Knight 11-01-2006, 03:13 PM Hey Shan, (and maybe highly informed mods)
I found this:
At the top right of every post you will see a new icon which allows you to provide reputation for that user's post. Clicking the icon allows you to post a comment and state whether you approve or disapprove. As long as you are a full user (i.e. you have 100 posts and have been a member for 90 days), this will then be publicly available for everyone to see and will appear directly underneath the post as a comment. A box titled "Comments on this post" will appear, with a list of users who agree/disagree.
All full users have a certain reputation power. This depends on the number of posts they have, the reputation they have received themselves and how long they have been a member etc. When you approve of a post, you increase the poster's reputation by the number of reputation points you have. If you disagree with their post, their reputation points will decrease by the number of reputation points you have.
If you are not yet a full user (i.e. you do not have 100 posts and have not been a member for 90 days) you do not have any reputation power. While you can still comment on posts, your comments will not be publicly available and you will not alter the poster's reputation points. The comments you make will only be visible to the poster in their user control panel.
Every time you agree or disagree with a post, your comment will appear in their user control panel. Each comment will either have a green icon (to show that the user agreed with your post), a red icon (to show that the user disagreed with your post) or a grey icon (where the user has no reputation power so is not a full member).
Everyone starts with 10 points and one green icon associated with their profile. As they gain (or lose) points, their total increases or decreases and the number of green icons next to their profile changes. The more green icons there are, the more the user is respected in the forum.
You can find out your current reputation level from your Control Panel. If you scroll to the bottom, you will see a "Latest Reputation Received" section, where you can find out your current reputation level and view the most recent comments posted about you.
I don't intend this to be another "bar" thread or rep whoring thread so feel free to lock it whenever you feel the valuable input has peaked.
Can you explain the rep system internals to those of us who are too slow to pick up on it ourselves?
1) How many reps can we give in 24 hrs?
2) How many reps must be "spread" before repping the same person again?
3) Does neg repping effect how many positive reps you can give in a day?
4) Are you admins/mods notified when someone gives/gets neg reps?
5) How much power do you have over this system, can you alter the limiter, remove reps, etc? I'm guessing yes but what don't I know about it?
6) Is the neg rep system identical to the positive one or are there differences?
Ok, so this may be a bit involved but...
7) At the various levels how many rep points are given, for example my reps seem to be worth fewer points than Marko's? What is the ratio? and how exactly does post count influence all of this?
Thanks, oh and I'll be repping you if you reply to this  (once the limiter lets me :idk: )

I've never seen this on ANY thread. Is this something that was in the works, but never completed? Or am I just blind?

Most of that info is already known.... but allow me to try to answer everything else....
1) 10
2) 5
3) Neg & Pos reps all count the same
4) No mods/admins are not aware when anybody gets any type of reps. That would be like us finding out when you post.
5) We have power over many of the guidlines but are :skep: to do much. Could you imagine how many reps Marko would have if we didn't limit everybody.
6) The reps regardless of -/+ are all part of the same thing... no differences.
7) This gets detailed...
It appears that admins and maybe mods have more Rep Power. A standard member has a rep power of 1. For every 1 rep it gives 1 point. If a admin gives you rep you get 10 points.
Further... for every year you are here your reps go up a point. So a newbie with 55 posts here for a month gives you 1 pt. I have been here for like 3 so I give 3 pts with every rep.
More... every 10,000 posts you get another 1 pt.
For every 100 pts from reps you get another 1 pt.
So Marko and I by the means of reps for Marko and posts by me... our reps are worth alot! But I think the higher repped people carry the most weight!

:iagree: The more points you HAVE, the more your rep is worth to someone else.
bumblebee 11-02-2006, 04:59 PM See...SEE...It is a gateway drug....First you get them to :whore: so they can build their RepWhore numbers and powers...:yikes:
It' all Bush's fault...

Knight 11-02-2006, 06:38 PM Thanks for the reply GM, you have been duly rep'd. Shan put up a pretty big post in a thread about this too!
Gas Man 11-02-2006, 09:21 PM Yeah but I think my answers were more direct to what you wanted to know... plus I'm catching up on my TWF'in!

True, your answers were more closely related to what I was asking, so extra thanks to you! :dthumb:
Glad to see you back around here today...does that mean the settling in is wrapping up and you're feeling better now?
Gas Man 11-02-2006, 10:40 PM Yeah a bit... things are getting there... its just ruff with the whole move. It was drawn out alot but I mean the moving itself went well... just broken up into sections...
You'll have to come over and see the house with furniture... but I guess sense you have already been here at all... plus the steak invitation to your place.... i guess your place is next....

This didn't get answered. However, I have discovered that if you click on the rep icon on YOUR own post, it will show you the reps that specific post received, if any.
BTW, Gas, thanks for the explanation on the other stuff. I'd rep ya, but I'm still at redline.
ShanMan14 11-04-2006, 04:27 PM THe info above is from another site and it doesn't 100% apply here. Since I created an FAQ for this I'm going to lock this thread.
