I can see why with Ray Nagin and the Chocolate City, but not everyone is like that. justpucky 08-26-2006, 01:40 PM It could straighten out and nail Texas again... give it another 36 hours and check the projection. Rae 08-26-2006, 05:26 PM do ya gotta remind us?? I live in the panhandle of Florida, we are always in the projected path, and EVERY YEAR this happens on my B-day...:nonod: i have a ride planned to ATL this weekend!!:cursin: OneSickPsycho 08-26-2006, 06:08 PM If I lived in the Gulf... or hell anywhere on any coast... Only tourist traffic.... Not residents. They said typically they won't evacuate residents unless it's a Cat 3 or greater. ShanMan14 08-28-2006, 09:12 AM What Part?
Orlando. However, it appears cancelled now. :idk: DLIT 08-28-2006, 09:25 AM So that hit this past weekend, or it's gonna hit this week/end? marko138 08-28-2006, 09:27 AM So that hit this past weekend, or it's gonna hit this week/end?

Oh. Did anyone catch that article in Popular Science about what they are doing to stop TS's, hurricanes and all that? it was interesting. they had a cargo plane loaded with these water absorbing materials and to test it out, they dropped it over a thunder storm and it rapidly died down, because all the moisture was removed. So it worked on that, but scientists are still skeptical about it working on a hurricane or something. Interesting though. OneSickPsycho 08-28-2006, 11:42 AM Ya know... One would think that with all the hurricanes in the past few years that Florida realestate would be much cheaper by now... I guess I will just have to keep waiting...:tt: bumblebee 08-28-2006, 11:58 AM Ya know... I wish!! My real estate taxes doubled this year...they claim the assessed value of my house doubled...so they doubled my taxes...Might have to sell it to see if it is true... justpucky 08-28-2006, 12:06 PM Hmmm. maybe the assesed value doubled becuase your house was still standing, and replacement values are so hight due to the rebuilding in the Louisiana? OneSickPsycho 08-28-2006, 12:10 PM He' over cuba now.
Someone said, "god hates Lousiana." No, god HATES Cuba... Every tropical storm/hurricane hits Cuba first... I mean EVERY ONE OF THEM... OneSickPsycho 08-28-2006, 12:15 PM I wish!! Well, if your house really doubled in value, then you'll still be making out if you do have to sell... Relocating SUCKS!
You know what gets me... when you see these people 3 hurricanes into the season making a mad dash to Lowes to get plywood to board up their windows... hitting the grocery store for tons of water and canned foods... I mean, do these people have more money than sense? I would have plywood pre-cut, numbered to correspond with each window, and ready to go stacked up in the garage... right along side 20 cases of water and a couple weeks worth of canned goods.. What does everyone do after a hurricane, take off the plywood and throw it all away?:bonk: Rae 08-28-2006, 12:24 PM Well, if your house really doubled in value, then you'll still be making out if you do have to sell... not the smart people, they store it for the next season...ppl where I am often leave the boards up till the season is over, it looks kinda rough, but it saves trying to do it every time a storm rolls in, but I am less than 10 miles from the gulf...as for supplies, i have my storage bin full of the things I need and a generator...the storms just dont freak me out...and I wouldnt be caught dead at walmart when they make the rush on bottled water and bread!! Rae 08-28-2006, 12:25 PM I wish!! do you have yours homesteaded?? over here i think the max increase is like 3%...my value doubled as well but the taxes only went up a little bit...my INSURANCE on the other hand is now insane, it doubled! neebelung 08-28-2006, 12:42 PM Ya know... Mudslides, earthquakes and brushfires haven't kept California real estate cheap, so what's a lil wind and rain to live on the coast in Florida? bumblebee 08-28-2006, 12:57 PM not the smart people, they store it for the next season...ppl where I am often leave the boards up till the season is over, it looks kinda rough, but it saves trying to do it every time a storm rolls in, but I am less than 10 miles from the gulf...as for supplies, i have my storage bin full of the things I need and a generator...the storms just dont freak me out...and I wouldnt be caught dead at walmart when they make the rush on bottled water and bread!!
I am about 16 miles north of St. Marks...I have a well...so my generator runs water and lights...We have supply of cans and I keep a couple of cases of MRE's "group" meals that are supposed to feed 6 on hand...
My insurance went up $400.00 this year from last...they too claim it was increased value of house...I asked my agent if I would get a refund if I sold it for less...he said "No" OneSickPsycho 08-29-2006, 02:08 AM Mudslides, earthquakes and brushfires haven't kept California real estate cheap, so what's a lil wind and rain to live on the coast in Florida?
Yeah, but you couldn't pay me enough to live in California... Forget the mudslides, earthquakes, fires, etc... The inherent amount of pretentiousness and the horrible economy are enough to keep me out... Gas Man 08-29-2006, 08:10 AM I was teasing my buddy that this is named after him... his name is Ernesto and he's from Peru! neebelung 08-29-2006, 08:56 AM ... Sadly, quite true.
I was born and raised in what WAS once a hippie town (Laguna Beach, CA), full of artists and surfers, and home to 3 of the more incredible local art festivals in the region. It was the epitome of low-key.
Now? It's the height of superficiality and materialism. I was just out there last week (visiting family, following the passing of my Gramma, who's lived in that town for the last 35 years), and was absolutely ASTOUNDED by how much it's changed. Sure, there are still little pockets of the old, quaint beach community that once was, but little by little those are shrinking. The bungalows on the cliffs are being leveled and replaced by pseudo Mediterranean mansions, and the 'average' 14 year old girl looks like a Paris Hilton clone. :skep:
Sadly, this 'evolution' of that part of Orange County has been happening gradually over the last 10 years, and has only been exacerbated by shows like "The O.C." and "Laguna Beach." What used to be a weekend retreat for middle class folks who lived in L.A. and Pasadena during the week is now the latest Hollywood hotspot. *eyeroll*
