neebelung 06-25-2007, 10:27 PM Ok, so the idea has been tossed about the "Girls in leather are HAWT!" thread quite a bit, and there seems to be some interest... However, IF (big if, seeing as it's pending Shan's approval) there was to be such a thing, we'd have to get moving on it, and quickly, if we wanted it to be a 2008 calendar.
So first things first, some possibly guidelines:
- In order to prevent the B.S. that accompanied the ad contest, I think there'd have to be some requirements, i.e. "Member since....." and post-count minimums. Also, since we have so many hot ladies that are members of this forum, it might have to be limited to them (and just GF's/wives of members).
Then there's the lineup:
- Ummmm... so we have: (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER... just rattling off names as they pop into my head)
RaeRR
Pippi
ItGirl
Devilstonic
1HBC
Neebs
Katherine
JustPucky
Melime
Psychochild (sorry!!!!!!!)
Twinkies
Accaliste
Becca_007
Who else...
Brie?
DJNyteblast?
Princess_Rider?
In any case, we've easily got 12 ladies (assuming a couple might not be up for being recruited for this project)... and we can always do a collage for the month of December so as to include a few more than 12 ladies.
- I think in order to avoid the drama like we witnessed with the TWF ad, we'd let the mod team be the 'voters'... and PRIVATELY (though voting would only become necessary if there were lots more than 12 ladies interested in participating).
- And of course, Mod Team would have ultimate approval over the pictures, and the final layout, since the goal is to raise money for the site, right?
Other thoughts...
- The best route to go with a project like this is for us to submit the photos to one (or a couple) of people who are talented with Photoshop (Twinkies, you came to mind.... :) ), so they can layer in the month, the screenname, and any bio info.
Then submit the prepared layouts to Cafepress. They'll print and process calendars by the piece/as ordered for about $14.95/each. If we want to make money for the site, we tack on, let's say, $5/each, with that $5 going directly to the site.
By using a site like Cafepress, we eliminate the need for minimums (this is what kept the calendar on another site from getting off the ground -- they never made minimum), and no one here has to bother with warehousing or shipping them. We might pay a little bit more per calendar, but the convenience makes it worthwhile.
- IF we're going to do this, we have to act quickly... ideally a 2008 calendar should be available for shipping by September, which means we would need to set a hypothetical photo submission date of about August 1st. That's not much time, in reality....
- As for layout, I think a double-pic/split-pane layout would be great... one shot in gear (i.e. riding, posing, at the track, etc...) and the second shot could be whatever the lady likes -- whether it's sexy, just normal in street clothes, etc... whatever... but one shot should definitely represent her as a rider.
SOOOOOO... feedback? Questions? Comments? Shan????

I don't think that's fair or sensible. There are members like myself with 1000 posts that only joined a month ago, and there are first 1000 members that only have less than 10 posts and haven't been on here in a couple years. That doesn't make sense to me as a requirement.
Either letting just the mods do it, like nee said, or members with some significant post count, would probably make sense.
Or if you did want to allow everyone to vote, you could just use a join date as a cutoff. Like before this past contest...

Understandable. Still not sure if it's possible to even program into the software, though.
OneSickPsycho 06-25-2007, 11:03 PM So we only had 4 women willing to pose for the magazine contest and we are concerned about who's going to vote in the 12 women who are supposedly going to be in the calender?
TaintedLove 06-25-2007, 11:03 PM Well I guess it would be up to the ladies as to who wants to be in it. There are 16 and 18 month calendars so voting may not be necessary? If not I would say maybe let members with at least 50 posts and a join date of before the polling starts to vote?
PlayfulGod 06-25-2007, 11:04 PM 50? I seen some of the original 1000 (which I still aint seen on) with that or less
devilstonic 06-25-2007, 11:23 PM I'm down for this...I agree that cafe press is the best way to go, that's what was used for the local calendar i'm involved in.
As far as voting, wait and see how many women are interested in this, if we have more than 12, do an 18 month calendar. If we have more than 18 then go to voting.
I believe with the forum software, private forums can be created and anyone to be involved in the voting can be given access to that forum. None of the rest of us can see it.
Like with the 2WT contest, I think that all participants should be active members of the board to participate. Additionally, seeing as how Shan is putting up ads on the board, maybe we could get some sponsors and put a few ads in the calendar itself? This would help bring the cost of the calendars down just a bit and maybe we can sell more of them.
Just a thought.
itgirl25 06-25-2007, 11:43 PM i'm up for whatever. i already have my 4 gear pics i can submit. as far as a casual pic...well that would be back to the drawing board for me, more pics would be needed. :( i vote for just bike related pics, we can show our other interests in the bio section you spoke of.

