A suggestion was made to create a motocross forum, perhaps as a sub-forum to the track forum. What do you think?

:iagree: Rider 01-23-2007, 08:14 AM Shan what is comes down to is this. Do you want people spending more time on TWF or do you want them to have to split time between TWF and some other forum? As a business man, I think you want all the people here on TWF posting as much as possible. :idk: Its your forum, you make the call. saverok 01-23-2007, 09:47 AM I agree with GR_Z750s_rider
but I did vote on the doesn't matter to me. I'm not really in to motorcross that much myself. Back _Marker 01-23-2007, 09:55 AM i'd rather see a nude biker chick forum or nude ex-biker gf's with pics ( . Y . )

I understand that viewpoint, but using that logic should we have a cruiser forum? Maybe a sport touring forum? Maybe a custom chopper forum? Most of us have automobiles, how about a car and truck forum? I want people spending their time here and 90% of the forum posters are men, so how about a babes forum? Where does it end?
We have a pocketbikes forum, for instance. There are only 27 threads in that forum. There are other similar forums on our site with little traffic. I'm not saying motocross would have more or less, that's the point of this poll: to find out the interest.
From a new member standpoint, if I am looking for a forum to spend my time on, I want one with activity. I want one where I know that if I post a question and need help, I'm going to get a response quickly. One way to determine that is to look at the forum traffic. Right now, if I was a huge into pocketbikes, I'd look at our pocketbike forum and continue searching the web for something with more pocketbike traffic.
What's worse, not having a pocketbike forum at all, or having one with little traffic? In my experience you're better off not having one rather than advertising you don't have any traffic.
So, "as a business man" I have to make sure the forum is appealing to both new and old members. drewpy 01-23-2007, 10:38 AM I understand that viewpoint, but using that logic should we have a cruiser forum? i would jump in a dirt forum, but it would have to involve quads, but i would personally love to see a babe forum per your suggestion above  , or what about a nws section? and im not talkin about just having a bunch of nuddys on it just some dirty jokes, maybe a more mature section either way :twfrox: DLIT 01-23-2007, 11:03 AM I couldn't care less if it's added.
But I gotta say that at the bottom of the logo it says "Internet's SB community", but it's not uncommon for forums to have different categories either. I know I wouldn't view it much. No interest in MX. ShanMan14 01-23-2007, 11:13 AM i would jump in a dirt forum, but it would have to involve quads,
And there you have it... so if we made the jump to dirt is the next progression to quads? Now how far have we strayed from "Internet's sportbike community?"
I really appreciate the input. I realize after re-reading my posts I appear anti-MX, but I want to stress I'm not against anything. But, before changes are made I must play devil's advocate and weigh all options.
Keep the comments rolling! byron12 01-23-2007, 11:31 AM It could be interesting the dirt bike I have has pavement oriented scooter tires on it. I am more interested in trail riding and that sort of stuff while I respect motocross I don't follow it very closely or have any interest in doing it. So I say yes have a dirt section but don't call it motocross call it all things dirt or some other kind of catch all name...:idk: Rider 01-23-2007, 11:37 AM It could be interesting the dirt bike I have has pavement oriented scooter tires on it. I'd be cool with that, lump all the offroad stuff together. DLIT 01-23-2007, 11:45 AM It could be interesting the dirt bike I have has pavement oriented scooter tires on it. That;'s a good idea. Stunt4Life 01-23-2007, 01:37 PM I like places that are exclusively one thing. Im a membet at at least 5 forums and this one being the broadest. ShanMan14 01-23-2007, 02:57 PM So far 47% don't care, 37% say no. That leaves 16% that really want the forum. Rider 01-23-2007, 02:58 PM So far 47% don't care, 37% say no. Pssst. You should see the votes in the January BOTM poll. Low 01-23-2007, 05:58 PM If anyone is as extreme as this vid.... I will say Sure thing....
Check this out (http://www.ipiphotonet.com/domains/350/files/2140.wmv):yikes: TOMMYTOM 01-23-2007, 07:31 PM I started riding in dirt and still love it- I love anything offroad, but I voted no. I come here for specific conversation- Sport bikes. If I want off road conversation I'll go to an offroad forum. I don't think it's necessary to mix the forum. If someone wants to post what they do offroad- great we can discuss it, but does it warrant its own forum? I don't think we'd have the traffic to keep it interesting for very long. :2cents: Tempe_Ty 01-24-2007, 10:12 PM i joined this forum because it said internet's SPORTBIKE community. i think must people surfing the net for dirtbike forums would rather join a dirtbike forum. not a sportbike forum with a small section for dirtbikes. and why do the sportbike community always have to extend a hand of friendship to the other cycle communities. in most sportbike mags you see some small article or small write up on the latest harley or goldwing or enduro thingy. but in the harley, dirtbiker, v twin, custom biker, quad rider, mags, they hardly if any post a sportbike related article or even an ad. most don't even wave back to you on the road. if people want to talk about dirtbikes let them go to the OFF TOPIC section or join a DIRTBIKE community. just MHO :thx1: ..................... Rider 01-25-2007, 07:02 AM Well then by everyones response and using the same logic, we should get rid of everthing not sport bike related like the Off Topic forum and the Drag Racing forum. No, I don't necessarily believe that. The major discussion revolves around the site's purpose: sportbikes in our case. Nearly all boards have an OT section where members can discuss anything they want.
I can see the argument for dirt if we have drag, for instance. And, like I earlier, I'm not for or against, just looking for opinions. I do have a responsibility, however, to keep the site sportbike centric. Rider 01-25-2007, 07:34 AM No, I don't necessarily believe that. Off Topic is not sportbike related. Rider 01-25-2007, 07:39 AM Shan,
Go ahead and close this thread. After all the responses, I see that it wouldnt be worthwhile to have a Motocross thread here. But I dont think we should have a Drag Racing thread either. jeeps84 01-25-2007, 01:33 PM Shan,

