Hey, I am new to this forum. I am also new when it comes to bikes. I had a question for the experienced guys out there. I wanted a gixxer 600, but one of my buddies talked me out of it. I ended up buying a 1995 katana 600. Is that too much of a bike for me? It only had 5k miles and I got it for $1300 so I couldnt pass it up. If it's too much of a bike for me I will sell it and get something else; if it is ok for me to learn on, if I dump it, it is not too much money. I am taking a MSF course next week and I will not ride the katana until I pass the MSF course.
Thanks for all of your help!

600 Kats are great bikes to learn on...I had two of them before stepping up to a bigger bike.

:iagree: Your friend was wise to talk you out of the Gixxer 600 for a first bike. Take your MSF class, and ride the HECK out of this bike for a year or so, then once you've got some good seat time under your belt, you can look into something newer.
Enjoy! And :welcome:

the gixxer is like a ferrari for a first car, katana is more like a beretta. its still fast enough to hurt ya, so make sure you buy some gear like a helmet and a good jacket for your own safety.

Welcome to the forum. I had a kat 600 (forget the year). You will outgrow the bike after a year riding. But the price is right. When it's time to upgrade, look around for used track bikes.

Good choice for a first bike. The 250 or 500 probably would have been a better choice tho. If you keep a level head and ride within your limits. You should be fine. Glad to hear your taking the MSF class. Lots to learn there and you'll be glad you did.

:withstupi all of them above me... great choice... ride it, take it easy, learn, when you think you are getting board.. mod it in someway... wait at least 1 year or 5,000 miles after the bordum then look into upgrading!
