ShanMan14 07-11-2004, 09:14 AM A 953cc nekkid bike for $8499 list? Sounds appealing to me, I'm just not sure I like the stlying. It's certainly the popular direction of recent bike design, but I'm not sure if I like it. I DO Like the tail lights, nice touch.

Loose Sprocket 10-15-2004, 02:13 PM Funny you should ax that. I just bought one. In red. 'Cause red is faster.
Need4Speed 10-15-2004, 02:25 PM I think its a pretty sweet ride. Im not into the naked bikes as much, but its still pretty cool! Would look even better once they get rid of that shovel!
GSXR1000DJ 10-15-2004, 03:12 PM It looks alright but as Matt said it, I am not into the naked bikes as well. But everyone has there own choices.
Becca_007 10-15-2004, 04:53 PM That pic must be modded or somethign because I believe they come with a 4 into 2 exhaust... at least the 2003s did. I love the 2003 black with red touches that my step-dad has. He just bought it this summer and I was lucky enough to snag it one day for a ride. The seat would take some getting use to as I'm accustomed to my couch! That bike is what has me so excited about the Z750 though. Since I just learned to ride in July, I think the 750 will be plenty of power for to play around with.
Gas Man 10-16-2004, 12:56 AM No, I think that is a aftermarket exhaust...it definately has a name on the pipe.
I'm with you guys. I usually don't like the naked bikes. But that is pretty nice lookin. The tail light is from the 6RR and 636's. Just as is the entire tail section.
I really like the rims. The colored spokes with the alum. rings....very sweet lookin!! Plus the price!! Like DAMN!
What's the specs on it??????

That's more of what I was lookin for. But N4S' showed the dry weight that I also wanted to know.
The question is...Is the extra hp & less weight worth the extra $2k. :skep: to step up to the 10R?????
stevnmd 10-17-2004, 07:20 AM I love the styling of the Z1000. I think they're great looking...
They handle really nicely, and have MUCH better real-world ergos than a SS race replica bike... If you actually only ride on the street with a machine, I just don't see the attraction of SS bikes at all. It makes no sense to me...
Anyway, the only gripe people seem to have about the Z1000 is its slightly twitchy handling (that's partially do to the massive amount of leverage you get with a wide handlebar) and its so-so suspension. Typical Kawi suspension components...
Get one, send the forks off to Lindemann and have a field day!

Wet weight is just under 500 lbs.
Your question has no answer given the dichotomy of art and design spawned by the likes of machines such as the Z1000 and ZX-10R. The latter is not a step up from the former; it's a step over. The ZX-10R costs more because it's different.
One either wants a naked bike, or not.

Which one is for you? Ask your gut! :D

True, but on par with the bikes in the category in which it competes.

For the most part, yes...
It's hard to define what its direct competition is. Just naked street bikes? Then you could say it goes against the SV1000S and the FZ1.
Factory street fighters? Then it's against the Buells (I'd DEFINITELY take the Z1000 over a Firebolt or Lightning ANY day), the Monsters, and the Tuono. The Z1000 is definitely the value bike out of those and fits the bill quite well...

Wouldnt you think this goes into the Just naked street bikes category? I wouldnt put it in the streetfighter category, but thats just me.
and yeah, i'd jump on this over any buell any day, no doubt!

Naked bikes, sport bikes, hooligan bikes, streetfighters. OI VEY!!
The October ish of Cycle World had a 13-bike shootout in which the Z1000 was included. Unfortunately, they decided to leave out the SV1000 and the Bandit 1200.
Anyhow, in handling, the Z1000 came in fourth behind the MZ, Tuono and the Brutale and just ahead of the fifth place XB12S. The MZ did their handling course in 43.13 seconds, the Z1000 in 44.18. FZ1: 44.72.
They said the Z1000 "is fairly well planted and has neutral steering."
In the meantime, Road Racing World had what is described as a glowing article in its latest issue about the Z. I haven't read it, but one of the long-time denizens of Z1000.net said it made him proud to own one.
Loose Sprocket 10-18-2004, 07:27 PM you are askin some Matrix questions there...are you the ONE?