neebelung 06-26-2007, 06:48 AM Another idea for voting would be to only let first 1000 members vote, but I don't know if that's possible to program into the system. :idk:
Nope. Any sort of public voting system will turn into another TWF add drama. Not to mention a LOT of the "First 1000" aren't active any longer, and many of the most active and long-standing members aren't part of that elite 1000. :idk:
Will cafepress allow a pic for each month? There is always a 16 month option.
zazzle has them too
http://www.zazzle.com/custom/calendars
Yes, Cafepress allows for a different pic each month. The problem with attempting a 16-month (which is one of the mistakes they made with the failed calendar I referred to) is we're too late in the game to get it going now. A 16-month calendar would begin in September 07, and there's simply not enough time.
Again, I don't think ANY sort of public vote is a good idea. People will get their panties in a wad.
We have a great Mod Team here, and I think since this project would be for the benefit of the site, we could entrust it to them to 'choose wisely.' :dthumb:
neebelung 06-26-2007, 06:51 AM So we only had 4 women willing to pose for the magazine contest and we are concerned about who's going to vote in the 12 women who are supposedly going to be in the calender?
See, this further lends itself to my theory about a public vote being part of the problem...
Also, the TWF ad is a MUCH larger scale undertaking -- it's a national magazine, much larger audience. Personally, I just didn't want to be in it, so I didn't enter. :idk: A calendar will pretty much just be sold to the members of this forum. Smaller audience = less worry.
Well I guess it would be up to the ladies as to who wants to be in it. There are 16 and 18 month calendars so voting may not be necessary? If not I would say maybe let members with at least 50 posts and a join date of before the polling starts to vote?
See my post above... If we're going to attempt a 16 or 18 month calendar, we might as well put it off till 2008-2009.

I'm gonna come right out and say what everyone's thinking: I think if you expressed interest in being a part of this calendar, the project would be dead in the water, or you'd be voted out before you even sent in pics. Now, please, stop trying to bring that drama into this thread (your very pointed questions are transparent) and let us move on.

:iagree: :withstupi LET IT GO. Goodness, you only come here to bicker now. This is a great idea that we have come up with, let it be. Nee has worked hard on this and you need to stop post whoring and let her express this idea! Goodness!
neebelung 06-26-2007, 07:41 AM - Another mistake I think the other (failed) calendar made was that they "previewed" each month after the (guy who was doing the graphics) did his thing. He posted them up GIANT, so really, what's to stop someone with a printer from just printing them all out themself? :idk: Also, it kinda killed the mystery, the anticipation... so I say NO pics (not even previews of what's being submitted) be posted ahead of time, so it's a total surprise when it comes out.
- Also, Twinkies has gathered some info from Zazzle, and it looks like they function very similarly to Cafepress, but their layout looks even better, and there's more options for size, binding, etc... it might be a LITTLE more expensive per piece, but it's an option.
Drama was created by members here and this has kept the mods busy

1hottbikechic 06-26-2007, 07:57 AM I like Nee's idea of no previews. Let everyone be suprised at what its goin to look like. I think since we are all looking forward to it already, it should be a surprise!
neebelung 06-26-2007, 07:58 AM - Twinks had another good idea: Zazzle will allow us to put specific events on the calendar, i.e. the 2008 TWF Rally. :dthumb:
We could also add other bike related events like Bike Week, Biketoberfest, Laguna Seca, Daytona 200, etc.....

