Have a great time (and take lots of pics!!!) Trip 08-06-2007, 08:17 AM Don't go is my recommendation.
Charleston was much nicer or Hilton Head. neebelung 08-06-2007, 08:25 AM Charleston was much nicer or Hilton Head.
Eh, I gotta agree with that... (and Katherine could give you some good recommendations in Charleston). byron12 08-06-2007, 08:31 AM Don't go is my recommendation.

I recommend nags head in the outerbanks very nice. Hilton head can suck my nuts with their lame high rises and snooty boutiques. Myrtle beach is not kid friendly at all imo. Cruising the strip is fun though even after my roomates 67 mustang overheated in front of hog charlies or whatever the drunk harley pub is called..:idk: myrtle beach is for drunkin partying and people will try to sell you drugs in front of your kids there are much prettier and quieter beaches that I would think are better....:2cents: byron12 08-06-2007, 08:42 AM S.C. Teen Falls 6 Stories, Walks Away
By Associated Press

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - A teenager fell six stories from a hotel balcony but walked away with just bruises and scrapes.
Matthew Savage, 17, was reaching up to a balcony one floor above to grab a bathing suit that had fluttered down from the 11th floor when he tumbled over the railing Friday.
The teen, from Gainesville, Ga., hit other balconies on his way down and slammed onto a slanted rooftop, then slid into bushes.
"I just closed my eyes," Savage said, nursing scrapes and bruises on his back and legs.
After landing in the bushes, he got up and started walking back to his room. But paramedics strapped him to a board and flew him to a hospital, where tests showed he was fine.
"This was a 'God is real' event," his sister, Mandy Baker, said. mvp622 08-06-2007, 09:15 AM First off there is a reason Myrtle is called the redneck riviera. If your single and want to party go to myrtle. If you want a relaxed vacation in a pretty area choose some of the other beaches in SC or NC. However your kids will have fun in myrtle there is a ton of stuff to do. Have fun! Trip 08-06-2007, 09:15 AM I recommend nags head in the outerbanks very nice. Outer Banks is nice too. Myrtle Beach is more of a redneck dump than anything. That place sucks. byron12 08-06-2007, 09:17 AM Outer Banks is nice too. Myrtle Beach is more of a redneck dump than anything. That place sucks.
:iagree: fun to get drunk and catch a horsey vd from time to time though. GSXRGirl 08-06-2007, 09:21 AM Hope you have fun itgirl!
Sorry I can not help I have never been to myrtle beach.

Any recommended places in Charleston? Katherine 08-06-2007, 09:23 AM itgirl, there is so much to do in MB. It just depends how you want to spend your days and money. Everything cost money there! There are waterparks, beaches, putput, Ripley's etc. Just outside of MB, there is a really neat plantation. Myrtle Beach is like one big amusement park for adults and kids so you guys can't get bored. neebelung 08-06-2007, 09:26 AM Any recommended places in Charleston?
The aquarium is really cool. If you've been to the Tennessee Aquarium, it's done in the same format (different types of native SC aquatic life). It's smaller than the TN or GA aquarium (more of a half-day kinda thing than an all-day), but still really cool.
And if you like seafood, Hyman's is incredibly good. I ate things there I never imagined I'd like (shrimp 'n grits, crab-stuffed baked potato, and the best Bloody Mary you've ever sipped).
(I've only been there a few times, and always for work, so that's the extent of my Charleston knowledge :dthumb: ) Katherine 08-06-2007, 09:27 AM [COLOR="Blue"][FONT="Comic Sans MS"]Any recommended places in Charleston?
Middleton Plantation is a must. Its expensive but worth the $ to see the place. Just don't buy the house tour. Its not worth it.
Cypress Gardens is also a must. Its a really neat park with a reptile zoo, butterfly house, and canoes to float around in. Its not that costly.
There are some neat ghost walks, ferry tours, aerial tours, etc. Also there's an old battleship you can crawl around in.
If you come to town, PM me. I can either show you around or point you in the right direction. byron12 08-06-2007, 09:28 AM Hope you have fun itgirl!

