. I don't need the capacity. And I certainly don't have the money to buy three toys when I only need one. I have the functionality I need at the price I can afford. I'd rather put the rest of my money into the house or the bike. Quality only becomes an issue at a certain performance level. I don't use my toys enough for that to be a concern. *****, it survived Iraq, it'll survive my daily life. Hey Belated happy B-day man... I dont' think anybody hit you up monday.

Not annoying, I like to argue too. I want people to THINK, not just parrot advertising. I've played on and off with the idea of getting something more dedicated like and IPOD, but right now, I don't use it enough to justify the cost, when what I have DOES work for me. That might change next summer when I start putting a lot more miles on the bike, but for now, I like my one piece wonder.

I had a creative and just got an ipod a few months ago. I definitely liked the creative better, but I switched from a disc drive to a flash drive. Lost a lot of memory capacity unfortunately and a lot of songs I didn't have backed up because I had my disc drive crap out on me, partly due to heavy usage and partly due to vibration of the disc. I probably will never buy another iPod, they are too proud of their accessories and want too much for them and make you buy a FM receiver. That didn't bother me too much because I hate radio.

The chocolate is Verizon's newest...I looked at the saleman's Sunday when I bought a new phone. It was coming out/came out on Monday. The face plate slides up and down instead of flipping. It has the camera, mp3 and all that. I went with the LG vx8300...It has 3mp camera with resolution adjustment from 160 X 120 to 1280 X 960, and the flip front has controls for built in Vcast music and video downloads. It has a memory card that slips in the side that I can store pics and then use a USB dock and download to computer...I don't have to subscribe to internet service to download and save pics...It also has a record FLIX option to record video with sound from the camera to the card. I did pretty good for an old, fat guy who still uses Floppys and Zip drives...

Totally sweet... Totally pissed I just got the Samsung a930 a month before this thing came out... It's not MP3, it's Windows Media... Basically Media Player 10 converts the songs into a different format while downloading the songs from your PC to your phone... You will need drivers for your PC and Media Player to recognize the phone as a usable media device... Verizon scams you into buying the VCast Music Pack to get these drivers... at least for my Samsung they did... On my a930 I can convert and download 1GB worth of music (approximately 250 songs) in about an hour... Timely, yes... however I have had it for a month, use the MP3 capability frequently... and am yet to hear the same song twice... As far as complaints about the picture quality of camera phones... Stay tuned... they are quickly becoming competitive with digital cameras... My phone has a 1.33 megapixel camera... crap by today's standard, but my first digital camera was a 1.33MP Olympus I paid $500 for 8 years ago... Phones within the next year or two will have 3+ megapixel cameras pretty standard... and once you hit 5MP you have quality rivaling film... In two or three years those will become the standard. I also saw mention of ruining your battery by constant charging mentioned somewhere in this thread... not so true anymore. Granted, all rechargable batteries have a general life expectancy in cycles, but for the most part we are talking thousands of charges... By the time you ruin your battery you will probably want a new phone anyway. Also it is important to note that memory effect has gone by the wayside as NiCad and NiMH technology has given way to more durable, higher capacity, and much lighter lithium ion batteries... Back to the delicious LG Chocolate in question... I will be happy with my phone for a while and I find comfort in the fact that in two years when Verizon replaces it for me, I will have something that makes the Choco look like a total turd...