This is a good idea as well! That way people can plan ahead to attend different things maybe seein it on the calendar (like me) will help have it all organized in the year!
ShanMan14 06-26-2007, 08:09 AM Obviously, we already have an account with CafePress so adding a calendar to the store is something I could do. I added it to the store and used a couple of images to test. We will need HI-RESOLUTION images or it appears too small. I'd show you, but it won't appear until I fill all 12 months with images.
As far as who is in it and how they're chosen... After what happened with the magazine contest I am not willing to run another contest like that at this time. It starts off fun, then some unforseen circumstance occurs and I'm holding a mess to clean up. Despite that dismal outlook, I will not quash the calendar idea altogether, in fact I will support it. However....
Do we have 12 women willing to be featured in a calendar? We've had less than 10 the last two years that were willing to be in a magazine. :idk:
If the answer is yes, then I suggest willing participants submit their images to me directly. From there no one but the mod team will pick and choose the layout. The Vbulletin software isn't setup for official voting giving me options to limit factors such as membership, posts, whether someone rides etc.
Individual members who submit their image to me will get that image in the calendar. If there are more than 12 members who submit images, the mods will decide who gets in. If members can't decide which photo of theirs to submit, then they can post their favorites in a thread, submit input from the rest of the members and make that determination on their own. And, as soon as any negative comments come out in these threads, the thread will be deleted and offending members given infraction points.
Sounds harsh, but if anyone had a clue as to the amount of PM's and emails out mod team had to deal with on the last contest, this is going to be a necessity: no tolerance for attacks.
Also, I will superimpose the TWF logo in the images so it appears each month. It will be small and tasteful, of course. Wearing TWF gear in the images would be strongly encouraged.
That's my take, if you want TWF to handle it. I'd be willing with those ground rules.

I think this is fair grounds after the fiasco we had (and are still having) with the magazine. I think that if we have girls submit pics in TWF gear its not necessarily posing practically naked in them. We have seen alot of great pictures of girls with their bikes and gear as well as magazine pics. I don't personally think it needs to be all bikinis, although they are appealing to look at, if it's not I think there will be no problem getting 12 girls interested!
Rider 06-26-2007, 08:16 AM If you have more than 12 interested, instead of a vote to decide what 12 are in, you could do an 18 month calendar. I've seen them before. :dthumb:
No Katherine, no Sara Walker or Black-Mamba & family…. what's an old :lhump: supposed to do:cry:
I see what ya'lls tryin ta'do to me....:nkick: I'm hurt real deep down inside.

 Keep reading....
Besides, I truly think the odds of having more than 12 INTERESTED, REAL (as in particpating, valuable, non-drama monger) female members is a small chance... if we do, then we can always push the project out a year to be a 2008-2009 calendar instead.
neebelung 06-26-2007, 08:21 AM Obviously, we already have an account with CafePress so adding a calendar to the store is something I could do.
:idk:

 OUTSTANDING... I totally, 150% agree with everything said.
I seriously think we could get 12 ladies... The ad thing was a totally different matter, as I said larger scale, and the vote thing might have been a deterrent. By handling it as you've said above, I think it might allay some of the fears members had about entering the contest.

:iagree: :withstupi I was saying before that IF you wanted to do a public vote, it COULD work if you went through the pains to set it up right, but still would be a hassle. This setup is what I would think would work the best, produce the least amount of gripes (ahem), and provide a great product.
AND I think keeping it all behind closed doors until they are sold will increase your sales!! So maybe even making it so that no one sees the photos beforehand (ie public opinions on which photo to use, etc) might work even better, and then you also wouldn't have to worry about negative opinions and people hassling others again... just a thought.
I'm certainly anxious to get one already :tt:
And really, :twfrox:!!!
PlayfulGod 06-26-2007, 09:10 AM I think what Shan has said sounds good. I think zazzle should still be considered as it allows my options n a more functional calender to boot:2cents: I think what you gurls have planned far as photoshop etc should be allowed too but with Shans & the mod teams guidance. :2cents:

:iagree: Right, like we submit the pics to Shan/Mods for initial approval/selection, then once the 12 are picked, we send them to Twink for her to PS in the month, the bio info, the screenname, etc... then back to Shan for a final stamp of approval (he could even send the TWF logo artwork to Twink so she could PS that in in the process), and then VOILA, we've got a calendar!

