How did that go for you? What kind did you have? :idk: I have to go to the eye doc Friday so they can say my eyeballs are out of whack. I do not want glasses or contacts. It's one of the best decisions I have ever made... I got the custom Lasik on December 16th...
My story...
The day I went in there were about 10 other people there... The waiting room and operating room were separated by about 1/2 inch of glass with the doc sitting facing away from you... You can stand there and look at the monitor in front of him to see what he is doing... pretty cool.
The first thing I noticed was that they take this little squeegee looking thing and WIPE OFF YOUR EYEBALLS... Not very comforting, but I couldn't stop watching... I saw them stick the thingy in the guy's eye and all of a sudden they are squeegeeing his eye off again...
When it was my turn I went in for a couple rounds of numbing eyedrops... From there they put these plugs in your lower tear ducts... One went in without issue, but the other wouldn't and it hurt and she kept trying and I got pissed and she kept trying and then finally she got a smaller size which went in without issue... :cursin: Then I have to put on this showercap thingy, some goggles around my neck, and some covers for my shoes... I went into the staging area and watched some other guy get led out... Then it was my turn.
I sat down on the table thingy and they positioned me next to the machine. They took a second to put in speculums ala Clockwork Orange, which I did not feel. They squirted more numbing drops in along with some wetting drops. At that point I started getting a little nervous as they swung me under the machine...
The doc squeegeed my eye, which I could not feel at all (if you want to know what it's like, turn on your windsheild wipers and stick your eye against the window). Then they stuck this thing in my eye and told me to focus straight ahead and everything would get dark.
I did and it did... It was at that point in which I pooped a little in my pants.
Then I heard a sound like a dentist drill and before I knew it they had cut my cornea... After removing the contraption from my eye and I could see again... That is, until they flipped my cornea flap back and everything was totally blurry... Another squeegeeing and I just focused on the little orange light... The laser sounded like a stun-gun and I could smell some burning (which I later found out is not normal).
Less than a minute later, they flipped my cornea back, pushed it into place, and covered my eye... One down.
Same process again, but for some reason I got a little antsy during the 2nd one... After some reassurance from the nurses and another skidmark in my drawers it was over... They led me out of the room and into a darkened office in which I was to sit with my eyes closed.
I sat... and sat... and sat... for probably 1/2 hour. Then they took me into an exam room, the doc checked my flaps, and sent me packing. I couldn't see CHIT when I left as everything was blurry... My instructions were to go home and sleep for 3-4 hours...
I got home, ate some Tylenol PM and crashed out... I woke up about 4.5 hours later with 20/20 vision. I had to wear goggles for 24 hours and for 6 weeks when I slept... I have been back for two checkups and have another sometime this month... Other than some discomfort from over-straining my eyes the first few weeks it has been excellent... The best $2,500 I have ever spent... Phenix_Rider 03-16-2007, 08:57 AM  Okay- you had me squirming there... But that's the best description I've heard of the process. Why/how were you straining your eyes? Do you know anything about the all-laser one (intraLASIK/FLVK)?
 Glad it turned out for you! I'm going in for an eye exam today, so I'll see how F'd up my eyes really are. The strain comes from just focusing too much... I think video games gave me the most problem, with the computer being a close 2nd... Also trying to focus quickly between things at varying ranges...

He said something about LASIK might not work for the shape of my eye- something I'll have to research. Do you ride with glasses? I'm worried I'll lose a lot of peripheral vision with them. I found a half-decent frame with very little "frame" So I'm hoping...

I got glasses when I was 14... Then contacts less than 6 months later... I just couldn't get used to the glasses... Isn't it AMAZING being able to see for the first time in a while? I remember walking out of the doctor and saying to my mom, "holy chit, the trees have leaves again!"

I was the same way... The first time I put in contacts I think it took me an hour for both eyes... After a couple weeks I was down to 5-10 minutes... After 10+ years I could take them out and put them in one handed, without a mirror and while combing my hair... Took me 3 seconds MAX.

Glasses and contacts have their advantages and disadvantages when riding... Glasses fog, slip, and peripherals can be a problem... Contacts fog, slip, and can irritate your eyes... I have had to pull over to take my helmet off and readjust my contact on more than one occassion...
Lens Restriction is a joke IMHO... Basically it says you need to have corrective lenses when driving... I have been pulled over who knows how many times, not once was I wearing glasses and not once did any cop ever even ask me if I was wearing contacts (sometimes I wasn't!). ebbs15 03-17-2007, 12:58 PM Yeah I absolutely hate driving with out my glasses or contacts though... especially in that in between light (dusk dawn) but pretty much any low light situation SUCKS with an stigmatizim. I've always been able to see just fine. Recently I noticed my right eye dominating, but no big. Distance, up close, no problem. Just staring at a computer all day (in flourescent lighting) and driving in low-light conditions all the time is starting to bug me. I don't have the glasses yet- have to wait a week, but I don't foresee any huge change.
If they make work more bearable, I'll wear them. If not, I'll use them to get my permit and forget them. I can SEE just fine, I just can't READ their damn tests. L48Shark 03-17-2007, 02:00 PM My friend has a CDL (translation: he's licensed to drive a semi-truck) and when we went to get our endosments they checked our vision. Yeah I already sold that, it's already on it's new owners bike, sorry. How are you going to be riding it? It sucked in the twisties.
