The first breakfast cereal Fruity Pebbles. Lucky Charms. Trix. We're all familiar with these sugary breakfast cereals that make kids drool. But did you know the first breakfast cereal was too hard to bite and created simply to relieve constipation? The first breakfast cereal was "Granula," invented in 1863 by Dr. James Caleb Jackson. Granula was far from convenient. It had to be soaked overnight before it was even possible to chew the dense, bran-heavy nuggets. John Harvey Kellogg became a cereal godfather by creating the first breakfast cereal that was easy to chew. In 1895, he came up with a cereal flake made of wheat, which he called "Granose." Kellogg made great strides, but was not a good business man. He catered to just the wealthy members of society, who would travel to buy his flakes to relieve constipation. Charles William Post became a cereal guru when he successfully marketed breakfast cereal to the point that it filled grocery store shelves across the nation. Near the turn of the 20th century, Post created the cereal "Grape Nuts." Post originally marketed it as a grain beverage. It failed as a beverage, but was a hit as a breakfast cereal. Kellogg's brother improved "Granose" and was responsible for the Kellogg food line we know today. By 1902, 30 different breakfast cereal companies sprouted up, most of them fly-by-night operations claiming their cereals would cure Americans' every ill.

A: We Went To The Encyclopedia Britannica To Find Your Answer. It Says Soap Operas Got That Name Because They Were Dramatic, Like An Opera, And Because Soap And Detergent Manufacturers Were The First Sponsors Of These Programs. ex.. proctor and gamble. Soap Operas First Started As Radio Programs In The 30's And 40's, And Evolved Into A Tv Phenomenon In The 1960's. This Was A Time When Women Were A Minority In The Workforce And Were Home During The Afternoon To Watch Them. As A Result, Lots Of The Sponsors Sold Soap To These Housewives.

First..just a FYI..87 octane fuel in the United States would be 92 in Europe. :D People in the United States use 360 million gallons (1.36 billion liters) of gasoline each day. That is all octane. That is 131,400,000,000 billion gallons. And I think its a little over 43% of users use 87. So 56.5 billion gallons I think is your answer.

Ding Ding Ding...you win another night with me.... YEAH FOR US!!! Diesel, which could be Low Sulfer Diesel or High Sulfer Diesel, and even now a days Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel....weights in the range of 30-37 degrees of Gravity. While unleaded gasoline, regardless of the octane, weights from 50-65 degrees of gravity. Of coarse, water is considered to weight 1.0 degrees.... The lower the number the heavier it is! The evergreen fir tree has been used to celebrate winter festivals (pagan and Christian) for thousands of years. Pagans used branches of it to decorate their homes during the winter solstice as it made them think of the spring to come. The Romans used Fir Trees to decorate their temples at the festival of Saturnalia. Christians use it as a sign of everlasting life with God. Nobody is really sure when Fir trees were first used as Christmas trees. It probably started about began 1000 years ago in Germany. One story that is told, is that St. Boniface of Crediton (a place in Devon, UK) left England and travelled to Germany to preach to the pagan German tribes and convert them to Christianity. He is said to have come across a group of pagans about to sacrifice a young boy while worshipping an oak tree. In anger, and to stop the sacrifice, St. Boniface is said to have cut down the oak tree and, to his amazement, a young fir tree sprang up from the roots of the oak tree. St. Boniface took this as a sign of the Christian faith and his followers decorated the tree with candles so that St. Boniface could preach to the pagans at night.

The turn-signal circuit gets power when the ignition key is on. The power goes through a fuse panel into the thermal flasher. From there it goes to the stalk on the steering column. Depending on the position of the turn-signal stalk, the power either stops in the switch or gets sent to the left or right turn-signal lights (including the indicator lights on the dashboard). Power flows through the filament of the lights and then is grounded. This is all fairly straightforward, but you might be a little surprised at how the thermal flasher works. The Thermal Flasher This small, cylindrical device is sometimes located in the fuse panel under the dashboard of the car. It costs about $3 in the auto parts store and works reliably for years. Inside the thermal flasher there are a few simple components: An electrical contact that conducts electricity into the wire A piece of gently curved spring steel to which the electrical contact attaches A resistive wire wrapped around a smaller piece of spring steel When you push the turn-signal stalk down, the thermal flasher connects to the turn-signal bulbs by way of the turn-signal switch. This completes the circuit, allowing current to flow. Initially, the spring steel does not touch the contact, so the only thing that draws power is the resistor. Current flows through the resistive wire, heating up the smaller piece of spring steel and then continuing on to the turn-signal lights. At this point, the current is so small that the lights won't even glow dimly. After less than a second, the small piece of spring steel heats up enough that it expands and straightens out the larger, curved piece of spring steel. This forces the curved spring steel into the contact so that current flows to the signal lights unimpeded by the resistor. With almost no current passing through the resistor, the spring steel quickly cools, bending back away from the contact and breaking the circuit. The cycle then starts over. This happens at a rate of one to two times per second. Self-Canceling Signals Most cars have a mechanism that shuts off the turn signal when you are finished making a turn. You are driving straight down a road and put your right turn signal on. You slow down and turn the steering wheel to the right. The turn signal is still blinking away. As soon as you make the turn and turn the steering wheel back to the left, the turn signal goes off and the lever pops back to its original position. How does it do that? On the steering shaft (the part that spins when you turn the steering wheel), there is a notched hub. There are four notches equally spaced around the hub. When the turn signal is on, a plastic lever on the turn-signal switch is pushed into the path of these notches. When you lift the turn-signal stalk to signal a right turn, a spring-loaded roller falls into a notch in the switch housing, holding the stalk in place. At the same time, a plastic lever thrusts out into the path of the hub. As the hub continues to rotate clockwise, the notches hit the plastic lever, which rocks to let each notch pass. When the wheel turns back to the left, the hub turns counterclockwise, pushing the plastic lever in the other direction. This forces the spring-loaded roller out of its notch in the switch housing, so the stalk springs back to its centered position

You are so full of it! It is the "blinker fluid" controlled by the "kanutan valve" and the "muffler bearings" that make them blink. The Kanutan valve adjusts the flow of the blinker fluid (a derivative of "light bug juice") and the muffler bearings adjust the ambient temperature through the "blinking mechanism" which explains why when the bike isn't running the blinkers are more dim. Jeez. You guys just don't get it do you? Just make sure you check your blinker fluid regularly.

