I was wondering what to get my father for Christmas. He's an avid deer hunter, with not much success mind you, but he's hard to shop for, so I need some help to find a good gift that doesn't cost too much $$$. Any ideas? MP, I know you're a hunter, :help: !!

Well, it really depends on what he already owns. You can always buy him some scent (doe in heat, dominant buck, etc.). Or, if you know that he doesn't have cover scents (which are VERY important), then you can buy him some human scent eliminating laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, and deoderant. Yes, the stuff works VERY well. I've had a doe walk right next to me (less than 5 feet away) and just look at me and wonder what the hell I was. If she couldn't smell me from that distance, then the stuff works.
If you know he has this sort of stuff, then you can get him things like a grunt call or rattling antlers.
Also, how does he hunt? Bow, shotgun, muzzleloader, handgun? Ammunition or heavily used accessories are always welcome. Things such as cleaning patches for guns or maybe some broadheads for the arrows.
Hope this helps.

Those are cool too, provided it would look right in his house.

Well that's a lot better than the lamp made with the deer feet I found! :puke:
And Capt., anything would look better than what he has...nothing. My mom took 95% of the stuff outta the house when she split! :bash:

Wow, that really sucks. Maybe you can find some deer pictures, or something to put on the walls.

Pictures are a nice idea! :dthumb: Or depending wether or not he has nice heavy hunting jacket. Couple of years ago I got my dad a thick hunting jacket at Dick's Sporting. He loved it! Or you could even just take a trip to Gander Mountain and just walk around maybe you will see something your dad likes. How bout a gift certificate to one of them? I know them seem cheesy sometimes and you would rather get him a present to open up but at least you can't go wrong and he can pick out what he wants or needs. I know it is so hard trying to shop for dads!
