apexiknights2001 10-28-2006, 11:11 PM i have a small prob. ive been riding for about 4 years and i havnt been much for the stunting sceen, im more of a drag racer, never had the urge really to wheelie but about a month ago i did, i know the fundamentals on how to do it but when i try to power wheelie in first at about 7k the bike comes off the ground about 4 inches... would a smoked tire cause this? ive had queit a few trips to the track on it and its seen better days.....

What kind of bike is it? Your tire my have a little to do with it, but it should still come up.
There are tons of posts on this topic, do a search and you should find most everything you need to know about doing a wheelie.:dthumb:
Anthony 11-09-2006, 10:19 PM give specs and i can prolly help you out but you might during the stunt always a risk
jeeps84 11-13-2006, 11:09 PM Amount of tread on tire has little to do with traction. Compound and temp does.
YZFR61ST 11-13-2006, 11:13 PM hey man just google it google video you'll find it there....:bonk: :bonk:
doesn't Air pressure have someting to do with it also?
99birdv6 11-14-2006, 03:19 PM This is waht you need to do to bring that front end up.
1.Be at a standstill in 1st gear.
2. Pull in the clutch.
3. Peg the throttle wide open
4. Release clutch
Trust me, it will come up. :yikes:
SMFB636 11-14-2006, 05:59 PM if ur at stand still and try to do that you'll end up looping it out and get all kinds of messed up...i tried it between 20 and 25 and dumped it and almost looped it....

I know. It was a joke.
LRMzx636 11-17-2006, 01:42 PM Seriously, that bike will wheelie without a problem. DO NOT attempt a clutch wheelie in 1st gear. Please. In FIRST gear travel about 30mph steady on the throttle, for most bikes this is around 6-8k RPM... close the throttle and open full... maintain full throttle and the wheel will come up.
MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER. IF YOU DO NOT REMEMBER TO DO ANYTHING ELSE*******COVER THE REAR BRAKE******
with your right foot, the rear brake will bring the bike down straight. Never chop the throttle to bring the wheel down = recipe for disaster.
In 2nd gear... travel about 8k RPM. Hold the clutch with 1 or 2 fingers, whichever is more comfortable, and ease it in , rev the bike, and ease it out. It will take SEVERAL attempts to get used to how the bike feels coming off the clutch while moving. on my 636 I rev to about 12k and ease it out in a standup wheelie. on a sit down wheelie I prefer to "pop" the clutch in 2nd gear.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PRACTICE THIS ALONE.
LRMzx636 11-17-2006, 09:19 PM I wrote a long post to this thread and its not here, damnit...

LRMzx636 11-19-2006, 09:25 PM LOL. well my post did show up! It just took a vacation before hand.
Yeah... I have seen quite a few people post up about begginer wheelies...
1. stay in 1st gear
2. pull in clutch
3. rev bike to 13k
4. let clutch out
they always leave out step 5...
5. You die...
lol
Seriously... learn 1st gear power wheelies... sitdown position...
Then move to 2nd gear sit down clutch wheelies
Then move to 2nd gear stand up clutch wheelies
Then move to 1st gear stand up clutch wheelies.
I have been riding over 2 years now and not once I have I hit pavement from stunting. Came close a few times but always saved it.
tburda 12-15-2006, 06:27 PM first wheelie i ever did was on a buddies zx6, did a 2nd gear clutch up wheelie, i have a 05 katana...and thought it wouldnt wheelie..with enough practice, and understanding of YOUR bike, you will get the hang of it. if i can get a STOCK katana 600 to come up..you can get any bike up. i got the kat up HIGH too....high enough to balance point, but it wont power up, only clutch up in first, so i havent been able to hold it at bp yet because it comes up so fast. keep practicing, and BE CAREFUL. power wheelies are ALOT smoother, i've powerd up my gixxer (in the 6 miles i've rode it since i got it) and it was cake compared to getting that 500 lb kat up. as others have said, learn sit down power wheelie in first, you have the most control that way, one day you can move to stand up 1st gear power wheelies, and then up to 2nd gear higher speed power wheelies etc.... just dont take it too fast. if it scares you, go back a step. never push forward until you're as comfortable in a wheelie as you are down on two. i have done one stand up on the kat, and it came up so fast and so far i almost had to go home and change my shorts.
OH! btw..

hbboy 01-02-2007, 09:41 PM be carefully and clutch it just cover rear brake
rockinthef4i 02-26-2007, 10:39 AM I used to have the same problem with wheelies. When you try to power it up, make sure that you're between 6-8k rpms. In first ease on up to that range and once you get to about 5-6k hit you're throttle to make the front end come up(as in when you gun it and the ass end sits down cuz it's under power.) Once the front end comes up, let off of the throttle for a sec and then gun it again. You're front end should come up smoothly and then just ride it at the height you feel comfortable with. You'll have to play around with it for a little bit to find out exactly where you need to power it up at. Also to make the bike come up easier sit as far back on your seat as you can. The more weight you put on you rear tire, the less weight will be on your front end and thus the easier the bike will come up.
