What sort of places do rim tapeironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 01:04 AM Ya, I tried my hand at it today... I suck at life apparently. marko138 04-03-2007, 01:05 AM tapeworks.com ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 01:10 AM i think you misread. I don't want to buy it, I have it. Do paint shops do work like that or service centers? marko138 04-03-2007, 01:13 AM My bad. :sorry: pelayor1 04-03-2007, 01:24 AM I bought preshaped rim tape from ebay. I installed it in like 10 min. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Reflective-Wheel-Stripes-Rim-Tape-for-17-inch-wheels_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35593QQitemZ1401 03378956QQrdZ1 ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 01:30 AM Ok... how does that help me? pelayor1 04-03-2007, 01:35 AM it's alot easier to install. it's already cut to size. ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 01:44 AM Oh, I thought you were just patting yourself on the back in front of me or something. But ya, that would help a lot. I am gonna order some today. SVRider 04-03-2007, 11:36 AM i think you misread. I don't want to buy it, I have it. Do paint shops do work like that or service centers? You can try Tintmasters, Fargo Custom Choppers, Oden's, or Solid Performance. They may be able to do it for you. ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 01:10 PM Would University motors, Ma's cycles, or Wheels do anything like that SV? ebbs15 04-03-2007, 01:13 PM I think tapewerks.com like Marko sudgested also sell them pre curved for rims. those are what I'm going with... :2cents: fpzx10 04-03-2007, 01:25 PM Pre-curved is the way to go. itgirl25 04-03-2007, 01:28 PM i had my dealer do my rims for me when the wheels were off to get the powers put on. i think it cost me $30. better than me doing it myself though. SVRider 04-03-2007, 01:28 PM Would University motors, Ma's cycles, or Wheels do anything like that SV? Never worked with Ma's, so I'm not sure. Wheels does not regularly do it, the probably would if you asked, but results would be quesionable. They stick to sales and mechanical service, no "extra's" University would probably be the same, but you couldn't pay me to go in there. Never had a good experience with them. I'd say any place that normally does pinstriping should be able to do it well, which is why I mentioned Tintmasters and the other custom shops, they are working with it every day, so they should have a steady hand. I'll check with Jason at Tintmasters for ya, and let you know. ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 01:33 PM Sweet deal. SVRider 04-03-2007, 02:12 PM I talked to Jason at Tintmasters, said they should be able to do it. Just take in the wheels, or the whole bike, and the tape you have, tell him Ryan sent you, and he'll give you a quote. :luck: ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 02:50 PM Ryan who? And it'll probably be a week. I gotta order new tape... unless they have the red reflective stocked. ebbs15 04-03-2007, 02:57 PM Ryan who? And it'll probably be a week. I gotta order new tape... unless they have the red reflective stocked. SV is Ryan I believe:dthumb: Rider 04-03-2007, 03:02 PM It always best to leave the rim job up to someone else. :leaving: ebbs15 04-03-2007, 03:12 PM It always best to leave the rim job up to someone else. :leaving:  SVRider 04-03-2007, 05:33 PM Ryan who? And it'll probably be a week. I gotta order new tape... unless they have the red reflective stocked. ebbs is right, my name is Ryan. And they would only have standard pinstriping stocked, you would need your own rim tape. ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 09:19 PM Cool, I talked to them today. They had little to nothing to say about an estimate tho... marko138 04-03-2007, 10:33 PM It always best to leave the rim job up to someone else. :leaving: http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m95/markgraves138/950718703.jpg ironmannFB3 04-03-2007, 11:51 PM It always best to leave the rim job up to someone else. :leaving: I beg to differ. There's an old lady that puts on a "show" near Okinawa, and it's totally gross cause she butt ugly and wrinkly... but I bet it used to be pretty hot. Rider 04-04-2007, 08:59 AM http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m95/markgraves138/950718703.jpg All I see is a red X. :idk: OneSickPsycho 04-04-2007, 10:52 AM All I see is a red X. :idk: It's Marko's new favorite picture... The Diceman with a smoke hangin' out his mouth and a caption saying, "OOOOOOOHH!" UhhOhh 04-06-2007, 04:00 AM squidly question here what is rim tape and what its use..? oh yeah rider nice avatar dude is she really hitting her ? lmfao CB1terror 04-06-2007, 01:39 PM I did my rims myself with some red pinstripe