Any recommended places in Charleston?
I don't know about everybody elses interest in ships but the yorktown and others are cool. So is sullivans island and of course fort sumter. charleston has a beautiful river front the gibbs museum is very cool and the citadel is worth checking out its not bad if your not one of its unfortunate students. I like charleston for the rich history. I am a bit of a history buff. Trip 08-06-2007, 09:56 AM Any recommended places in Charleston?
Katherine lives there, she would know a lot more than me. When I went I stayed in some really fancy beach house my fiance's boss owns on Sullivans Island. Beach access was pretty secluded and it was not crowded at all and it was a completely uncommercialized beach. Walking distance to historic Fort Moultrie and could see Fort Sumter off in the distance. I explored both and Patriot Point was a lot of fun. I am a history buff so that type of vacation is more my speed than getting drunk in a bar. Real easy drive to a very beautiful downtown and walked up and down Rainbow Row. I wouldn't mind living there, I have looked into engineering jobs in the area because my fiance's boss wants her to move out there. It would be tough to leave the dragon though.
May be headed back there in a couple weeks, her boss is really trying to tempt me because they are moving the business there and want my fiance to keep working for them. VatorMan 08-06-2007, 10:10 AM Don't let these knuckleheads scare you away from Myrtle Beach. We used to go every year. We did stay in N. Myrtle Beach because Myrtle itself was a lillte seedy-especially close to the the boardwalk. N. Myrtle beaches were very nice and have warmer water than Nag's Head. Lots of shopping areas, touristy stuff, etc. Calabash is just up the road in N. Carolina and you can catch a fishing trip on the Hurricane fleet. Enjoy your trip!! OneSickPsycho 08-06-2007, 11:19 AM There's a bar/restruant down in Merle's Inlet that is supposed to be cash money... I forget what it's called. My folks go down every year for bike week, I'll ask them and report back...
All I remember from my trip was where the good strip clubs are... :leaving: 1hottbikechic 08-06-2007, 11:52 AM Just got back from there. Make sure to check out the Ripleys Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach!! It's awesome and nothing like any aquarium around here.
Also go to Barefoot landing, its a total blast especially for kids!! It's got an alligator farm, tigers the whole nine yards. Plus lots of cool places to eat and shops.
Those are some good ideas that will certainly keep you guys busy. And make sure to check out their putt putt there its some of the most elaborate you will ever see! It's the putt putt capitall of the US :)

:yup: for Barefoot Landing... House of Blues is a good place to eat, but expensive... more reasonable is Mad Boar, which has great beer. GSXRGirl 08-06-2007, 12:14 PM Thanks for the Charleston recommendations.
Sorry for the Highjack ItGirl ;) Ineffable 08-06-2007, 02:42 PM I went to Myrtle Beach last August on vacation with some friends for a concert. Like everyone said there is a TON of stuff to do, all you have to do is drive up and down the main road along the coast. Not sure what all there is to do with your kids though, there is an alligator and bears (I think it was bears) farm if I remember correctly and the House of Blues is a pretty cool place to hang out. lol I did meet a hot romanian chick there who was here on a student visa at the beach though. Sorry I cant be much help. Some advice is pay special attention to your directions because they named the streets there like idiots (ie a 86th ave N 86th ave and 86th ave S are all COMPLETELY different streets miles away from each other) took us a bit to find our hotel since we were on the wrong 86th ave. Also dont eat at the DQ there, friends did and they all got food poisoning. If you smoke go north about 30 miles into north carolina and cigarettes are dirt cheap. Also there are about 2 protected left turn signals in the entire state so just keep that in mind when trying to get back across N Kings Highway, its easier and quicker to just take a right off onto a side street and circle back around to an intersection. itgirl25 08-06-2007, 10:39 PM Thanks for the Charleston recommendations.
Sorry for the Highjack ItGirl ;)
no prob!
thanks everyone for the suggestions. we were just so bored with OC MD, wanted to try something new. if we weren't already booked i'd look into the other beaches suggested. maybe next year. 1BadCBR 08-06-2007, 10:44 PM itgirl, there is so much to do in MB.
