I just found out yesterday that my nephew is joining the Army. He is going into Computer Information or something like that. He is going to basic in North Carolina, AIT in Virginia, and his permanent duty station is going to be in Kansas. He signed up for a 6 year enlistment and is being told he will only have to do 1 tour of duty in Iraq. Is this right? I would have thought in a 6 year term would do at least 3 tours over there. Do any of you Army types have any insight into this? :idk:

Well, according to John Kerry, he must not have stayed in school and gotten an education.

Once you sign and raise your right hand twice...you are government property...to do with as they please...no matter what they told you...they can always "reassign" you " in the best interests of the Service"...

They can tell him anything they want. But they can also send him anywhere they want, any time they want, and as many times as they want. A good friend of mine just joined the guard and is going in as infantry. I'm all for wanting to serve your country, but I think there are better ways to do it when you have 4 kids and a wife who love you very much. Going in as infantry is a definite trip to the big sandbox.

Now whom ever told him that he is only going to have to do one year in Iraq, well sorry to tell ya but that is a lie. No one knows for sure how long any one person will have to spend overesees. But I will tel you this, Fort Riley Kansas (Home of the Big Red One Fort Riley (http://www.riley.army.mil/)) is a rapid deployment post. They deploy soldiers from there just as quick as any other post. With his inital enlistment of six years, it is probably more than likely that he will spend more that a year deployed. But like I said, no one person really knows for sure........Good luck and congrats to your nephew for a wise career choice.

well it would be cool if he thought he new his fist duty station before he even went to basic (i'm in the aim high crew and we did not even know our first duty station before we went in) he is already getting ****ed don't listen to the recruiter he is trying to meet his anual #'s.
