The new version of our forum software allows to use a points system to deal with members that do not adhere to forum rules. This is a different system from the Reputation Point System we've been using and it is completely unrelated.
With the Infraction Point System, violations are assigned a specific number of points. As these points add up, privileges are removed. The points have an expiration date, howwever.
For example, if you were to use inappropriate language you may be given two infraction points. At the end of ten days, these points expire and you go back to your previous level. This is somewhat similar to the points system some states use for drivers licenses.
The current points are:
Violation..................................Points............Expires After
Signature Rule Violation.................1.................10 Days
Commercial Posting.......................2.................10 Days
Advertising another forum..............2.................10 Days
Questioning a moderator action.......3.................10 Days
"Postwhoring"...............................2.................10 Days
Inappropriate Language/Photo/Link...2.................10 Days
Insulted Other Member(s)...............3.................10 Days
Multiple Accounts..........................4.................30 Days
After points are accumulated, privileges are removed:
Levels..........................................................Point Threshold
Moderation - All posts/threads are moderated........7
Can't post new threads, can reply to existing.........5
This system is highly customizable and will be changed as we tweak the system. This process serves as a replacement for time consuming emails our mods currently use and allows every member to know where they stand. And, if a member has infraction points, why they were received. The system allows the moderator to quote specifics (thread URLS etc) when the infraction is given.
The system also allows us to cite specific rules and give warnings, without adding points. Here as well, we can cite specific threads and provide detailed information.
Obviously, we hope we don't have a big need for this system, but inevitably it will come in handy and make the job of our volunteer moderators a little easier. And, at the same time, clear up confusion members may have when an incident takes place as well provide more consistency in moderating.
Enjoy the forums!
