Wednesday afternoon a motorcyclist was fatally injured in a collision with a passenger car near 400 West St. George Blvd.
Douglas Scholes, 47 of Lehi, Utah was riding his motorcycle west on St. George Blvd when he began to overtake a slower car that was in the left lane of travel. Scholes began to change lanes, passing the car, at the same time that the car began to prepare to make a left turn onto 400 West from the left lane.
The motorcycle left skid marks in an attempt to avoid the car which turned into his lane, but struck the right rear quarter panel, locking the rear wheel of the car. The car turned onto 400 West with the motorcycle following, and Scholes was ejected onto the roadway where he sufferd injuries to his head. He was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center. Scholes was not wearing a helmet.
Two members of the St. George Police Department's accident investigation team responded and investigated the crash which appeared to have multiple contributing factors including speed and lane change violations.
