You stay up for 16 hours. He stays up for days on end. _________________________ You take a warm shower to help you wake up. He goes days or weeks without running water. __________________________ You complain of a "headache", and call in sick. He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward. __________________________ You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends. He still fights for your right to wear that shirt. __________________________ You make sure your cell phone is in your pocket. He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags. __________________________ You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you. He knows he may not see some of his buddies again. __________________________ You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls. He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists. _________________________ You complain about how hot it is. He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow. __________________________ You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong. He doesn't get to eat today. __________________________ Your maid makes your bed and washes your clothes. He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean. __________________________ You go to the mall and get your hair redone. He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today. __________________________ You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over. He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months. __________________________ You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight. He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home. __________________________ You hug and kiss your girlfriend, like you do everyday. He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume. __________________________ You roll your eyes as a baby cries. He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet __________________________ You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything. He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting. __________________________ You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him. He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded. __________________________ You see only what the media wants you to see. He sees the broken bodies lying around him. __________________________ You are asked to go to the store by your parents. You don't. He does exactly what he is told. __________________________ You stay at home and watch TV. He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat. __________________________ You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable. He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long. ____________________________ You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him. If only there were more men like him

WOW that's awesome... and oh soo true. Amazing what others think. I hear it a lot being in the Nat'l Guard, that I'm just a "weekend warrior" and a waste of their tax dollars. I just tell them to grow a pair and join in all the free easy money then, and walk away, Proud that I have the PRIVELAGE to serve the BEST country in the WORLD! :dthumb: :pat:

The Original Fifty Laws Murphy was a grunt. A sucking chest wound is nature's way of telling you to slow down. Recoilless rifles -- aren't. Neutral countries -- aren't. Suppressive fires -- won't. Friendly fire -- isn't. The only thing more accurate than incoming enemy fire is incoming friendly fire. Incoming fire has the right of way. When you are forward of your position, the artillery will always be short. When the enemy is closing, the artillery will always be long. Try to look unimportant -- the enemy may be low on ammo. Don't look conspicuous -- it draws fire. Never draw fire -- it irritates everyone around you. Never share a foxhole with someone braver than you. Teamwork is essential -- it gives the enemy other people to shoot at. No combat ready unit ever passed inspection. No inspection ready unit ever passed combat. Fortify your front and you'll get your rear shot up. Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out. If your attack is going really well, you're in an ambush. The enemy diversion you are ignoring is the main attack. If you're short of everything except the enemy, you're in a combat zone. When in doubt -- empty your magazine. If both sides are convinced they're about to lose, they're both right. Once you have secured an area, don't forget to tell the enemy. There's always a way. The easy way is always mined. If the enemy is within range so are you. Tracers work both ways. In war, important things are simple and simple things are very hard. If it's stupid and it works, it ain't stupid. Communications will fail as soon as you desperately need fire support . Cavalry doesn't always come to the rescue. Weather ain't neutral. Remember, your weapon was made by the lowest bidder. If you can't remember -- the claymore is pointed toward you. All five second fuses are three seconds. Military Intelligence can be a contradiction in terms. There is no such thing as a perfect plan. No OPLAN survives the first enemy contact. Sniper's motto: "Reach out and touch someone." B-52's are the ultimate in close air support. Peace is our profession -- mass murder's just a hobby. Killing for peace is like whoring for virginity. Professionals are predictable but the world is full of dangerous amateurs. All other things being equal, the side with the simplest uniforms wins. It's not the one with your name on it -- it's the one addressed "to whom it may concern" that you should be worried about. Mines are an equal opportunity weapon. Smart bombs have bad days too. Remember that napalm is an area weapon. Don't ever be the first, don't ever be the last and don't ever volunteer for anything. Anything you do can get you shot-- including doing nothing. A Purple Heart just proves that you were smart enough to think of a plan, stupid enough to try it, and lucky enough to survive. It is generally inadvisable to eject directly over the area you just bombed. Once the pin is pulled, Mr. Grenade is not our friend.

Support MOS' (careers) are still out there. I am no paper pusher.... I fix medical equipment. 68A. I stay up to date on equipment. Now in a field unit and in Iraq, no we have a lot of old ***** but in the hospitals we have some good stuff. So I would say I have some usefull skills and can use it when I get out......

I'm a 62B/63B, Construction and Wheeled equipment mechanic. I would gladly sit back in the shop and throw wrenches at the enemy, rather than be shot at daily... personal preferance. And as for civilian side. I could walk in to most any place that had diesel mechanics, and get a job with my skills. Been offered jobs at Freighliner, Cat, Peterbuilt, etc. I prefer working with people, and the difference on drill weekend is nice too. Don't want to do my civilian job in the military too, or vice versa.