That would totally work. If we have to use cafe press I could Add dates etc to the pictures so it would just show on the photo page. That wouldnt be hard to do either!
GSXRGirl 06-26-2007, 09:26 AM I'm gonna come right out and say what everyone's thinking: I think if you expressed interest in being a part of this calendar, the project would be dead in the water, or you'd be voted out before you even sent in pics. Sorry, but you're the reason the TWF ad contest went to hell in a handbasket. :sorry:
Now, please, stop trying to bring that drama into this thread (your very pointed questions are transparent) and let us move on.
:leaving:
So say how you really feel. Way to treat a fellow member.
You are the one who felt the need to bring the ad up several times in this thread. You could have left it out and there would be no drama. I did nothing, but enter a contest becuase I love riding. What happened from there was fuel by members here joining there and just bad mounthing me and the forum. If my friends promoted me that is what they did. I stayed out of the threads on both foums and let happend what was going to happen. AGAIN IS IT ANY DIFFERENT to promte ypur self by e-mail or my space or whatever. So what I was promoted on an open forum. The only reason there was drama is because I am a member if Both forums. But what you and the few other members who keep this in the light keep forgetting is 1HBC is also a member there and her friends asked for votes there. The contest was promted over there last year too.
BTW I can express interest in what ever I want. I ride track which requires leathers, so if I wanted to submit a photo I can. This is an open forum and you can not stop me from submitting a picture. If the mods or the members chosse not to use it then fine.
I am not trying to bring trama to this thread. What I want is for people to treat all membes fair.
Phenix_Rider 06-26-2007, 09:27 AM This is a good idea as well! That way people can plan ahead to attend different things maybe seein it on the calendar (like me) will help have it all organized in the year!

SHAN TO THE RESCUE!!!
GSXRGirl 06-26-2007, 09:30 AM I have stayed out of this mess and been nice to you up to this point, but are you just trying to start more arguments here? No need to feed the fire, there has been enough bullchit. Nee is trying to avoid all that mess and hostility again, applaud her efforts instead of hanging onto old gripes. If you're going to be perpetually sour about TWF, then don't come to it anymore. :2cents:
Well, here we go again...:idk:
I know you have been one who has not been harassing me and I appreciate that:thx1:
If Nee was trying to avoid the mess she would have left the contest out of this thread. She has admitted in this thread she does not want me to show interest in her idea.

No one said you couldnt. but the dayum ad contest is OVER so drop it. Carry on like a adult n stop being bitter and making snide comments here n there n then get all defensive when someone calls you on it. Dayum is it that hard?

Since it was a 2006 calendar, they don't have the whole calendar available to view on there anymore, but here's what the pages and other products looked like (there's no need to put the actual month on the picture):

GSXRGirl 06-26-2007, 09:38 AM oh GSXRGirl GTFU n drop it already and stop trying to start more sh*t. geez If you dont like it here :wtf: you here? Yes you have also been nice and I :thx1and
And FWIW no one has been banned. This is proof roumors here spead without knowledge of the true situation.
If you saw the harassament in PM's and in the reps you would understand why I am the way I am. I tired to drop it but I am followed around the forum everywhere I post, just so they can call me a bITCH or a cheater.

Lets not make it a contest , but more of a tribute to all of our HOTTIES. I'll pay even if its not a calendar if it goes to help the forum!:luck:

Screenname
First name
City, State
Age
Bike
And maybe just a little personal blurb of their choice... either their advice for newbie riders, or how they got into riding, their favorite KIND of riding (street, dirt, track, touring, etc...).... But something riding related, just to keep it relevant.
