Thinking of painting my bike

I've been thinking of painting my bike... I really don't like the navy blue it is now... I want something that's a little more vibrant... I'm thinking of a Candy Red... like a Dark red... but the 07's are that way... so painting it like that would be kind of a waste... I want it to be unique... So I'm asking for suggestions... I've even thought about painting it SAFETY ORANGE... it'd stick out... and I've yet to see anyone with one that color... (Joe Dirt's is close) another question is about cost... for those of you who've painted your bikes... how much did it run you? I have a friend who's gonna paint it for me... (I hope) and I just want to get an Idea of what a paint job normally would cost?

the cost depends on how fancy you want it. im a bodyman so i change my bike color like my undies!. reds are a little more expensive but not much. I usually use omni or transtar or r-m paints and clears. omnis cheep but it lasts on a bike. word to the wise though pick a color of a car or truck you like and have it mixed, that way if for some reeason you damaged the bike you can match it w/out havin a whole repaint. id prolly charge around 6-7 hundred for a single color sportbike. im kinda a neat freak though. keep on the look out b/c im gonna post pics of my freshly painted 929 soon. black and burnt orange. solid orange is a safe and good color though.this is the before pichttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r305/dscort/HPIM0418_edited.jpg

im gonna try to get the pic of my sv650 w/ the airtech atx kit on it. that one i painted neon orange! it ffaded w/in a year but it was sweet! ill do some diggin.

I have seen a burnt orange into green that's money! Also, you can save some money by doing the prep work yourself...

I would also recommend doing the wet sanding and the buffing your self. after you get that paint. :dthumb:

I just hope he was serious with the offer... :luck:

I don't regret my decision even though at times I miss the ole 9R and wonder what has become of her. I'd just like to paint it... and I figure if I'm gonna change the color why not go with something that's gonna grab attention? they may still ignore me... actually I'm expecting they will... but if it stops one person from cutting me off or running me down then it's worth it... :2cents: on a side note... I can't find any automotive paint that's Safety Orange... so I'll have to talk to my friend, first to see if he's still down, cause with out him this thread is worthless... and two see if he knows where to get paint in that color

So I'm tired of waiting for the guy to get back to me... here's what I ordered today... The only other thing I should have added that there is one downfall to having such a noticable bike that is different than others. You can no longer use the excuse to a cop. "I swear it wasn't me there are all kinds of bikes out there that look like mine!!" :lol:

I could have purchased my FX in that color, but I got the midnight blue which I liked better... safety orange would be cool and different, but it make make you noticeable to the wrong people as well (the po po) :idk:

Hey Scott, I talked to Chris... he quoted me $450-$500 depending on the cost of paint.... to paint my bike... I think I'm gonna paint my frame and swing arm too... just until I can afford to get it powder-coated. thanks for the heads up... lol...
