Well, I'm completely new to the site and to sportbikes so far. A little bit about me: 5' 8'' i love cars i love motorcycles and i used to BMX I'm on here to get help on everything from the bike I should get, to insurance estimates, tips, tricks, and gaining a few buddies. The bike I'm looking at getting would be a Yamaha R6 or a Kawasaki Ninja. (I want to start out with a 600 and then withen a year or two move up to a 1000) I have an Icon Jacket and as far as my helmet goes, its about two years old but a bit beaten up. (I've gotten a bit mad at the race track and the motocross track and tossed around a bit ALONG with being clumsy and dropping it or watching people accidentally nock it off the bike I was riding for a little bit with a friend) as far as cars go, i love mine. in a little bit i'll be doing an auto to many swap just for kicks... so theres me, if anyone knows of someone who might be getting rid of an 06 or 05 R6 withen the next year, let me know.. other than that... HELLO!!!! :dthumb:

First off, Welcome :twfrox: Secondly, I would suggest you get a new helmet. You mentioned you used your old one at the motorcross track. Not the same kind of helmet, you need a full face street helmet. You alo mentioned that you dropped it a few times, in which case you need to get a new one anyway.

So did you ride dirt bikes or just BMX? Either way take the MSF course. Definitely get a new helmet designed for street.

:iagree: and :welcome: Most defininitely invest in a new helmet -- it's your brain, so protect it!! Also, look into some good riding gloves, and boots. When budgeting to buy your new bike, you want to also plan on spending between $500 and $1000 on gear (and it's like potato chips.... you can't stop at just one! Buying gear becomes an addiction!). As for your bike choices, depending on just how long you've been riding dirt, a new 600cc bike might be a bit much to start on. Everyone has differing opinions on what's an 'okay' starter bike, but the general consensus is that the "R" bikes (ZX6R, R6, CBR600RR, GSXR) are a bit agressive for beginners. If you're set on starting with a 600cc bike (rather than a 250 or a 500), you might want to consider something a bit tamer, like a Ninja ZX650, or an SV650 (EXCELLENT all around bike.... especially if you think you'll ever want to do track days). Luckily, you've got height to your advantage (as do I), so seat heights won't be an issue... I'm 5'8" as well, and I can either nearly or totally flatfoot on most any streetbike when I'm wearing riding boots. And last but not least, DO take your MSF class... it's the best investment you can make toward becoming a safe and responsible rider. Good luck!!!! And enjoy!

Welcome and i bet you never come back. Anywho, welcome. You might consider not rushing your move up to a liter. The definition for moving from a good starter bike (and R6 and 636s do not fit into that category, IMO) up to the next level, etc., should be defined by your experience, not the calendar. Given that you can't ride for at least three months of the year, setting some date as your graduation date is folly. But perhaps I'm the only one here who seems to think so.

why are you guys so negative and jumping to conclusions? it's been less than 24 hours since she posted... some people only check e-mail and forums every 2-3 days. Sit tight and see. And anyway she logged off around midnight, we might never see her during the day anyway.

welcome. I'm kinda new here too. I'm also a new rider. I've only been riding for 3mo. Never rode a bike before. My first bike is a 2006 R6. I think it's great, but then yet, I can't compare it to anything else. My friend was telling me to start off with a 250 but I felt like I would out grow it quick and that is why I went with the 600. I guess the R6 might be aggressive but I'm sure you will get the hang of it, I still get nervous but I'm still learning. I wanted to buy a used bike to start with but I think they were pricey and I wouldn't know how they were handled or maintained. I decided to spend the extra cash and start off with a new bike. Now I know how it is maintained (well) and how many times it's been dropped (twice). Never had gear so everything I have is new but I have been told that if you drop the helmet you need to replace it. I don't know if this is true or not but I've also been told that helmets are only good for two or three years. Good luck.

Told ya, shes not commin back haha.If a store cashier gave you your change and then said, "Well, I'm sure we'll never be seeing you again" does that leave the air of friendliness and optimism or perhaps a degree of despondency and pessimism? The business world is full of social science lessons. And besides all that, the point of forums is learning and exchange of information (for me, anyway). If someone comes only once or is a lifelong member, the purpose has been fulfilled in either case if they got something out of it. If you've got some wisdom and want to pass it on, do so :2cents:
