When do you STOP riding, due to heat?

We've been fortunate this summer... it's only been 100+ for less then 1 month... normally it's like that all summer.... :h20:

I work in a hot ass environment, heat is almost an enjoyment to me now. :dthumb: I do hate how heat robs so much power from the bike though. With such little weight and revvy an engine the power robbed from the engine is very noticable. It's a lot faster riding home in the cooler night than it is riding in about noon. :cursin:

I rode last week when it was 100-ish; heat index was 115. When moving, it was okay, but not moving? Felt like I was sitting in an oven. I'd say that's about the most heat I could tolerate....

I hate working in the heat But if it is that hot I just go without my jacket. and is only time i dont have one on. This has been discussed elsewhere (Back_marker actually made some good points on this, I believe), but it's actually a myth that you'll be cooler without your jacket. There's a long explanation for it, but you're actually going to keep your body temp lower with your jacket on than with exposed skin (also, exposed skin loses moisture faster, which leads to dehydration).

Even if it gets to 115 here.. I'll still commute to work it.. The HOV lane save me 30 mins both ways... I'll deal with the heat.. to save on time.

Yeah but science and seat of the pants deal are different. I FEEL cooler without the jacket and thats really all it comes down to. It may be less dehydriating and stressful on my body to wear the stuff but it sure as hell doesnt FEEL that way. Since im not assaulting a village in Iraq i'll take the FEEL DEAL any day:lol:

I've had an idea for an invention- I'll go ahead and share since I'm too broke and lazy to take it any further- so maybe one of you more motivated individuals can run with it- God knows I just want one... Any of you that have ever seen or worn a G-suit (not to be confused with a G-string) have seen the hose that has a quick disconnect that supplies pressure to the suit during high G turns. Well how about an air condition compressor small enough to hook to a bikes gear box- that forces cooled air into your leathers thru a similar type hose. The leathers equipped with small air tubes that disperse the cooled air throughout from the legs to the shoulders- you could even have a connection for your helmet. Full leathers air conditioned/heated would allow you to keep your body temp comfortable and SAFE no matter what the outdoor temps are. Now someone invent the Shiat and give me a free set since it was my idea. :tt:

Near 100*. But depends largely on the humidity. I'll go out if the humidity is low and it's over 100*, although those temps don't occur with much frequency in Beantown. I ride with my leather jacket, always. It can get hot in there quick, especially if there's a ton of traffic.

It's never too hot or too cold, rode this winter in 30 or less weather (crazy for FL I know) and rode yesterday in 116 degree weather. I will admit, I got so hot towards the end when we stopped I wanted to vomit, but when moving it aint no big thang!! As for the cooler with gear thing, I think the principle goes that if you are wearing clothing and you are sweating, as the sweat dries on your skin it actually creates a natural a/c...even more pronounced when riding...

brie
08-13-2007, 05:39 PM
For riding around the city I limit myself to 100* or cooler since I end up sitting in traffic so much but out on the highways it's never too hot to ride. Just very very uncomfortable.

Phenix_Rider
08-13-2007, 05:51 PM
Doesn't matter to me. Hell, most days I ride to work and it's 40-ish, ride home and it's 90 with 50% humidity. I'll ride as long as the road's clear- damn the rain. Little water just means you need to clean the chain before you put it away for the night.

I think something similar could be devised and quite frankly I am surprised that it has not happened yet.

The mesh jacket is the best invention ever.:dthumb: It lets the air through but gives you incredible protection. When I grew up, the only place that had air conditioning was the movie theater. And I grew up on an island. OK, the western tip of Long Island, but it was an island. School, church, and the grocery store were all hot and humid. It just made me tougher. When you wear leathers and you're moving, it's cooler than jeans and t-shirt.

think the highest temp i ever rode in was 123, and that drains fluids faster then u can add the,. Also u can find a chart but as temps go up into the 100 range the humidity as a RULE must go down, so its one or the other, if humidity doesnt drop the temp will not continue to increase.. at 120 the max hum. is something like 7X.XX%. DYNCE I got my A*'s in the one size where the pucks sit aobut right... which also means i can only range about 185-200lbs and still fit in them, this year i enter winter at 193lbs...Not much beer gut room, gonna be a tough balance of fun and gut freeplay.

That chick's face is B U S T E D. Paper bag time. You're on drugs if you don't think this chick is hot... The fact that she's smart makes here way sexy... gby2ey-_bXM

You're on drugs if you don't think this chick is hot... The fact that she's smart makes here way sexy... Fair enough. Well that picture sucks, then. I'd nail the chit out of her in either of those videos.

:iagree: Here's an interesting article that goes into more detail. (http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/ExtremeHeat.html) I've never decided to not go on a ride b/c it' too hot. I just pray for rain to cool me off at some point during the ride. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m23/acalliste/smilies/singintherain.gif
