Forum suggestion thread

Since we're new and since this site exists to serve you, the rider, I would like ask for your suggestions. What you like, what don't you like? What can we add that would make this a better place to visit? Let me know, I'm open to change! :)

I think maybe the entire "Riding" section w/ the six seperate forums could actually be condensed to just one for now. Kind of a "General Riding" area for all bikes and rider types, at least until we get more traffic. The "Upcoming Events" deal is awesome, but it might be better to have it at the top of the page. . easer to scan when you first get here. :smilelol: <--- make this guy :lolg: instead of smilelol since that's what we're used to at the other place. That's something we've already discussed. Do you have any suggestions? Well..you could go the military rank method..and everybody starts out at a private, then say after 100 posts, you become a corporal, and after 200, a sergeant, etc etc... but not quite sure how that would go over, or if I really care for it that much myself, since we're a bike forum, but it could be cool. Another way would be to just say, after a member gets a certain number of posts, amount to be determined by the Admin/Mods...then you can set it to anything you want, and change it at will. Another way, is the use the above military method, but instead of military ranks, use general acronyms ... examples: newbie, novice,intermediate advanced, expert, etc. OR..use acronyms related to sportbikes, which could be really cool, considering we are apart of a sportbike forum. Everbody starts out as a Ninja 500, then work your way up to a 600,750,1000, 1200, and then a Busa....could be alittle korny, I dont know. Just a few thoughts I had.. Matt

Good suggestions. We were actually throwing around the cc idea earlier. I'll see if I can get something done here quickly, we may change it but at least we can get rid of the generic tags.

Not sure if this has been discussed and I didn't see anything on the site yet about it..but running some contests, giving away TWF T-shirts, Hats, etc. Heck, you could run one now, and see who can guess what Sportbike will pick as the Bike of the Year, then draw a name from all who guessed correctly. Could run contests from sportbike related questions, to trivia contests about manufacturers and our sport in general. The possibilities could be endless, and then as we get bigger, you can expand the contests and prizes, etc. _____________________________ Perhaps as the site grows, you can someday pick up webmail access for members to obtain a free email account username@twowheelforum.com or something like that. _______________________________ Have some general site built avatars, mainly from manufactures/popular rides/popular superbike riders, etc....as well as still keeping the ability to upload your own avatar, like now. Just a few thoughts I had... Keep up the great work on this site.

In other words, they link to us, we're linking to them. We could, and probably, should add a separate section for major manufacturers.

I posted that thread about the 4 1000cc bikes..but honestly, I wasnt sure if it would fit in that category, but didnt know where else to put it...perhaps, something along the lines of the Off Topic section...like a general discussion area about the comparisons between different manufacturers, ..so that, for example, the Suzuki people might not wander into the honda forum that often,and consequently miss out on some nice conversations, debates, pics, etc...(not that anybody should miss out on the other cool sections, but im sure it happens sometimes) .... Not sure if something like this would be needed..just something that kinda crossed my mind, here while I sit at work, waiting to go home.. :) 40 minutes to go and counting till I can ride... :bike:

The problem with creating too many forums is that our posts are spread out so much, many folks won't visit all of the forums. It's a catch-22. You want enough specific forums so it's obvious where to post, but you don't want forums with 1 or 2 posts in them either. Believe me, we'll be consolidating forums and opening new ones as the traffic increases and I can tell what needs it's own topic and what doesn't. :cheers:

How about a Marketplace where people can buy/sell items. You could split it into two forums...moto related and other. FWIW, I am not really looking for an internet outlet to sell parts, my main goal is the service work, but I would be willing to try to help support forum members by offering discounts. So eric... when you gonna make up some TwoWheelForum Decals, static stickers, for our rides, cars, etc. Great advertising for you and a way to grab more people when were all out riding too. :)

Hey Shan... Whatcha think about possibly adding a section to the gallery for just wallpapers? There are a ton of high quality wallpapers out there for sportbikes, and it could be pretty sweet to have a section for that, so we can just go here whenever we change our comp. background. I uploaded about 1/2 dozen pics or so, some are nice wallpapers too. :)

Static stickers, decals etc. I'd like to do some eventually, but our current banner isn't friendly to decals etc. Our first logo was more appropriate for that. I think once we decide what logo is good for what purpose and we stick with it, then we can do up some decals etc. As far as the gallery, that's a good suggestion. We can add a section for wallpapers. :bike:

Hey shan, another question for you...is the settings for uploading pics, set at 1 as a default..or can it be changed to allow the uploading of multiple pics at one time. Just curious. Might be something to consider allowing the uploading of multiple pics at one time, like 3 or 4...assuming the persons connection can handle it, etc. Just curious :)

YOu can currently attach more than one photo per post, but it has to be done one at a time. Not sure about how easy it is to do that, but I know it can be done. That may be a code change too.

