Congrats on the move.
LMAO... Yeah GA drivers aren't much better, but at least you've got some nice roads within reach now (North GA mountains are  )

hey BM just curious how well they paid at your old job? I'm thinking of doing something like that (that requires less experience) after graduation... then go to grad school after a year or two.

i got outsourced so i got screwed on the pay. the position is negotiable (i would guess at around $50k/year, it's hourly) don't worry about the experience, you will learn on the job. just make sure you have help desk and infrastructure experience.

i forgot to mention, there are 2 types of network admins. WAN and LAN. this job is LAN based. server and router config is setup by WAN admins. their pay rate is usually $80k/year and requires cisco certs. LAN admins deal with user moves/changes/creations and help desk requests. there is also PBX and printer support.

:thx1: good info...
for my overall career it would probably be better for me to go straight to grad school...but I'm young enough that I don't need/want to hurry my education up.
so I want a job that pays decent (enough for a decent bike ) but is low pressure so I can just chill for a few years. but network admin can be stressful sometimes too, I'm sure.

it's usually a boring job when everything is working correctly. everything is automated so there's only reading logs and spying on user's internet activities. btw, i have a graphic design degree. i googled all the necessary information to do this job.
my suggestion, go into management. stay away from tech jobs. IT directors and managers make the big bucks and hire the techs to do their jobs.

Welcome to Georgia. And yes our drivers suck. If you are smart you'll never let your two wheels hit the Perimeter. I've watched hybrids cut off Tractor Trailers hauling Nuclear Waste from the Savannah River Site. So they won't think twice about a bike.
Also if you go ITP (Inside the Perimeter) get use to being outnumberd by scooters.
Tyrone is a cool area. Plus I've always wanted to go to Peachtree City and race my bike down the golf cart roads and scare old Corvette(What I like to call the World's Fastest Golfcart) driving men.
