Your opinion on the SV

I have the first year SV650. Since then, Suzuki has redesigned them and added a 1K to the lineup. Personally, I don't care for the new squared off look, I like the "mini-TL" styling it used to have. Anyone else agree?

the new square off, more aggressive look isnt too bad..u knew it had to come about sometime. the people that i've talked to that have one, say they really like the power of it, and since its basically the same style of bike..the ergos are pretty much the same too

Anyone else agree? I had a TLS and it was the best bike I ever owned. The SV is a great bike no matter what your skill lever is. I thinking about picking on up to the small V-twin classes with. And yes the older style is much better looking :dthumb:

i have a 2002 naked SV (pre angular) and love it. could use suspension work, but works fine for commuting without it. i get alot of "Is that a Buell?" from the harley crowd, but it lets me explain exactly what it is and the benefits of it being liquid cooled. :) though i do wish it had the EFI of the 03 and newer...they kinda have a tuner body kit look now. i think the 02's a keeper. good power good weight good character good fun

I was never much for the SV's...but I loved Twisty's old TLS...it was a berly beast with a exhaust that would never be silenced by any sport bike!!!

I like the newer styling looks, but more imporantly do appreciate the FI. Another consideration for me currently is the 600R, which is carbed, and that's a pretty big minus for me. Cleaning those things is far from fun :(

The new look isn't bad, I just prefer the old look. One thing I wish my bike had is the EFI, I've already had the carbs cleaned once at great expense (not that problematic FI are cheap to repair).

Yeah it was real loud.. That is the under statement of the year...I couldn't hear myself think and I was 6 bikes back and about 1/4 mi!!!

in person the bike doesnt look that square. My friend has a 04 650 and its a nice bike to ride... power in any rpm range... i had a 2 Cyl beofre the Z1000 so for peak power the SV cant evne compare... but that lesser power is also why in a 1/8th a mi its a fairly close race between us... i cant keep my wheel low enough to continue to accelerate when im pulling as hard as him,..... i pull right with him but my wheels going higher and higher... his next bike might be a SV1000 cuz hes really into the Twins.. and i dont blame em i love twins as well, just doesnt have the all out speed potential of a 4 Cyl literbike. If i lived in the city where i couldnt get to open rode much id prob have got the SV1000, that and Suzuki sucks for insurance.. gotta carry full coverage where Kawi will let ya carry PL/PD.. which is good when your 21 cuz full cov was 4,500$ a year versus 437$ a year for PL/PD.... that would buy my Z in 2 years to have gone Suzuki.... i guess when i cna pay cash for a bike or get a 500 or less full coverage quote ill think aobut a suzuki.

I have a 03 SV and I like the new look myself. The LED tail lights look alot better on the newer bikes. It performs pretty good too. Last month my buddy bought a Katana 750 and threw the 1/4 mile and shorter I can beat him. Anything more than 1/4 he beats me. So I just ordered a Two Brothers Racing X-Metal exhaust, Power Commander III Usb, GSXR1000 rear shock, and a K&N breather for starters. These items should help out my performance for now. I am in the process of turning my SV into a Streetfighter. I will be changing out my headlight and mirrors first and then adding a belly pan etc.

the K&N PC3 and Exhaust will really open the top end up for ya a lot... id say if the 750 kat is stock.. youll run side by side for well over a 1/4... irght now a stock SV650 is topping bout 138-142 i beleive according to my friends bike, And with a Twin the exhaust should really give ya more top above anything else.. my 500 went form topping aobut 123 to over 145 with Exhaust, smog removal, airbox removal and independant filters.....23mph increase on a 500 so the SV650 should see at least as big of a gain. my 500 only tops at 145 due to gearing too.....its still pulling strong when it tachs.. i may gear it up when the Ti sprocket wears out... if the motor dont first... that sprockets bulletproof.

oh yeah and hte EX500 has some custom jetting on it. so basically smae mods as long as u mod the airbox as well as the filter...the airbox mod makes a big diff to just take out the noise restriction BS on it, the whole box would be a lil more of a task on the SV as well as the fact ud have to have soemone custom map the SV for ya then and then a GOOD custom map may cost close to as much as the PC3

(In reference to your avatar) :) I'm with you on the LED tail lights, much nicer looking.

Be sure to take some pics of it as you install these mods as well!! :dthumb:

I will post pics when it warms up and I can get my bike out of the garage to take some updated ones. My parts suppose to be here friday, but they are my x-mas presents that I bought for myself so I can't have then until x-mas. As for the 750 Kat. it has been jetted and has a full yoshi. exhaust on it. Alot had to do with the rider in this case. I like the low end that I have now. With the extra H.P. that I will be gaining from the mods, I will probably re-sprocket for a little more topend. My stock SV will only top out at 133 right now. I have read up on snorkelectomy on my SV. But PC3 probably won't be able to adjust for the extra air flow. Here's a link to the instruction on snorkelectomy. http://www.geocities.com/catpoopman/sv650_snorkel.html And for my short legged little buddy in my avatar, Santa is bringing his first gas powder mini ATV 4-wheeler. Now he can ride his own 4-wheeler with his big brother and me. :dthumb:
