Hey DLIT when do you leave Korea?

Cause I'm headed there in March! I just checked VMPF and I have orders to the 51st MDG with an RNLTD of 10 March... I'm still kinda mixed about the whole thing... on one hand it's gonna be hard to break it to my girl... but then again... I can choose my follow on so I can finnally get to Seattle! with this news... I think I might extend my stay here in the Desert for another 4 months... miss as much of the AK winter as I can... but I still should be back before christmas. Man... another year my motorcycle is gonna sit in storage... I swear... good thing there isn't a MHS... (Motorcycle Humaine Society) cause they'd have taken my bike for sure!

Hmmm, I'm thinking that may be close to his date for leaving the ROK, but he may still be there. I was thinking he just got there in Feb or March, but not positive. :idk: Of course, he always has the option to extend for another year. I've known people to do that so they get their choice of stations.

It's going to be close. He got there in early March, about the same time you'll be getting there next year. http://www.twowheelforum.com/showthread.php?t=15686

I'm torn between Mcchord in Seattle or Somewhere in Colorado... gotta talk to my girl... not looking forward to break'n it to her. damn looks like I'll probably miss him... but then again... my DROS (Date to return from overseas) was 30 Jan... so maybe he won't leave till the end of March... :idk: I think I'm gonna extend over here till Dec. though... bank the extra for a house when I get back to the states...

When I was in, we got to select 8 places, but we didn't really have any priority for where we were going after the short tour. I knew where I was going before I ever left for Korea, though. If you didn't like your follow-on, you could extend for an extra year and THEN get your choice. But that was ten years ago, and if I know the military, they've changed about 3 times since then. Also, when I was in Korea, you had like a 30 day window for leaving, but you couldn't leave more than 3 or 4 days before you got there. I got there Jan 3 and left Jan 8 the following year. If you can stand being in the sandbox and don't have any real obligations (girlfriends don't count unless you've been with them for more than a year or two), then yeah, I'd say you'd be wise to stay there and bank that extra money since it's all tax-free. If you get a bonus for re-enlisting and you're close to your time, then make sure you re-up while you're in the sandbox or within the same month you leave because that is all tax-free too.

Almost not worth it. But, Ebbs, my RNLT for here was 10 March, so I'll be on my way out around the time you get here. But chances are I'll be here for a few days after you get here because my RNLT for Germany is 25 April '08.

Oh and about your girl. If you think she's the one, be possitive about the whole thing. Beat it into her that you WILL get through it. It's been 3 months now and we're still going strong. I got Vonage and we talk everyday. Usually more than once too. Not sure if you know how Vonage works, but they try to give you any US number you want. If it's not available, they'll give you one in your desired area code. Unlimited local and long distance, states only, for 25 bucks plus tax. Not bad at all.

I take home around 940 each pay day. I also have 160 in allotments (savings bonds and savings account) to factor in also. I'm an E5 in for 7 years. The COLA here usually hangs around 200 bucks. Give or take 10-15 bucks. You get BAS, but all but 40 of it is taken out for meal deduction...no matter how many times you go to the chow hall. You go once in a month? they're still taking out around 240 bucks.

I got mad respect for you guys in the service. I couldn't do that $#!T. The only problem I had was that it was too difficult to get into a long term relationship with all the moving around. If I'd been able to meet "the one", I may have gotten married. Now I feel too old to get married. But you never know, I might still be able to find the right one, but it's not looking promising.

True... but when I was splitting my rent all my bills added up to about 1100 so I was still coming out ahead... but yeah... all my bills will be completely paid off after this deployment... so I'll probably put 1000+ away a month... from looking at the housing market in Seattle I'm gonna need it!
