I've been lurking around here for a while and figured it was time to formally introduce myself and my bike. After years of procrastination (and my gf's/parent's wishes), I finally enrolled and completed the MSF course this season (don't remember the scores off-hand). My intent was to get an 2003 R6 Flame Edition but quickly realized, through reading this forum :twfrox: and taking the MSF class, that an R6 is waaay too much bike for me. Shoot, from what I've been reading, any 600cc bike isn't for me. Against my own wishes I went out and found a 2003 EX500 with 2300 miles for $2500. It suffered a slow-speed drop but only the fairings were damaged (nothing major). Two of my friends that took the course around the same time as me went out and bought new 06 Yamaha YZF-600r's :cursin:. Scared that the "biker community" and my friends would shun me for riding a 500cc bike, I bought it anyway and couldn't be happier. It's definitely enough bike for me right now. I ride is daily and have put about 200 miles on it so far (damn rain). Bike: 2003 Kawa EX500 http://home.comcast.net/~oswald_k/images/03ninja/right.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~oswald_k/images/03ninja/left_rear.jpg A couple more pics can be found @ http://home.comcast.net/~oswald_k/autos.html Gear: Scorpion EXO-700 Crackhead (Silver) - $225 http://www.extremesupply.com/images/scorpion/EXO700Crackhead/xl/EXO700CrackheadSilver.jpg Joe Rocket Reactor 2.0 (Black) - $108 http://www.newenough.com/product_pictures/j/joe_rocket_reactor_2point0_jacket/black_front.jpg Joe Rocket SuperMoto Gloves (Black) - $50 http://www.newenough.com/product_pictures/j/joe_rocket_supermoto_gloves/black.jpg -Kevin Completely off-topic... For those that have Scorpion helmets. What faceshield(s) comes with the helmet? I thought it was just a clear one, so I purchased a dark smoke shield the same time I ordered my helmet. Got the helmet, opened the box, and there was a clear, smoke, and the dark smoke shield in the box. I'm guessing it was an packing error... just wondering...

Nice... I figured that I was just lucky. The smoke shield was at the bottom of the box (practically under the helmet) and the dark smoke was on top. Guess someone wasn't paying attention. Oh well... I'm located in Glen Burnie, Maryland (just outside of Baltimore). I'm debating on mods. Nothing major... just chopping the fender, new dark smoke windshield, and front/rear flush mounts. Maybe that will be a winter project :idk: -Kevin

It was probably a packing error. The dealer probably ordered that stuff and the supplier put it in one box. The dealers loss your gain.

:welcome: Good move with the bike and the MSF course. That course helps a lot of people. Your bike is pretty sharp looking, so I wouldn't worry about what anyone thinks. I've been riding my friends purple YZF all summer with a yellow helmet, whatever. I've been looking to buy a cheap, used bike that's been lightly dropped, too. Good way to go for a first bike.:luck:

Nice bike... I got one and they are great... From the looks of it, you got a good deal on it... Kudos for telling the squid community where to go and getting a bike that is good to learn on. Rep pts. awarded and well deserved.

Good choice on the EX500. I absolutely LOVE mine, even though it isnt a 600. sure its not the fastest off the line, or at the top end, but who cares right? it'll carve corners up like a chainsaw through wood. only people who'll give you any major crap, are the harley nuts that swear harley is the only brand on the earth worth owning.

Props for the wise first bike choice. My first ride was a BMW F650GSA. (It's a single.) My Scorpion Rivet only came with the clear shield, so good score on the helmet visors too. :dthumb:
