Need4Speed 11-05-2004, 11:34 AM "For those of you who wear full face helmets or helmets with face shields there is a simple fix for blindness caused by riding into the sun. Place about a 2 inch strip of material similar to that used for making car windows dark at the bottom of your visor. Now when you're riding into the sun you can move your visor up until it is in the way of the sun's disk and then either look through the darkened area or under it or over it, depending on how high the sun is in the sky. If that's not dark enough for you just ad another strip over the top of the first one. I've ridden thousands of miles with mine and it works great. The main reason I like this over a tinted visor is that I don't have to change visor's to ride at night. Just make sure the darkened area is out of your vision when it's dark out."
No, this isnt me, but thought it was kind of an interesting concept ?
Need4Speed 11-05-2004, 12:12 PM seems to me a tinted shield would be the easier way to go..but i can see the point I suppose, especially if u ride alot at dusk or so when the sun is going down and u dont want a tinted shield on at nite. ?
ShanMan14 11-05-2004, 12:21 PM Sunglasses work well too. :D
Gas Man 11-05-2004, 01:13 PM Troy Lee Designs make a nice visor sticker thing...
bumblebee 11-05-2004, 01:16 PM Oh My!! I am not supposed to ride with one eye closed and my hand up in front of my eyes?????
GSXR1000DJ 11-05-2004, 01:20 PM Where did you see this?? On another forum. Sunglasses work fine as Shan put it or a tinted sheild. :)
Need4Speed 11-05-2004, 01:54 PM yes i found it on the net and never though about doing it & wanted to see what TWF thought.
Heath3n 11-05-2004, 03:02 PM Oh My!! I am not supposed to ride with one eye closed and my hand up in front of my eyes?????

Big Kahuna 11-05-2004, 04:32 PM I've used this in the past, works great!

GSXR1000DJ 11-05-2004, 04:34 PM WOW...that looks pretty cool and looks like it will work pretty well too. But I am going to stick with my smoked screen I got. :D

nice review kahuna!! thanks for the info...changing out shields, while normally quite simple, can still be a pain when ur out for an all day ride..so this would definatley come in handy.
Big Kahuna 11-05-2004, 04:39 PM My eyes are very sensitive so I use a tinted visor, sunglasses and the sunblocker. Although I haven't got one for my new helmet and I really needed it on the last trip I took.
Need4Speed 11-05-2004, 04:48 PM so it clips on somehow, or its held on kinda like a static sticker would be ?

I think its like a sticker like material. Thats what it looks like and the details make it sound like. :)
Big Kahuna 11-05-2004, 05:04 PM It's a little more permanent than a static sticker. You need to get it wet, move it to where you want it and then leave it over night. It stays on really well even during cleanings. When you want to take it off and move it to another visor, it comes right off and then you can put it on the new visor.
I have tried another type that actually slids in between the inner padding and the visor opening of the helmet. It stays in place even when you move the visor up and down. It worked just as good but didn't have as much surface area for defusing the sun.

thanks man, just doublechecking. seems to be well worth the small amount of money.
Becca_007 11-05-2004, 06:59 PM I've been kind of thinking about trying one of these http://www.malcolmsmith.com/dlrindexsend_pg_catprod_levelcode_6464_catalogcode_754_partheadernumber_64373-PRO+GRIP+LIGHT+SENSITIVE+SHIELD.htm. The light sensitive strip is virtually clear until the sun hits it (or so I've read). I'd guess it to work just like prescription glasses.

So do you know if it turns the color of the tint you get when the light hits it or is it always that color and justs gets darker with the light??
No Worries 11-07-2004, 12:16 AM Does anybody remember the cars from the late 40's-early 50's with the large sun visors above the windshield, on the outside of the car? Here is a sun visor for motorcycle helmets. http://www.super-visor.com/ It was rated 4 out of 5, but they took off a point because it looks dorky. But it supposedly works great. Out west, that setting sun can really blind you. For only $20, I am going to order one.
Need4Speed 11-07-2004, 12:23 AM yeah its alittle dorky, I'll give u that, but the price isnt bad, and if it works, it works!
GSXR1000DJ 11-07-2004, 12:43 AM :withstupid: I agree. It does look dorky. But since your going to order one, please do a write up on it and give us your thoughts on it so we all know if its a good thing to get or not. Will be looking forward to hearing about it.
Becca_007 11-08-2004, 08:05 AM Not sure about the coloration as I'd only seen clear to smoke before I searched for that pic.
ScottSellersUNR 11-24-2004, 05:51 PM i just ride at night with the tinted...lol works long as u stay in the city with it lit... ride in the mountians and it still works, long as u cna use highbeams in corners and have no worries about road friendly deer

I rode with mine on last week at night and it did make it easier to see in the city with the lights. But once I got to an area not very lete, I had to raise up the sheild. But its all good. :)
Gas Man 11-25-2004, 09:52 AM I've been out later than I thought with my tinted shield and it sucked! I was out in the boon docks with no city lights within 20 miles and it was really dark.
