Hey Boys and Girls, School starts today in Tally... So just a reminder to watch out for kids, buses and distracted drivers... Watch your Speed! The minimum fine for speeding in a school zone in Tally is $ 537.00 :yikes: I saw 3 pulled over on my way in this morning... So wherever you live...watch out! I'll bet there is a handsome fine in your neighborhood too...

most of the shools here are year round. but some did start a week ago. i usually am gone before thet get up though. I think schools should run year round... I even thought that while I was in school... Kids forget everything in those three months off, then teachers play catch-up for the first month or so... While I was in school that always drove me insane... I remember most of the stuff, but was forced to sit through reteachings... Lame. Not to :jacked: this thread any further... Most schools start tomorrow 'round here...

i would never wish that on my child. not while im not a teacher. the education system in this country is sooooo screwed up, they need a break. i know i needed it. Need a break? From what? School was so ridiculously easy and boring... and my school was supposedly very good... My point is that kids would be more prepared for life and would get a much better education if there weren't meaningless breaks from school for the summer months. What purpose does that serve? All I see coming out of summer breaks are childcare expenses increasing, unattended children, and time to forget all those things that were learned throughout the school year... I am currently working on my second college degree... First time around and this time I go year round... I get done faster, I retain more of what I learned, and it's overall not a much of a burdon... THE FOLLOWING IS A GENERAL RANT - THIS IS NOT DIRECTED AT ANYONE SPECIFICALLY Part of the reason I think school systems are so jacked is because of the parents. I know multiple teachers and school administrators in different, but all highly recognized, school districts. They say it's impossible to discipline many of the children, not to mention actually teach them anything... Parents either don't care or blame everything on everyone other than their brat kid... Not to mention a lot of parents are so self-absorbed that they don't know their kid is flunking out of school, don't care to help them with their studies, and/or have absolutely no ability to discipline the kids... too busy trying to be their best friend... That is not to say there are not horribly incompetent school districts, administrators, and teachers adding to the problem... Not to mention the media and various advocacy groups making excuses for lackluster test scores... How in the hell can a history, math, science, or any other type of question based in fact (or publically documented information) be 'culturally biased'? Make an effort not an excuse...

How many children do YOU have in the public school system there psycho??? I don't think you know what you are talking about...I am coming from 2 generations...after raising and then finding my 25 year-old dead in his bed...I now have a 3rd grader and the one in kindergarden who can claim Gov. Jeb Bush as her personal friend... So...tell me about yours...

Considering the fact that I am a product of the public school system solidifies my credibility... After your initial couple sentences I got kind of lost, but that is moot at this point anyway... Obviously I struck a nerve and I apologize for offending you (or anyone else reading this who may have taken offense)... That was surely not my intent. Understand that I am not saying you, or anyone else around here is a good or bad parent... I am not addressing anyone particularly, just making blanket comments about what I have experienced and witnessed. Everywhere I go I see out of control children running amok and parents who make excuses for their lack of control... Undoubtedly parenting is EXTREMELY difficult, I for one was a royal pain in the turdcutter, but never out of control... Again, my comments were not directed at anyone in particular and not made in an effort to discount the rigors of parenting in any manner...

Oh, But yes it does...unless you are currently involved in today's public school system, your info is dated and you are talking through your hat... B, was born in 1979, I saw him start public school in 1985...he graduated from high school in 1998...with honors...I did the whole program with him... PTA and everything...I had daughter # 1 in 1997 and daughter # 2, 3 years later... On february 5, 2003 at 3:30 in the afternoon, I found B, when he was a Junior in college...dead in his bed... So, until you have children, and get a first-hand, and up close/involved look at the public school system...you are only spouting idiot wind...blowin' every time you move your teeth...

So, until you have children, and get a first-hand, and up close/involved look at the public school system...you are only spouting idiot wind...blowin' every time you move your teeth... I cannot begin to imagine your loss, and would not begin to insult you by attempting to do so... However, I do not know what this has to do with the public school system. I graduated in 1998... I remember getting into trouble with fellow classmates and overhearing the parental conferences... On one side you have my folks just waiting to get out of there to bust my rear... and on the other you have another set of parents blaming me and everyone else for what their kid did... or worse, denying that their kid would even be a part of any such offenses... I remember some of my friends who's parents let them do anything... Tyler's mom was buying him smokes when he was 14, Joe's dad bought us beer at 15, and Justin's parents let his girlfriend MOVE IN at 16... These guys got suspended from school for fighting, smoking, or general disrespect and they got a 3-5 day vacation... I got a couple fresh ones and enough chores so that I didn't have to be grounded... I didn't have time to leave... My ex-girlfriend went to a public inner city school graduating in '01... Much of the same, only much worse... The main difference being the teachers were incompetent and didn't care... Unfortunately the majority of the parents did not seem to care either... She told me a story about her friend getting attacked at school, attempted rape... and her having to walk a couple miles home because her parents would not come to get her... Look, I am not saying the public school system is a shining example of perfection, but I do beleive that a lot of times it gets blamed for more than it should be held accountable for... That being said, I beleive this has gotten completely out of hand and needs to be ended... I have a tendency to opine in ways that inflame others and that is something that I obviously will need to continue to work on. Although I stand behind my analisys, I apologize again for offending you.

I have to agree with you somewhat on this subject too. I too fell that kids should go to school year round, but instead of no vacations, they need to break up the 2 1/2 months they have off into the entire year. That way they dont get flustered by the middle of the year and they also dont forget as much during the summer breaks. As on the other subject of parenting, I feel the same way that parents should take more responsibility towards their kids actions and help guide them through life. And before anyone starts, no I dont have children but I feel this way from seeing friends and family go through it with their kids. I like my toys and freedom too much right now to have children, but I know eventually it will happen because they are so damn cute.