Yes it does need to be done one at a time and there is a code change to get it to allow you to upload more then one at a time. I will try to find it and give it to you if you want to make the change. :)

Shan..whatcha think about a specific forum just for newbies to motorcycling, where they can ask questions about riding, tactics, discuss the msf course, etc. Not sure if it would water down the board or not, but just something I thought of today.

As far as the gallery, I'll have to see if Photopost will allow it. We can certainly have a newbie section if the posts warrant that. Our traffic is about right for the forums we have at the moment. I hope to add quite a few as people sign on and start participating.

At some point..perhaps it might be cool to add on more smilies to the current list you have...might be something to consider? ..there's lots of funny ones out there, as you know. :)

I see that we also have it to go from page one or 2 when there are more then one page of comments. Say we are at the bottom of the page and instead of scrolling all the way back up to the top, how about putting a link that takes you to the top. Maybe have it in or around the same spot you now have the "Post Reply" link or maybe on the right side bottom corner of each post. What do you think of this one?

There is a ton of how to pages out there on the web that we can put up here, and of course, our own members here have extensive knowledge that Im sure could be shared as well. Put it all in 1 handy reference place..here at TWF. That way, the Technical Help And Tuning forum can be used for basic discussions, questions and advice, and then have the sticky thread for just reference. Whatcha think ? :)

A cruiser section may be warranted and possibly bring participation up as this site is linked from CF. There are a lot of cruiser guys surfing over from there that may be more prone to participate if they felt they had a place. The down side to that is that historically cruiser sections have never done well on any forum.

That's not to say we couldn't shift the focus at some point if it's warranted. However, for the time being we want to focus on sportbikes.

Hey Shan..Whatcha think about adding the option for users reputation to be present. This is a popular item listed along with the user's info on every post, that of course user's can add positive or negative feedback to the post. It's also somewhat of an incentive to post, and post intelligently at that, as to build up your reputation for yourself,and for others to see. Just a thought. :thumbs:

Here is my member profile in KP...notice the little green squares..and mouse over them..it gives you different levels of reputation based on your posts and the feedback that you get from people...your rep is also affected by the amout of positive feedback that the giver has. for example..if I have 30 rep points, and I give you positive feedback, it will show up as a better reputation than if someone gives you postive feedback who has no reputation points. these also show up in every post by the user. http://www.katanaplanet.com/kp/member.php?u=1174

Hey Shan.. Are there any more options that can be shown in the users block on their posts ? Along with join date, number of posts, location....is there anything able to be displayed, say for, years of riding experience, current bike you ride, etc. Kinda helps personalize each member alittle more and tells some more about them to other members. Just a thought I had from some other sites that use this. :confused: :)

Not stock options... It would have to be a custom job, but it's possible.

Is there an option that allows a member to see who's veiwing the thread that you are currently in? like I know you can click on the who's currently online link at the bottom of the index page..but for example, Im in this thread now, and at the bottom of this page, show what members are also viewing this thread...its helpful if you are asking a question to a specific member, or looking for a response to a direct question from somebody who posted in that thread or something. seen that on some other boards but not sure if its available here :)

Well, we want to keep our forum, in strive to stay ahead of the rest. We want to get more use out of our web server and keep WOS doing one thing better than some of the other groups around. Nothing against them, but this way we can run it the way we want it and be self sufficient. Does that make sense to anybody else?

As long as you guys stick around here, thats the main thing :dthumb: ..but if you ever decide to just use TWF..that would be sweet!! Im sure shan would make a Forum for just WOS info/activities, similar to what we are trying to accomplish in other areas.

We still have some forums that don't have a lot of traffic. To have newbies come visit the main page and see no one has posted to one of the less used forums may steer them away.

Hmmm... I guess. Here's my issue: I always have to click in each section to find out if there really is anything new because even when I've read a thread it often doesn't mark the darn thing read. This is especially true when going form one machine to another. Maybe it's just my machines though.

I live for the New Posts button, and also the Active Topics button as well. I don't post quite as much as some on here, but when I do, those are the 2 buttons I always reach for first when looking for interesting topics to post in.

Nope. I simply look at the index page and go where the new threads are. Course sometimes the threads say they are new when they aren't, and some sections say there are new threads when there aren't... I can live with it though!

When you're done reading, you might consider marking all forums as read (http://www.twowheelforum.com/forumdisplay.php?do=markread). That will reset the site cookies.
