Found these online.. (http://www.newenough.com/product_group_closeout_textile.htm) Now Obviously, leathers are the best for riding, no doubt, no question. However, are these types of riding gear, that much worse that if you go down, their done, and need to be replaced, or are they fairly well made and would last a while ? Just trying to get some ideas.. U know since everybody wants me to get a jacket and all ;) http://www.newenough.com/product_pictures/f/firstgear_speed_jacket/grey_front_200.jpg http://www.newenough.com/product_pictures/f/firstgear_ht_sport_pants/front_300h.jpg

Get the leathers. :dthumb: However if money is an issue(which is why I didn't buy the $500 leather jacket),atleast get the textile. It has all the body armor that the leather has to protect you with. The only down fall to it is that its not leather. Something with armor is better then nothing. :)

CJD and I were talkin about this last nite

yeah, but dont all leathers fit a bit different, depending on the types/manufacturer..so if I try one style on at a dealer, and then order something from ebay or whatever, i run the risk of ending up with a great pair of leathers and cant wear them ..right?

If you can't afford Leather, I think the First Gear Speed Leather-Tex jacket looks like a very nice jacket. I have seen one in a store in town and thought it looked pretty nice. It has leather in the areas you are most likely to hit and slide on. It has great vetilation. Here is another site that has these jackets for sale also. http://www.motorcyclecloseouts.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=50-9658 This site also has some First Gear leather on sale also. I don't know what kind of jacket you are looking for either, or the size, but this JR 88 at NewEnough is a great buy!! http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_rocket88_jacket_page.htm I don't know much about the pants. I just got the First Gear HT Overpants and I do like them. Ron

If you are worried about how did manufacturers have there sizing from one another...try on a few different ones and write them down if on fits a little different from anther manufacturer. Then go to the internet and look for what you like and can buy. :dthumb:

Leather is nice, but heavy, textile breathes a little better, but doesn't crash real well. Personnally I love my Textile for most summer days and evenings and save the Leather Meshy for rides over 80 degrees. The Speedmaster was perforated and way cooler then I thought it would be, but should be great in the summertime. My textile Saturday night was ten times warmer then my 1-piece all weekend. As far as buying gear online goes. Different manufacturers fit way differently even though they may be the same size. Just like anything else, a size ten Nike fits different then a size ten Reebok. So look around and try and find what fits you best and then shop it online. Your local shop may match prices, so it never hurts to ask. Remember "support your local bike shop" without them you would just keep buying **** randomy or get stuck wearing ill fitting gear.

To add to the different sizing problems, if you start looking at different styles from the SAME MFG, you can find a BIG difference in how they fit. I was looking at First Gear stuff. I generally wear an XXL size jacket. I tried on one of their XL in one style and it was not a bad fit. Another XL in a different model (still First Gear) was way to small. It sure is better to try the exact jacket you want to buy if you can, and then order it online. If you could find the jacket in your first thread, in your size, and try it on, and find the right size, I think you may be very happy with the First Gear Speed Leather-Tex. It is a well designed and made jacket. Ron

Matt did you get a coat yet? Quit pwing on here and go out and get a coat... lol.. Best thing to do if someone didn't already say it because I didn't feel like reading long posts, etc. - Who does long bloviated post anyways - THEY NEED TO GO TO A REHAB. Don't be doing that with the kids in the house. What are you hanging out with Pedro Guerra? You need to go to a rehab. Um, ok. Back to our regularly scheduled program - best thing to do is go to a local shop and try them on (and price them out) then go online and buy the size that fits best.

found these also at our vendors site.. speedwerks.com http://www.speedwerks.com/images/3452.jpg I've got an Icon jacket. It's very well made. It has anatomically correct CE armor and a full sleeve liner. I would venture to say that it's almost as nice as my old Intersport Honda Racing jacket that I just gave away. The down sides are the lack of a neck warmer, kinda flimsy back armor, and the model I have has no side pockets! I believe the Mainframe does, though.

It's definately gonna have to have side pockets, and I can always get upgraded back armor is necessary. I think, for me, I'll probably have to go textile..its alot more within my budget than leathers..but its better than wearing a fleece to ride in ride ? ;)

speaking of textile stuff, how warm are the pants/jackets,,,compared to the actual leathers ? Inquiring minds want to know, like mine. Don't have textiles, but my leathers have served me well between 85F (with high humidity) and 50F so far, without any signficant issues. Haven't had it out on the really hot days yet (90F+) and I do ride at high rates of speed almost the entire time (no real traffic).

I really would like leathers, but Im mainly considering this, to keep from breaking the bank, and yet still gimme some protection.. I would imagine, with the liners in, they are quite comfortable, but of course not as good as leathers.

You are 100% correct about textile not as protective as leathers but anything is better then nothing. I have the Suzuki textile race jacket and still have the liner in it and it does me great with riding. I don't get to hot and it does keep me warm at night when riding. They are very comfortable. Go to Action and try one on. :dthumb:

personally I were a leather/mesh joe rocket in the summer. Breathes thro the body but has the leather shoulders and arms. But for winter gear I have a FirstGear Blade leather jacket. The winter textiles just get to bulky in colder weather in my opinion. I really mainly were my tex to work cause I wear a shirt, tie and slacks everyday and sweating just doesn't look good  Man I'm good at writing a bunch and never having a point

Actually, fb, I wear semi-formal wear to work, but change when I get there. I haul out my slacks, pressed shirt, tie, shoes and socks and just change in the handicapped stall. Then I re-change when I head home. Of course, with an hour's drive each way, all this work is worth it. If I were commuting 15mins, I bet I'd do the same thing you are.
