The Saint 10-24-2007, 09:06 PM Pictures don't do that bike - or any Bimota for that matter - justice. I like the Delirio, but the Tesi 3D is the Dream Bike.

More like a Buell rotor. Looks like the blue things hold it to the rim. Max lean angle is 45 degrees.

I am sure it is a great piece of performance, but it would take a while to grow on me. Might look better in person, but if I had an extra 30K to drop on one I could let it sit in the garage until it did grow on me.

I assume you're being sarcastic. Most sportbikes can go a decent amount more than that, especially with aftermarket rearsets. The tires are usually what limits them at that point, assuming they are street tires. PP's, for example, can do about 52 degrees.

For being a know-it-all, you sure are a dipchit sometimes... If you don't think a 45º max lean angle is impressive on the Tomahawk, then you are a total moron.

I'm not impressed because that thing sucks, and probably doesn't even ride well at all let alone lean. Stupid concept.
How does the thing even lean? With two tires off the ground? Or do the swingarms rotate axially? That might be impressive. But they probably just measured how far it could lean before those cylindrical things on the lower front swingarms would touch the ground. Stupid.

It wasn't built, but to do anything other than display the V10 engine...
I figured an engineer would appreciate what goes into creating something like this.

It is cool that the swingarms move/slide to keep the tires on the ground. But the whole idea of it is stupid anyways. I'm sure it handles awfully and weighs a thousand pounds. I'd like to see someone actually riding that thing on a fast sweeper at the supposed 45 degree lean angle.
As an engineer, no, I still don't like it. Maybe a designer would appreciate it.
I don't like most concepts in general because they are just made to produce press. They are flashy, don't function, and are impractical. All they need to do is roll into a showroom, withstand a thousand flashbulbs, and roll out. They usually barely even run, let alone perform well. I guess the first part of your statement fits right in here: it was built to display the engine. Check. It was also built to generate press and stir things up. Check. Mission accomplished for Dodge, and I applaud them for their radical thinking. I still don't like it, though.
Now, when someone takes a concept idea, engineers it flawlessly to work and last the life of the vehicle, implements it into the manufacturing process without blowing the budget, and puts it out on the market in large numbers of vehicles on schedule, that is what impresses me.

Technically, they all do. when they die/break, the "life" of the vehicle could be considered over. Otherwise, there has never been anything engineered to do this. :idk: so it's either win or lose, depends on how you look at it.
ceo012384 10-29-2007, 01:14 PM Has that ever happened?
Yes.

They all do? No way, pal. The life of components do not necessarily corrolate to the life of the vehicle. There have been MANY components on various vehicles not implemented properly. All vehicles have their own little quirks. Certain generations of Audi A4's have aluminum control arms that liked to snap, for example. Maybe my post wasn't written clearly enough.
What I meant was, say a company comes out with a new suspension concept. They then market the idea at a car show and it is received well. After that, someone has to take the idea and implement it, and make it actually work and be reliable, not break the bank, be easily serviceable, and get it on the vehicle and working by the vehicle's release date. When that is done well, that is the part that impresses me. Not far-fetched unrealistic ideas or concept cars that don't even run.

Guess I was being picky with it.
Going from a concept vehicle, most everything is going to be a new idea on it... at least with the rest of the design.
Soo... for it to all last the "life of the vehicle" what is actually allowed to break without making it a failure?
There will always be something that breaks sometime, I don't care how well it's engineered... That was my point...
Probably a missinterpritation between us.
odawg315 11-02-2007, 03:54 PM Not necessarily. Stiffer than what?
pretty much all aluminum frames, exotic bikes with carbon frames like the sb8 are stiffer then a steel trellis, but has almost no flex to it and are suseptable to cracking.
