With some recent K1200S discussion here, and bringing the helmetcam on an ascent last week of Loveland Pass, Colorado, thought I'd post the vid/images in case interest. Here's the 3:30 ascent of the north side. Recent snow had me dodging sand on the road. Indeed at 2:31 of the recording the bike slips out a bit . I do double line pass a vehicle or two slowly taking in the scenery or terrified of the drop-offs... or both. David Benoit's great "Linus & Lucy" is the music accompaniment... The Ascent of Loveland Pass - Streaming Video (http://www.farson.com/video/k12sloveland.wmv) Some of the pics from the ride. Pausing at Loveland Ski Area just below the Continental Divide. Can see a lift ascending the Divide at the upper right. Ski area will open later this month. This is where the onboard recording begins... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/lovelandpassski.jpg Turning around, to the top we are going... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/lovelandnorthroad1.jpg About halfway up, a pause... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/k1200slovelandnorth1.jpg Continental Divide with moisture on this side flowing to the Gulf, the other side to the Pacific... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/k1200slovelandnorth2.jpg And I rotate left 90 degrees to see the road continuing to the top. This is not a place to ride distracted :)... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/lovelandnorthroad2.jpg At just under 12,000ft., the pass summit looking to the north... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/k1200slovelandsign.jpg To the south it is less gentle... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/k1200slovelandsouth1.jpg Can see the Arapaho Basin ski area in the distance. This is a high one, often not closing for the season until July... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/k1200slovelandsouth2.jpg Sigh, now the chore of riding down :)... http://www.farson.com/k1200s/lovelandsouthroad.jpg

A good ride. Yeah... have some horses in the barn here. Peter Egan noted once over beers with some buds, that they decided five was about the right number of bikes. It was in one of his classic columns, also noted in his book "Leanings". The list... - sportbike - sport tourer - dual sport - big cruiser - classic/collectable. Well, don't have a classic or collectable. Hmmmm. Ha!