Why is that? Lost of SportBikes drag race. Rider 01-25-2007, 01:35 PM Why is that? Lost of SportBikes drag race.
But then its a drag bike not a sport bike. byron12 01-25-2007, 04:26 PM Why is that? Lost of SportBikes drag race.
:iagree: damn I guess nobody wants a dirt forum oh well it funny how the most acftive forum on here is off topic but I was all for a dirt forum... I guess it wouldn't have any traffic though so..:idk: hell al;ot of dual sport type bikes have alot of the same characteristics of sport bikes they are just designed to be as at home on a dirt road as they are on a twisty road. Captain Morgan 01-25-2007, 04:39 PM Most of my posting is in OT anyway, so it doesn't matter much to me. Now, if I had a dirtbike, then a motocross forum would be a good place for technical stuff, but I'm not sure we have enough dirtbike folks here to warrant a dedicated area for it. justpucky 01-25-2007, 04:45 PM Why is that? Lost of SportBikes drag race.
:withstupi Most people view dirtbikes and sport/road bikes as major different creatures. However most sportbikes can drag without modifications, and are easily modified. Therefore that is a more relevant sub-forum than dirt. Gas Man 01-25-2007, 10:05 PM But people drag race sportbikes. People don't do much dirt riding on sportbikes...
But I don't care either way.... byron12 01-25-2007, 10:44 PM busa powered hillclimb bike kinda like a drag race

Yeah rare exceptions! 2FURYUS 01-28-2007, 06:20 PM Although I don't spend as much time here as I use to...since work is making me work. I originally voted yes, but the more I think about it, I don't think it would get much activity. I voted that I don't care, but from a business standpoint you have two options: specialize or diversify.
The site is already pretty specialized which is part of it's allure, however if the core posters are any indication, the audience is extremely diverse. I am willing to bet, simply based upon how many people start threads like, "looking for a sportbike, have 10 years dirt experience" that you could probably generate more noob posters by adding a dirt section. Playing to their comfort zone could get them to become more active, which would most likely translate into more activity on the core forum. Obviously this could partially be identified by taking a look at who has voted on this poll so far... Posters or non-posters... If it's heavily biased towards non-posters then there is a better chance that these folks may open up.
Further, there are many vendors out there that are dirt focused which could pull additional advertising support for the site as a whole.
While I am ignorant to the costs associated with this idea, I cannot imagine the investment could be that significant and the community seems to not be appalled by the idea... The risk seems small so I say try it... If it doesn't get much attention, shut-er-down... marko138 02-13-2007, 11:15 PM My :2cents:
