1098 comeback?

Its nice to see that the Duc is coming back into the world of superbikes and competing again with the japs 1000's, the Duc was known for its torque but no power and the hard a$$ clutch it had. The Ducati manufacter suffered great loses in the past years and almost closed down but the government refused for it to close and kind of saved it a few times. The Bike mags all over the world stopped comparing the duc with the rest of the liter bikes and just named it the king of handling. Take from someone who has the new 1098s... I've ridden the Jap bikes... R1's, GSXR 1000's, CBR 1000RR's, and even Augusta F4's on the track. Comapred with the 1098, only the F4 can match it in terms of pure performance, as well as soul and the feel you get of being connected to the road and bike. While the Jap bikes perform well, they just don't 'feel' as good as the MV or the Ducati. Duc's are definately back in the game, and strong.

The cluth is very smooth and strong, but with that crisp feel you would expect from a full bread racing bike. The seating position is very agressive. The seat itself is rather high, and the footpegs are in a position that you're in a pretty agressive forward lean while riding the bike. Decently noticible compared to a GSXR1000RR. The bike is not very 'long trip' friendly for comfort, but that depends on what your own personal stamina/strength is. I could probably do a good 400'ish mile trip on it without too much wear and tear on myself. Now when you say response of the bike, what are you reguarding it to? The throttle control? Steering? Traction feeling? I'll just go through the list. The bike is a bloody rocket. It will easily keep up with most anything else on the market (other than a D16RR and the like). Mind you I haven't been able to fully wind it out yet because it's still relatively new, nor have I had mine on the track as of yet. It does take some getting use to of the throttle though. It's very finely tuned and sensitive. The steering on it is the same amazing results we expect from Ducati.. and even more so. The bike is amazingly nimble, and it feels like it weighs 150lbs less than it actually does. The bike in terms of performance, in my opinion, is more or less a 999s but improved in every way to some extent. It's still a torque monster, yes. But the fact that the bike is putting out 160hp at the crank is now very noticible. It doesn't quite feel like an R1 (if you have any clue what I mean), but the feelings are deceptive. Sorry if this is hard to read and doesn't make sense. I was out at the track all day today and I'm completely and utterly exhausted. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'm more than happy to divulge what knowledge I can.

The bad points are simple really... the mirrors suck. No doubt about that one :lol: Also, the gearing is focused more toward the lower end of the speedo. So it launches real nice and hard, and will rocket up to its max speed. But it's max is lower than most of the Jap bikes. I wouldn't say it's as harsh on the wrists as the R1 first was, but it's not great for real long trips. It's not nearly as bad as a 748 in my opinion. Gadgets? Nothing more than what other Duc's with LCD displays have, with the exception of the tach being digital as well. For the most part, the 1098s is made for the track and racing, and it accomplishes those tasks gorgeously. After seeing the new GSXR1000 K7, I think Ducati has taken the cake with the 1098s. If, however, you woul rather have a fast as heck track bike, along with some slight touring comfort, the K7 would be the better option.... .... I prefer the 1098s.
