How far can you ride on a full tank of gas?kayaker 07-20-2004, 06:43 AM Just curious what everyone else is gettting on a full tank. I just haven't tried. ShanMan14 07-20-2004, 08:02 AM 143 miles before the light flashes. Yerf Dog 07-20-2004, 09:47 AM Around 150. :) jetskifast 07-20-2004, 10:12 PM 170 freeway miles light flashes on K1200RS. Could go maybe 200 before running out. ZX7RRPimp 07-21-2004, 09:29 AM if you're riding your sportbike like it should be...110-120! ShanMan14 07-21-2004, 09:39 AM 170 freeway miles light flashes on K1200RS. Interestingly, on my Zook it doesn't matter if I'm doing city or highway miles, I get the same mileage. Need4Speed 07-21-2004, 06:46 PM My 1983 Yamaha Maxim, 650 with a 900 kit, only gets about 80 miles to a tank..i ride it hard, granted, but that mileage really sux...the new Kat 750, should get about 30 normal ride, and close to 40 on highway...i remember when it costs me less than 4 bucks to fill the tank, on reserve, now its close to 6...UGH.. jetskifast 07-21-2004, 08:36 PM Interestingly, on my Zook it doesn't matter if I'm doing city or highway miles, I get the same mileage.
With out getting on gas much, K1200RS gets about 32 MPG of combined freeway, city driving.
On trips of all freeway riding, I get 40-42 MPG at 70 plus speeds. 14funs750 07-29-2004, 06:30 PM On my 02 Gsxr 750 the light goes on at 160-170 .I have pushed it to 188 before I got gas to and from work. On my day's off about 110 before the light goes on. ShanMan14 07-30-2004, 02:05 PM I've got 180 kilometers on this tank and the light went on yesterday :bonk: . I should be good for another 50 before it comes on, hope something isn't wrong. :nonod: Need4Speed 07-30-2004, 03:49 PM I've got 180 kilometers on this tank and the light went on yesterday :bonk: . Alot of your gas mileage depends of course on how your riding, and what kind you are doing..assuming your ride is mechanically sound as far as you know. My buddy has a 2000 Gixxer750..and he got 100 miles on it, and his light came on! I was like, WTF!! talk about hitting it hard between the stop lights
Im still not that confident in my gage on my kat...im used to following the trip odometer..lol...but i ran it down till it was just touching "E" and it finally came on..the dealer said the tank will usually read alittle less than what you actually have, but not sure I'll take his word for it just yet. :) bumblebee 10-13-2004, 01:33 AM I get about 150 miles before the reserve bars appear on my '04 F4i Becca_007 10-13-2004, 07:21 AM My 1983 Yamaha Maxim, 650 with a 900 kit, only gets about 80 miles to a tank..i ride it hard, granted, but that mileage really sux...
I hear you there. Riding easy and with another rider I pushed it to almost 100 miles when I was first riding. Now I try to put gas in every 50 miles or so. No damn gauge so I'm paranoid about running out. Plus, if you fill the darn thing you end up wearing most of it so I fill it less but more often. Man I can't wait to get a new bike. This one has taught me well, but I miss the luxuries that 'newness' can offer. GSXR1000DJ 10-13-2004, 10:47 AM Now that I have had the bike for a while, I have riden it hard and normal to see what I am getting as for gas milage. I get 120-130 when riden normal and around 100-110 riden hard. Not to bad but I had bikes before that got great milage. Heath3n 10-13-2004, 11:14 AM Doesn't seem to matter how I ride. I start getting the blinky blink between 165-175 miles. kanwisch 10-13-2004, 11:17 AM With a bike as old as mine, I've had some no-gas stops, thanks to an internal issue I got worked out.
Anyway, I get 50mpg on mine, which is mostly straight country roads. That's about 140mi to Reserve. Mudpuppy 10-13-2004, 11:19 AM My low fuel light comes on around 155 miles but I have rode it 30 miles more than that without running out. Depends alot on freeway miles - long trip or short dashes at high speeds on freeway and mixed in with stop and go city driving. Need4Speed 10-13-2004, 11:37 AM more bikes should have that indicator that kicks in and tells u how many miles u've driven when you flip it on reserve.!! No Worries 10-13-2004, 03:59 PM 200 miles till reserve on my CBR 1000, then 32.9 miles. And I never want to do that again. :D fatburg 10-13-2004, 04:31 PM Right at 200mi until reserve, I get about 50mpg during the week commuting, around 45mpg on the weekends it seems pickle.of.doom 10-13-2004, 06:44 PM With my big ol' twin I get about 115-125 til the light pops on... Well when my R6 goes into low fuel mode it starts counting upwards like a trip odometer that way you know how far you have gone on low fuel - it is the next best thing to a gas gauge which most of those are less accurate anyways. Need4Speed 10-13-2004, 10:56 PM yeah, thats what im talkin about :iagree:..once I hit the red part of my gauge, i get gas, just to be safe..i ran it down into reserve before, and sputtered into the gas station..never again! :cursin: pickle.of.doom 10-14-2004, 11:05 AM So, what do you all like better? The older petcock style, where ya run out and then flip your switch for reserve, or the newer way of having a low fuel light? Need4Speed 10-14-2004, 11:12 AM no fuel light here..just a gauge ;) ...but on my yamaha, once you get down pat, how far you can get on a tank, just watched the odometer and I was good to go, except when I forgot to reset it to all 0's  Mudpuppy 10-14-2004, 11:21 AM So, what do you all like better? Definately the low fuel light. My old enduro had the older petcock and it never worked. I ran out of gas on that foucker like 6 times - it had no trip odometer. Never knew how much gas you did or didn't have. kanwisch 10-14-2004, 12:41 PM Definately the low fuel light. My old enduro had the older petcock and it never worked. I ran out of gas on that foucker like 6 times - it had no trip odometer. Never knew how much gas you did or didn't have. That actually happened to me more than once before figuring out that the issue was a partially clogged screen inside the tank that prevented particles from flowing into the petcock. The screen was plugged up to the point of the "On" part, so there was effectively no "Reserve". Very frustrating to figure out. Gas Man 10-14-2004, 03:52 PM My right side up forked bike has a good ole petcock/reserve tank. When it starts to sputter, you go for the percock. 3.8Gal (135-145mi) in normal tank and 1Gal (another 30mi)in reserve. Never had a problem with it, but it would be nicer to have a light even nicer for a gauge!! No Worries 10-14-2004, 06:06 PM Two of my bikes (Suzuki and Honda) have gas gauges. They are both wildly pessimistic. Both read empty at about a half tank of gas. Both have petcocks and trip odometers. The Suzuki has a "prime" setting, where gas just flows into the carb. I wish my Honda had that. When I ran out of gas with the Honda, I switched to reserve too late. Because of the vacuum petcock, it took about five minutes of engine cranking before the floats filled with gas. stevnmd 10-14-2004, 09:23 PM Depends on how I'm riding. Tight twisties like down around Deal's Gap, I'll get about 115 - 120 before the low fuel light comes on. Normal riding around my area in MD, I get about 130. Highway (which I avoid at all costs, but occasionally have to ride) I'll get about 150... | |
