smileyman 11-09-2006, 08:43 AM WOW! A base model for $15000. That is just a little over what the old 748 s was. Granted the 1098 S will be $19000 and have some better spec but still that is a much better than the old bikes (998-999) pricing.
drewpy 11-09-2006, 09:43 AM i was disappointed it wasnt i4, but with that kinda starting price i think there will be a good number on the street

I will own one of these someday... I hope.
jarelj 11-10-2006, 11:14 PM Finally Ducati pulled out all the stops and made the bike that they were scared to turn loose on the public..... 160HP and 90 ft./lbs. of torque in bone stock form, and 381 lbs. Oh mama! And it's only $14,995! Did I mention is has REAL Brembo mono-bloc radial brake calipers right off the MotoGP bike..... and 330mm rotors..... and a full digital dash computer with telemetry readings you can download to your laptop to analyze your track sessions..... and Marchesini wheels.... the list goes on.... I think they new ad slogan should be "GSZX-WhateveRR1" ;)

jarelj 11-11-2006, 05:36 PM The base model is $14,995, and the "S" model is $19,995, which includes forged Marchesini wheels, Ohlins forks, Ohlins shock, Ohlins steering damper, and a few carbon fiber bits. There's also a "Tre Colore" version in red/white/green paint scheme that comes with a full race exhaust system for $24,995. This revolutionary motorcycle, which makes 160 horsepower and weighs 381 pounds will carry a manufacturers suggested retail price of $14,995. :iagree:
rlsedition 11-13-2006, 11:54 AM It would be more accurate to say the 675 reminds you of a 916, since the 916was introduced in 1994 and many of the world's motorcycle manufacturers have copied its look over the years, including the 675 (and Honda, and Yamaha).
Ducati was tired of being unique with the look of the 749/999, but selling few bikes to consumers. The 1098 should change all that for the better.
I, for one, am glad its not an I4. The V-twin is a better package, particularly for street usage. Mega-RPMs are for the track, not the street. Accessible torque rules on the street.

I can't wait until we get the 1098's in February. I got to see one in the flesh at the dealer meeting this past August, and it was a work of art. Pictures still don't do it justice, you'll have to see on in the showroom to really appreciate it. Federico Minoli, the president of Ducati in Italy, said at the dealer meeting that he personally directed the designers of the 1098 at Ducati Corse to make the 1098 the fastest production bike on the race track, and every detail of the bike was directed toward that goal. I hope the track tests of the bike verify it's ultimate awesomeness!! Personally, I'm sticking with my 749R for next year, but if I had the cash I'd definitely add a 1098S Tricolore to the garage!

dreadhead13 11-21-2006, 02:52 PM long story short im chosing this guy to replace my zx10.. ill trade mind numbing hp for some hearty helpings of torque.. gonna go to the dealer saturday to make n order n leave a deposit. gonna get the base model as im not the caliber rider to need ohlins suspension at the moment so pennies saved. in any event.. i wanna protect but i feel like its a shame to have to dremel the fairing to get some frame sliders going on.. what are your guys' opinions on that subject??
jarelj 11-21-2006, 09:20 PM There are under-bodywork frame sliders available that will protect the frame in a crash but not protect the bodywork as much, that's what a lot of the professional race teams use so they get the protection without having the look of sliders jutting out through the bodywork. If you do cut the bodywork, it's possible to make it look very professional if you take your time. We developed a technique that we use on lots of bikes where we cut the hole as tight as possible to fit around the slider and then use a rubber o-ring to finish off the look so there is no visible gap. I think it gives a very professional look, here's an example on a customer's 749 that we did:

That looks good, but in the event of a crash, the slider will flex and it will damage the fairing because of the tight fit. Possibly even crack it. Looks real good though.
