Mosh Pits

So....I went to see Marilyn Manson last night w/ Slayer opening up. I was a little dissapointed because Slayer ended up playing like a 2 hour set, Manson was only on stage for an hour!! Probably the shortest time Ive seen him play in the 10 yrs+ I've been going to his shows. Of course when I get there, Bleeding Through had already played (totally missed them) and I found out while walking in there, I could of brought my camera. Probably a good thing I DIDNT because I was in the pit the entire show. SO now that leads me to my topic. As with everything in life there comes a certain TECHNIQUE. There has to be or things become totally chaotic. Where the F*** did people learn how to mosh around this town?? Better yet, where they learn how to SURF? You don't go around kicking people in the face at random while your in the air. Probably not a good idea, esp when you kick ME in the face, and some 6'5 300+ pound guy that's all muscle happens to witness it. (insert laughing devil face here). So about that time, after being in a pit of 1000's of sweaty, smelly people..I had enough. Time to fight back. SO I had a group of about 20+ guys surrounding me, all of which wanted to fight for prime spot, front row. Place was packed...probably no more than an inch between people. Standing room only, there were NO seats..and concrete floors (gotta love that). Manson opens w/ "If I was your Vampire" and the crowd just absolutely loses themselves. Place is nutts. AS a matter of fact, the place wasn't even that crazy when Slayer was on. We had surfing in about 5 different directions for Manson. :idk: :yikes: So....the guys are like "ready little missy" and I said "lets go". So here I am, 5'3", sandwiched in between I don't know how many guys, and we all PUSH as hard as we can forward. I'm thinking..."look out, here comes the Navy ;)" Also..."Mooooooove B**** get out da way" haha. I got pretty close..but had to turn around because it became a heat infested pile of sweaty bodies..which I couldn't take. People were just stepping on everyone, letting other ppl drop to the concrete with no care in the world. Granted, I love Manson..but I'm going to die for the F******!! When it's 90+ in a venue that is outside..a million and one people touching you regardless of wanting to be 'touched'...add the humidity index to that, plus alcohol, pot and whatever else ppl are on=NOT GOOD. lol. I was proud of myself though..I held my own..which the guys said pretty much for a little (meaning short) girl I packed a big punch. So how does everyone here handle mosh pits at shows? What's it like for you? Let's continue this thread for those who have rocked their a$$ off to a show. What show was it? See any blood? I know I did. That poor bastard that kicked me in the face got my 5 in claws in his face. DAMN! Poor F'r!! hah. OH and just my :2cents: I honestly think this was probably Manson's LAST concert. If he always played at a venue that never allowed camera's before, and now all of a sudden plays at one that allows it..that's not a good sign!:cursin: Let's face it..hes been doing this for quite sometime. I honestly think after seeing him last nite, and only playing for an HOUR..I totally believe he's burnt out!! Honestly I can't blame him one bit if it's over after this tour. So all you "mansonites" that can go see him play..DO IT NOW!! Awesome show...Energy like you wouldn't believe!! I'm still freakin half deaf LOL!!!:yaewn:

Don't get me wrong..I like Slayer..but LIVE, the songs all sounded the same! I gotta give em' credit for the length of time they played though. Well when I was younger I went to so many concerts I can't even remember all of them but a short list of the ones I remember and those that had good pits were Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Gwar, Mr. Bungle, Obituary, Slayer, White Zombie. Gwar by far had to be my favorite concert ever I also learned not to wear a white shirt to their shows....... And now for the weirdest a friend of mine talked me into going to They Might Be Giants that was the weirdest "pit" ever everyone just jumping up and down I'm like WTF.

It's been a while since I've been in the pit... I found that I enjoyed the show much better when I am watching it... However, when there's a band that sucks on stage I generally get in the mix. Good pitting is a lost art. Back in the day there was a certain unspoken rule for how to conduct yourself. The point was not necessarily to hurt people, but rather take out your aggression on the concert society for that particular evening. Now there's a bunch of pussies in there throwin' 'bows and kicking people... WTF is up with that? I can take some stray punches and whatnot, that's just part of the game, but elbows and kicks to my luggage? :wtf: My worst pit experience was by far at a local punk show back when I was in HS. If you've ever been to a punk show, the pits there are generally filled with the biggest pussies ever. All they do is kick... That's it... Just kicking. Is that fun? So me and my boys are all metal heads and aimed to take apart this pit... and did pretty well. 4 of us successfully dominated 40 or so candy-ass mofo's over the course of one song... All shoving, no blows were being thrown... Then they got smart and teamed up... I faired the worst out of everyone, getting kicked from behind square in the nuts, then kicked in my shins and knees, and while I was on the floor... some vagina-clad douchebag kicked me in the face. LUCKILY another buddy saw this from outside of the pit and grabbed that little turd and smashed his head off the concrete a few times. (thanks Joe!) The last concert I went to was a Pearl Jam Concert about 9 years ago. We had front row seats. You couldn't pay me enough to go near the pit. Kids were spraying pepper spray in the air among other stuff. I think I have gotten too old. I did see warrant after that at a smaller venue which was just awesome. I am too old and bitchy to handle all the nonsense anymore :idk:

I've never been a fan of the mosh pits. Mainly becuase there always has to be that dumbass who has to over do it. And then you are fighting and everyone else joins in and you're going home with a bloody nose, black eye and pain all over your body. If you could manage to get it I'd think it would be funny to do a mosh pit and when it starts to get out of control (Which it will shortly) take a shot of epinephrin and just go to town.

The last pit I was in was at the Primus show, and it was pretty tame. Everyone was too f'ed up to do any damage. I agreee with OSP, if I really want to watch a show, I get as far away from the pit as possible. If I don't give a crap about the band, I'll probably jump right in.

The best pit i was in was watching Hatebreed at a punk/metal festival in belgium. It was full of hardcore british punks, ***** belgians, and about 15 of us US soldiers. The were 3 HUGE circle pits going on that collidied with each other it was awesome

I was a festival and i was drunk so i would have listened to almost anything, well i can't say anything because coheed incambria or however u spell it was there and i wanted kill myself as soon as they started playing.