how can u have a true comparo if those 2 were let out, or wasnt it just a naked bike shootout?
ScottSellersUNR 11-19-2004, 01:27 PM I have had my 2003 Z1000 for aobut 4500 mi and 4 monthes, its a GREAT bike.. VERY comfy, seat breaks in and is pretty good as well, only gripe is gas mileage... 32-38 if u ride like a sport bike is intended, and if you keep it on one wheel everywhere u go and put it up at every light... under 30...prob 28 on average on a intense ride hwere RPMs dont see anyting less then 7K. So on a long trip u better have a gas station less then 180 miles awya cuz thatsp ushing it, if u ride hard u cant make 160 miles. Otherwise handling is GREAT, which wouldnt be as great if the setitgns didnt workj for your weight and height and such, but for me at 6'1" and 175 lbs.. its perfect, stiffened the forks a lil but thats all. Stock tires are track day quality.. Bridgestone BT14's...softest tread of any of em, they will balrey make 5K miles till they are beyond worn and look like slicks though, but in the name of performance.. they kick ass. The power is great.. it will pull the wheel up from a 94mph roll on with the basic bolt on mods (4-1 Exhaust, PC3 and K&N drop in filter) All of which ive done to date.
Versus the Zx-10R....it will get killed, but thats what will happen to the 10 riders back if they try to commute over 25 miles with u... I ride with a large group of riders who rider a full range of bikes, and by 3 hours into a hard ride they have to stop and stretch.. the Z is good to go and a 5 min break for refueling is all thats required.. its got 6 hours a day of comfort under it.
When i bought it i iddnt particularrly like the style either... but for its overall performance nad comfort, im extatic i bought it over a Zx636 or Zx10r even. Though if money allows i will own a Zx10R as weell when the Z1K gets paid off.
GSXR1000DJ 11-19-2004, 01:37 PM Sounds like a sweet deal. Welcome to TWF and enjoy your time here. :dthumb: Let sus know if you get the 10R. :)

BUT BUT BUT....IT'S GREEN

Damn homey, you got good gas mileage. I doubt many of the hardcore sportbikes are pushing that...
I'm lucky to get 125... 100 if I'm thrashin on it!

same here..when im pushing it, i end up gettin more drink at about 100...but milkin it, maybe 140 if i push it and pray alot!!
ScottSellersUNR 11-20-2004, 01:38 PM I guess that makes me feel better aobut mine then...lol but i still cant make it across Nevada because theres places that theres no gas stations for about 230 miles....and if im ridng across nevada then its more then a day trip, plus why would i want to carry 5 gallons of gas on me extra... talk about a heavy bike at that point. with some clothes too you better be ready for a sore back and a saggy tail (the bike). Guess thats hwy i go the other way and ride in CA though...plus the additional power the bike gets in Cali is hard to beat for how fun it makes the trip, nothing like 15 to 140 on an on ramp.

230 miles and no gas station!! OUCH!!! thats crazy!!

But you have a V and that is pretty normal!! Just ask Twisty about his TLS!!
I can get about 135-150 on my 9R...use to be able to get 150-175 until I jetted it! :dthumb:
pickle.of.doom 11-20-2004, 11:27 PM Yep, I knew what I was gettin into when I got it! I don't mind takin breaks that often anyway.. I don't do much freeway munchin, as little as possible actually, and 100 miles of twisty backroads and I'm ready for a smoke and a pancake!
230 miles between gas stations... sheesh... I'd have to bring like 12 gallons along with me!
GSXR1000DJ 11-20-2004, 11:42 PM Hey...didn't we or don't we still have a thread about the this. :D Not that this never happens in here.
Anyways..I think I get around 110-120 maybe 130 if I don't ride her hard. If I am riding her hard then I may only get 100 or so before the gas light comes on.
And here is that link if you want to add these last few post to there N4S like you like to do to keep things tidy here for us. LOL