How does rain/water get transformed into snow? :rant:Snow sucks!! :cursin:  :willy: ..Rather than give it to u in my own words, I got the official info, just so u know. When you watch the local weather report on the evening news, you always hear the "current temperature." It may be, for example, 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius) outside. That is useful information, but if it is precipitating, it is only one part of the puzzle. It turns out that the atmosphere is layered, and these layers control the form that precipitation will take. The local weather report only gives us the ground-level temperature. In order to understand sleet, snow and freezing rain, what we would need is perhaps four to six different temperature readings at different altitudes. Precipitation starts in the cloud as snow. As it falls, it may travel through a layer of air that has a temperature greater than 32 F (0 C). This layer melts the snow into rain. If the temperature at ground level is below freezing, then the water may refreeze in the air, and we get sleet. Or, if the layer of sub-freezing air at ground level is thin, the precipitation falls as rain but then freezes once it touches a freezing object on the ground. For snow to fall, all of the layers of air that the snow falls through once it leaves the cloud must be sub-freezing. The warm middle layers are normally caused by the movement of warm fronts or cold fronts through the area. In the Southeast, temperatures often hover around 32 F, so the form of precipitation can change all the time. In more northern areas, the temperature is well below freezing, so snow is a sure thing.

Here is one for you - pipes freeze at 32 degrees but at what temperature do they burst? Gasman wants to know... Of course MP is well aware of this answer and if you get it right I will tell you the reason why I know..

GSXR1000DJ
12-13-2004, 01:14 PM
Water freezes at 32 degrees. And as water freezes it causes it to expand and swell. Now it is not always the frozen water(ice) that caues the pipes to burst. When it freezes it causes the water to back up and pressure will start to build up and whereever there is a week spot in the pipe is what the water is going to burst out causing it to burst.

I have no trailer...but the answer to the question is right. No it isn't. Pipes burst at 33 degrees - in the process of thawing. That is when the thermal expansion is prevailant. No I don't know because of my mobile home that I am currently trying to sell along with the condo I am trying to sell. I know because I worked in some apartments that had a bad freezing problem - why you ask? Because some dumb arse decided to build California spec apartments in Michigan - bright guy! So the wind whipped through and frooze the pipes. We used an arc welder to thaw - why? Because it thawed so quick it would go past the 33 degree danger mark quick enough to not burst the pipes. In regular thawing, i.e. leave them alone and hope it gets warmer out or the hairdryer method, the pipes in the process of thawing reach 33 degrees and stay there for too long then they burst. Actually when they are frozen the pipe condenses and when it heats up it expands. If you ever have a freezing pipe problem always drip the hot water - never just cold - why? Hot water ALWAYS freezes faster than cold water and that is the Gasman wants to know question of the day - why does hot water freeze faster than cold water? Gasman wants to know.. Line up beotches - I am going to pimp slap the stupid out of all of you.

There are several answers.. one, is that your body is lacking oxygen, so you yawn to replenish the supply..thats why alot of times when you yawn, you're not doing much physically, so your body systems aren't functioning at a more brisk level.

Gas Man wants to know... Why do we, humans, :yaewn: ????? :willy: :flush: :bonk: :pat: Everyone yawns - babies, kids, teenagers, adults. Some birds, reptiles and most mammals also yawn. However, the reason why we yawn is a bit of a mystery. There is also very little research on yawning because for most people yawning is not a problem. Here are a few things that are known about yawns: The average duration of a yawn is about 6 seconds. In humans, the earliest occurrence of a yawn happens at about 11 weeks after conception - that's BEFORE the baby is born! Yawns become contagious to people between the first and second years of life. A part of the brain that plays an important role in yawning is the hypothalamus. Research has shown that some neurotransmitters (for example, dopamine, excitatory amino acids, nitric oxide) and neuropeptides increase yawning if injected in the hypothalamus of animals. And another: that we yawn because oxygen levels in our lungs are low. Studies have shown that during normal, at-rest breathing, we don’t use anywhere near our lung capacity; for the most part, we just use the air sacs at the bottom of the lungs. If the air sacs, called alveoli, don’t get fresh air, they partially collapse and the lungs stiffen a bit. As a result, it’s believed, our brain prompts the body to either sigh or take a yawn to get more air into the lungs. But certain aspects of yawning remain even more mysterious. Fetuses, for instances, have been observed yawning in the womb, yet it’s known that they don’t take oxygen in through their lungs. And yawning seems to be a symptom of multiple sclerosis and other medical conditions, for reasons unclear. Another puzzling phenomenon is that some male animals, men included, yawn in association with penile erection (although it’s presumptuous to assume they’re bored with their sex lives). And N4S...its not the whole body, just brain and lungs.

Ok Ok!!! Gas Man wants to know... Who was Bach's (the composer) second wife?

GSXR1000DJ
12-18-2004, 12:15 AM
You arse...I said a hard question. In 1721, he married Anna Wilcke. They had 13 children together. Altogether, Bach had 20 children with his two wives, but 10 of his children died in infancy. Four went on to become well-known composers and musicians. Now make it harder next time. I know my classical music.
