Need4Speed 10-17-2004, 10:58 AM check out this thread for some great info on gloves..

many of ur manufacturers of gloves make them in several different colors..but remember, black goes with everything. GSXR1000DJ 10-17-2004, 11:06 AM Nice thread that Matt showed you. However, the best way to get the gloves right for you is to go and try some on. You need them to feel right for you. We all are going to have an opinion on what we like best but what you are going to like may not be the same as we like. Try some on and let us know what you get.
And welcome to TWF. Glad you signed up. :dthumb: duma 10-17-2004, 11:20 AM i have tried some at a bike's shop, but they have limited amount of gloves. I have tried on some joe rocket, alpine star, icon (i dont know the specific name). the joe rocket feels really good, but the color and looks didnt catch my eyes. the alpine star feels really good too, but they didnt have size small and i didnt wanna order one. The icon materials just didnt look right to me. I just went to that website speedrag.com and saw that the stunter X are nice... but i dont think my bike shop (near my house) has them. I dont wanna order online bcuz i dont wanna wait and if the size doesnt fit me, that gonna takes longer to exchange. Hmmm, most of the gloves are available online, but i just dont want to bcuz i have had a bad experience of ordering a pair of gloves online...and i had to wait like 1 month for everything to be resolved. Need4Speed 10-17-2004, 11:23 AM its hard to order gloves online unless u know ur exact size...if you have any friends who have gloves that you like, try their's on, and u'll get an idea of what fits and what doesnt...but all manufacs make a rainbow of colors..the rockets that DJ got, came in black, blue, red, and gray, and that was just at the shop we went to. GSXR1000DJ 10-17-2004, 11:37 AM I understand as well about the buying online. It is hard to know if its going to be the right thing or not. As Matt said, try on one of your friends gloves and go from there. You said you were looking for a pair with blk and red in it. here are 2 that are in that color and are joe rocket. I have the blue and blk ones and love them. pickle.of.doom 10-17-2004, 03:46 PM Try to make sure to get Gauntlet style if you can ( the kind that go well over the wrist) and wear your jacket when you try them on, make sure you sleeves fit tucked into the gloves. Need4Speed 10-17-2004, 03:54 PM if you can swing it, its really good to get both styles of gloves, the gauntlet style offer excellent protection, but for everyday city riding, and in warmer weather these work great as well.

Be very careful when choosing gloves. I'm an XL in Joe Rocket but XXL in Alpinestar. If you can, try em on first. If not, order a couple sizes online and send back the ones that don't fit. pickle.of.doom 10-18-2004, 12:15 PM If you can hold out, find out when the CW motorcycle show is in your area this year... sure its nice to go look at all the bikes available, but the real nice part is you can try on just about every piece of gear available to motorcyclists... bumblebee 10-18-2004, 12:59 PM i want to choose a pair of gloves that has red and black color in it, maybe a little bit of white would be nice, comfort and leathered, and look cool. does any1 has one or know 1?
Before you worry about cool or color, remember what they are for! If you go down, you want all your appendages protected. Find the pair that fit you the best that will protect fingers, hand and wrist. Worry about poser issues like color or having a cool name later GSXR1000DJ 10-18-2004, 01:30 PM Before you worry about cool or color, remember what they are for! I second that one. :dthumb: Good thinking. Gas Man 10-18-2004, 01:35 PM Very true! But I strongly recommend against buying anything that you haven't tried on. I have did it in the past and got lucky but it's not a good idea!! beanz 10-18-2004, 02:39 PM get the most high-end glove that you could afford

I'm using my butt when I crash to help me. LOL That may make me bounce a bit. :dthumb: duma 10-18-2004, 07:10 PM ordering a couple of pairs and return the ones that dont fit sound like a good idea, but doesnt it costs u money to return the shipping? hehehe... i just bought a pair of Frank Thomas Air Rage Glovesfor 130 bucks. It has a wrist protection, red, black, a little bit of silver color. i dont know if this brand is good, but the saler told me he is wearing a pair too. i duno how to post a pix up, so here is a link that has the pix of the gloves.... i still can return them if they're bad in recommendations (from yall :)) http://www.johnsofromford.co.uk/gloves.htm it's the first top left corner ones, it shows in blue, but i have mine in red. Need4Speed 10-18-2004, 07:20 PM ask and ye shall receive.. if they work for you, thats all that matters, most people have more than 1 one set anyways, so if u need them,u'll have them..but either way, that fact that you have gloves to wear to keep ur hands intact, is the main part.

