k_bick 04-07-2007, 07:37 AM I was looking around on E-Bay and found some new exhaust for my busa. Are they worth the money or does the exhaust need baffles for the bike to properly run right without being remaped? Heres the link.

:iagree:
Save yourself $50 and go to Autozone... And yes, running straight pipes you'll want to remap.
Gas Man 04-08-2007, 02:37 AM Yeah they sell them at AutoZone for about $5.99 HERE (http://www.autozone.com/R,NONAPP15887/store,2112/initialAction,accessoryProductDetail/shopping/accessoryProductDetail.htm)

jnn7404 04-08-2007, 05:06 PM Won't these burn your valves up? I thought about them for my bike but i dont want to replace the valves and my midpipe is welded to my header.

being an open pipe wont burn your valves up(will have to re-map), but i have heard that having too short of a pipe(like some of the super short drag pipes on harleys) can burn your exhaust valves up.

Having a carbuerated bike what size jetting would be necessary? I have a 00 zx6r. What happens if you don't jet it? And also some tips have some baffles in them would that make a difference?
ScottSellersUNR 04-11-2007, 01:02 PM bike will get really lean... BAD things happen on a really lean motor.
And as for jetting... call a company that makes jets, there are only aobut 2 compnaies if i remember right...Dynojet is one of them.
Gas Man 04-11-2007, 03:39 PM Lean motors mean there is less gas in the air mixture. Peeps must understand that gas acts as a coolant in the combustion chamber...right up until it gets ignited.

dont bother with dyno jet kit. get a set of mains (larger than stock) and experiment. say stock mains are 120 for example running no baffles and high flow intake get a set of 130 and 140 mains also should pick up some shims for needle to raise it a bit. while carbs are off drill out pilot plug.
not sure how much sportbike jets are but harleys are around 4.00 each and shims can be bought at homedepot. figure total cost is under 40.00 for all and same results as dynojet.
dnyce 04-12-2007, 05:37 PM if they have baffles, its not a true open pipe, and itll have a lil more backpressure to it...
if u dont want to experiment with it, a stage 1, 2, or 3 jet kit should get you pretty close, and have way less hassle
dscort 04-12-2007, 06:34 PM im thinkin about putting the one blue link on my chain too.

pretty close? how about getting it dialed in? either way your gonna have to take carbs off several times to dial it in and adjust shims and jets. do you trust what you get in a kit as being correct for your particular bike?

im thinking of painting a couple teeth on my belt blue:dthumb:
ScottSellersUNR 04-13-2007, 12:23 AM u wouldnt wanna get a 10 bigger jet... if stock is a 130 try a 132 a 134 and a 136..... youll be much closer...
my EX500 had the aiurbox and all smog removed, race pipes, independant pod filters... jetting went from a 132(i htink stock) to a 138(i htink..possibly a 136).... had a 140 in it and it ran fair at sea level but at 4,500 feet it bogged down at anything over 60.... now that 136 at 300 feet is running like a champ. I know just a high flow filter and a really short exhasut u'll go 1-2 jets up.....
lagerdrinker 04-13-2007, 03:02 AM i may have posted too quickly above in saying going to large in jets but my point is that you can buy individual jets to match your engine as opposed to buying a dj kit for 125.00retail which comes with like one or two sets of jets, two drill bits and a couple springs. i wouldnt even mess with springs or drill slide as it make throttle twitchy and causes hunting while steady throttle.
a few stock larger jets and a little experimentation will not only dial carb in but the understanding of how carb works and how its affected by different mods will enable you to troubleshoot it when something doesnt go right. ultimately its your money, your bike. do what makes it feel right.
lagerdrinker 04-13-2007, 03:13 AM one good thing about dj is they give you a how to on jet install on their site...

GsxrJack 04-13-2007, 08:57 AM I always had real good luck using "factory" jet kits, their base settings were almost always perfect, even after moving needle shims, different jets etc I always ended back or close to where factory told you to be,,,,,
ScottSellersUNR 04-13-2007, 07:32 PM one hting u will want with that much done to the flow is the idle needles for sure....and i guess maybe u can order those seperately too... cuz u'll move that 1-2 notches as well. I bought a jet kit. but only paid like 40$, but never drilled the carbs.. it runs great with just the main jet and the needle set right. a 600 four cylinder amy need to be better tuned then a 500 twin though to get equal results.