saverok 04-06-2007, 05:04 PM I did my rims myself with some red pinstripe ya but your missing the point...he said that he wanted some one else to do it, because he sucked at it. Gas Man 04-06-2007, 05:41 PM squidly question here what is rim tape and what its use..? oh yeah rider nice avatar dude is she really hitting her ? lmfao t is a vynal tape cut in a circle that you put around the outer edge of your bike's rim. Its something for looks. It serves no other purpose. I'm sure somebody can post a pic of it. CB1terror 04-07-2007, 11:29 AM ya but your missing the point...he said that he wanted some one else to do it, because he sucked at it. It would be way cheaper to buy some pinstripe and practice, till it didn't look like $h1t, then have someone do it for him. OneSickPsycho 04-07-2007, 11:52 AM It would be way cheaper to buy some pinstripe and practice, till it didn't look like $h1t, then have someone do it for him. Or get a paint pen, build a quick jig, pop the bike up on stands, and spin the wheel. That's how I would do it... justpucky 04-07-2007, 12:49 PM Or get a paint pen, build a quick jig, pop the bike up on stands, and spin the wheel. That's how I would do it... If you mount the jig right, that would be sooooo simple and you'd be able to make easy money too. CB1terror 04-08-2007, 01:08 PM plus it would be alot more permanent, if thats a good thing I guess. saverok 04-08-2007, 02:03 PM It would be way cheaper to buy some pinstripe and practice, till it didn't look like $h1t, then have someone do it for him. true.....I agree....but that wasn't the question :D ironmannFB3 04-16-2007, 07:27 PM ok SV. I brought those rims in today for the estimate and he said $120 bucks and I was like :yikes: :leaving: It'd be cheaper for me to screw up 3 time in a row on both tires and get it right on the 4th than for them to get it right on the first try. :sorry: And for the rest of the conversation that I missed. I bought the rim tape because it's reflective, Because I took off my corny side reflectors on the rear and front fendors. SVRider 04-16-2007, 07:31 PM ok SV. I brought those rims in today for the estimate and he said $120 bucks and I was like :yikes: :leaving: It'd be cheaper for me to screw up 3 time in a row on both tires and get it right on the 4th than for them to get it right on the first try. :sorry: Hey no prob... that is stupid expensive... Guess that means he really doesn't want to do it. My tech at Lunde Autos (i'm the aftermarket coordinator there) could probably do it... I'd only charge you like $50, but we've never done wheels before, so i couldn't guarntee anything... He does pinstriping on cars pretty well, so since you have the wheels off, shouldn't be too bad??? :idk: And I won't be back until the 30th, I'm in Iowa for guards. how streachy and flexible is the rim tape? ironmannFB3 04-17-2007, 01:20 AM It's was stamped out from a sheet to be pre-curved so it's not on a roll. It has that reflective metal backing so it'll adhere well. I could definitely do $50. SVRider 04-17-2007, 10:04 AM pm me after the 30th, and we'll hook up. i'll take a look at them to be sure before i promise anything. ironmannFB3 04-17-2007, 10:26 AM Can I just post you a couple of pictures? I got the itch bad to get on the road again, especially now that fargo is warming up. SVRider 04-17-2007, 10:31 AM Can I just post you a couple of pictures? I got the itch bad to get on the road again, especially now that fargo is warming up. i wont be back in town until the 30th, so i won't be able to quote it out or help my tech do the work until then sorry. otherwise you can put the wheels back on, and pull them again come the end of the month. ironmannFB3 04-17-2007, 05:48 PM Tell ya what. I'm gonna give this pre cut curved stuff a try. If I can't get it I'll buy the stuff that comes on a roll and let yall take care of it. ironmannFB3 04-19-2007, 01:33 AM Put em on today and I gave em the spin test. Accurate to within about .25 - .5 of a millimeter... so pretty darn straight. I used the reflection on the rim from a light above and kept my head in the same spot to find a lay line. Took me about 2.5 hours. First side took 1.5 hours tho. SVRider 04-19-2007, 12:47 PM good job, glad you got it done.:dthumb: pelayor1 04-19-2007, 04:59 PM Nice! I bought them precurved, in silver myself. ebbs15 04-20-2007, 12:35 AM Put em on today and I gave em the spin test. Accurate to within about .25 - .5 of a millimeter... so pretty darn straight. I also painted my swing arm, engine and stator covers, and forks. Then I had my muffler, midpipe, all 4 pegs, heat shield, and fender eliminator PC'd. I'd be done tomorrow but I busted that damn drive bolt. ebbs15 04-20-2007, 12:40 AM You will wait until my bike is put back together for the full shock and awe effect.
