Captain Morgan 09-14-2007, 08:57 AM I sit on my ass at work all day long. Before this job, all my other jobs required me to move around a lot. This one, unfortunately, has me tied to my desk for 7 1/2 hours. I come home and then sit on my couch and surf the net (cause I can't do that at work) and eat and watch TV. Well, over the past year, I've started to get a gut and I don't like it. So, I took action. I still want my time to surf the net and watch TV at home, but don't want to sit on my ass anymore. Here's what I did...
ShanMan14 09-14-2007, 09:03 AM Good for you! Buying it is the easy part, USING it consistently is the tough part.
OneSickPsycho 09-14-2007, 10:10 AM Take that thing out into the middle of the street... and light it on fire... Then pick up those dumbells and really work out. I'd rather hack off my yarbles with a spork than run on a treadmill... Plus dude, chicks like a fat guy... I am living proof.
VatorMan 09-14-2007, 10:18 AM Nice looking clothes rack.
smileyman 09-14-2007, 10:21 AM You went out and bought a leg dyno? How do you know when your running rich? Where do you put the 0xygen sensor:yikes: If you get it working right let me know I may need to upload your map...You still run Cap'n Morgan hi octane race fuel right?

Captain Morgan 09-14-2007, 02:42 PM  to all. I don't intend to run on it much, but rather just walk while I'm surfing the net or watching TV. So far, it's worked out great. I'll let you know in a couple months if it's worth it. And as for the dumbells, I have been using them, but only every other day. I can use the treadmill on a daily basis. I hope. ;)

You can do thousands of exercises with those dumbells... I wish I had a set...

I want to get a set of those bowflex selecttech dumbells... they go from 5 up to 52.5 lbs each... you just twist a dial and it changes what combination of plates will come with the handle when you lift it out of the rack.
They save tons of space and have gotten great reviews from what I've heard.

Yeah, I've checked those out... They are the cat's meow... There's a few manufacturers that offer similar ones...
TOMMYTOM 09-15-2007, 03:57 PM I feel your pain- I've never been able to gain weight- six pack all my life without even excercising... until about 5 yrs ago- when I got my indoor job. Sitting in a cubicle will ruin you. All my coworkers are having health problems- one of which is 28 yr old and having heart problems. One other has developed diabetes. The others are going bald... these are guys who all started to fall apart since we left the floor and got into management. I cant wait to get out of there- I'm going BACK TO THE FLOOR as soon as I tranfer to LA. Humans were not meant to sit on their ass all day.

:iagree: Can't stand this sitting staring at a computer all day with nowhere else to go!
tormigroin 09-15-2007, 09:04 PM My favorite job was workin for GMU as a student, delivering all the large stuff to campus offices (boxes of paper, furniture, computers/etc). That and I spent most of my afternoons either driving around campus checking out the 'scenery' or hanging in the student union building, shooting pool. Unfortunately, it just didn't pay enough. :pity:

I thought about buying a set, but already had dumbells up to 35 pounds at that point. Wasn't worth the money. I could buy 3 more sets of dumbells and be at the 50 pound mark. A pair of dumbells basically costs the "weight" of one (i.e. 50 pound dumbells are about $50 for the pair). Since the Selecttech is about $300-$400 and only go up to 52.5, it just wasn't worth it to me. Now, if I didn't have ANY dumbells at all, I would buy the Selecttech for sure. Well worth it if you're starting with nothing.
King Bob 09-16-2007, 09:29 AM this is exactly why I refuse to be management. fluck that. I"d go completely insane and do things OSP only fantasizes about in his sickest nightmares to my coworkers.

I'm in management... That's probably why I do the things I do.
TOMMYTOM 09-16-2007, 09:59 AM Its also called GETTING OLD
:motz: - I think seriously though- people call it "getting old" but look at the lifestyle diff between someone in their 20's and someone in their 30's. I think more of it has to do with daily excersize then someones age. I know your metabolism slows but I think that is also a response to less daily activity.

Note that the selecttech are also adjustable in 2.5 lb increments though...
So if you have 35 lbs now.... add 27.5 + 40 +42.5 +45 +47.5 + 50 + 52.5 = $315....
also add to that the 2.5 lb increments you DON'T have between 5 and 35 lbs.... 315 + 7.5 + 12.5 + 17.5 + 22.5 +27.5 +32.5 = $435
That's more money and a CHITLOAD more space than the selecttech's would take up. Also, you could sell your 5-35lb set for a little bit of cash.
Regardless, :luck: with the new health kick :dthumb:

I completely agree. the more active you are the better shape you will be in, generally. But that wont stop your hair fallin out or receding . Yea your metabolism changes as you get older too. I use to not be able to gain weight at all. In my 20's I stayed around 140lbs, when active army 160lbs. Now I am 190lbs and only a sight gut and thats mainly from sitting in here soo much