This is a stated thing I believe, not one from expierence. I wish Twisty was here to comment but my :2cents: will have to do.
When I went down with the deer thing! I was thrown, and rolled and 3 things happened.
1. My head/helmet never touched the ground.
2. My elbows & forearms touched the ground but only barely.
3. It didn't suck as much I you would think!
:2cents: Need4Speed 10-18-2004, 08:49 PM when u wreck, u consciously/subconsciously, try to keep ur head up from the ground, its a knee jerk reaction..so I can see how you could have gone down and ended up like that. :o duma 10-18-2004, 09:17 PM yall r cool, yall reply fast, im like so bz until night time haha Gas Man 10-18-2004, 10:06 PM when u wreck, u consciously/subconsciously, try to keep ur head up from the ground, its a knee jerk reaction..so I can see how you could have gone down and ended up like that. :o

I don't know about you Gas Man. :D :dthumb: Gas Man 10-18-2004, 11:56 PM Hey, I had a little Beavis and Butthead moment!!! Need4Speed 10-19-2004, 02:05 AM Hey, I had a little Beavis and Butthead moment!!!
a little one!! ?? Gas Man 10-19-2004, 04:02 PM OK, somebody passed this photo along to me to prove my point that you really aren't going to pur your hands down that much.
It looks like Zemki is trying to "stop" himself with his hands NOT! Notice the hand position in this picture. But of coarse, what would a pro like Zemki know anyways? :skep:
:2cents: :sorry: Need4Speed 10-19-2004, 04:10 PM yeah, but dont u think it depends on what type of fall ur having...I agree that wouldnt totally try and stop with ur hands, but wouldnt u atleast try and put them down to aid in a roll, depending on the situation, lessen the initial impact.? Gas Man 10-19-2004, 04:12 PM Oh, yeah, you'll use them to keep from rolling but you won't use them to slow down. You'll use your elbows for that.
It is just a matter of instinc not what you "think" you want! Need4Speed 10-19-2004, 04:15 PM Oh, yeah, you'll use them to keep from rolling but you won't use them to slow down. You'll use your elbows for that.

ok, now were clear on this...thanks ! BTW, if this ever happens to me again, knock on wood, and my instincts arent the same as urs, ur gonna get it! No Worries 10-19-2004, 09:10 PM I can't look for the article now, but several years ago, Motorcycle Consumer News tested gloves for abrasion. I was in a hardware store and tried on some gloves made from elk. They felt terrific and I wear them all the time for riding. ;) GSXR1000DJ 10-19-2004, 09:55 PM I can't look for the article now, but several years ago, Motorcycle Consumer News tested gloves for abrasion. Really. Kangaroo was the strongest, with elkskin skin second. And here I am riding around with a little cows butt on my hands for protection. I never heard of the Kangaroo skin being used. other parts of the world are alot smarter and more resourceful with this stuff, then us.. Captain Morgan 10-20-2004, 12:47 AM Well, since you already bought gloves, this advice won't help you, but maybe it will help others. When trying on gloves, ALWAYS sit on a bike and see how the gloves fit with your hands around the grips. Gloves actually get tighter as you wrap your fingers around the grip. How do I know? Because I bought a pair of Joe Rocket gloves online after trying a pair on in a store. Unfortunately, I didn't try them on properly. Put on the new gloves that came from online (cheaper than store) and the felt good. Took the tags off and went for a ride a few days later. I should have bought a larger size, because they were too tight when riding. Couldn't return the gloves because tags were removed and I waited too long to wear them while riding. So now I have a $50 pair of gloves that don't fit and a $70 pair that does. duma 10-20-2004, 01:41 AM oh yea, i was being aware of that bcuz i have had an experience buying gloves online b4. so yea it took me like 45 mins of choosing gloves in the bike shop and i wore da gloves over n over many times that even the salers looked at me... probly thinking that i just wanna try it on at the store n then go home n do an online purchase. thx for putting that though! Need4Speed 10-20-2004, 01:44 AM helps if u can break the gloves in too after you get em, before you ride. after I picked up my latest pair, i wore them around the house, making a fist and tyring to stretch them so they'd conform more to my hand...after a short time of doing that, they fit just right now, | |
