:idk: Okay, I'm at a loss... I feel like worlds biggest dope. :loser: Let me give you the run down first. So after several weeks of looking at bikes, prices, researching the information, market values and all that jazz. I went and looked at the bike that I 'THOUGHT' I wanted. Now mind you I read this guide http://www.clarity.net/adam/buying-bike.html and did the stuff listed in the guide. Well as some of you may know the bike is a 1999 SV650 with just under 17K on it. In the add the guy says it has never been laid down, its in good shape and all that. When I get there I give the bike a look over and find that the left back blinker is taped together, the sight glass for the oil says it's low, and he has never changed(not the first owner of the bike either) never changed the chain and sprocket, theres a ding in the gas tank with minor scratches, the bar ends are bent at some what of an angle. So I offered the guy 2K he was asking 2700 market is 2300. He wouldn't take it, wouldn't go any lower then 2500. I didn't buy it just yet, so heres my question. After knowing all this and knowing what it's worth would you still go through with it. I am having SERIOUS doubts about buying this bike. I know of another bike that is some distance from me, 99 ninja 500r with only 4k miles on it and the seller is only asking 1500 for it. I am having serious doubts guys. What should I do??? Oh yea, I went shopping today and got Gear, check it out http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j318/s0ulburn24/0012.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j318/s0ulburn24/0011.jpg http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j318/s0ulburn24/0013.jpg The jacket is freakin sweet, adjustable sleeves, zip out liner, with the shoulder, elbow and spine protection, I couldnt find the pants to go with it though. I am also scheduled to start my MSF course too.... So, :tt: What should I do about the bike situation:idk:

:tt: Well, so far 8 views and no input :leaving: I myself have come to the conclusion that you guys SUK!! :nee Im kidding, :motz: I don't know what Im gonna do, I like the SV but Im not gonna get ripped off. Oh and that guide is right when it says that dealers will try to push you to get something bigger. I stopped by a dealer yesterday when I was picking up my gear, and asked a sales guy some quesitons and he was trying to tell me to get a 750 cause commuting with the 650 would have it topped out at rpms??? on the highway at 65 to 70 I don't know what roads hes riding on but here if your commuting it's pretty much stop and go, on a normal day in traffic and on a clear day it's 70 at best. :skep:

personal experience alone... when in doubt... :idk: Walk it out... :leaving: If it doesn't feel right to you... don't do it. There are plenty of other bikes out there. And do you want to have to go through the work of updating the things that haven't been done?

Don't let your love for the type of bike override good judgement on the bike's condition. I would be most concerned over the low oil. Not only is the low oil a bad sign regarding the current owner's upkeep of the bike, it also speaks volumes for his intelligence. Would you show a bike with low oil? Me personally, I'd walk and keep looking.

Nice gear. I would tell the guy to go **** himself. From your description it sounds like its been down before so if he lied about something so obvious there could be other things wrong with the bike. 17k miles and no oil change + I get the feeling this kid probably rides like he wants to be Rossi = I wouldnt buy the bike.

First off, was the bike on the kickstand when looking at the oil level... Was the bike running? Either way, I am with these guys... If it don't feel right... walk away. Further, that sales guy that tried to sell you a 750 is a moron... and I would have told him so. "No thank you, you obviously have no idea what the hell you are talking about, moron."

Yeah definatly wouldnt do it. If you dont feel right about it and then get it. Your going to keep thinking about it, wondering if it a peice and you got SOLD. There are PLENTY of bikes flying around. No use in skimpin for a bike that gives you the heebe jeebes.

I'd skip it. There's so many good deals to be found out there that you don't want to waste your time with a dishonest seller. There's no telling what else he can be dishonest about. Protect your money and move on. Nice gear btw. I have the same jacket in yellow and am pretty pleased with it. Survived a low speed low side- Saved my shoulder big time!

No Worries

Get the 500, ride the crap out of it, and then buy the 750.

And I GOT A NEW BIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!:phat: I didn't think I would get approved but I did. I was told a long time ago that your first reaction is usually correct when it comes to decision making... worked for me in the 3rd grade on multiple choice exams, works for me now in situations like yours. Re-thinking it just leads to confusion and in emotionally charged decisions like buying a bike, that's obviously not a good thing.

Yeah, thats crazy. Whats funny is I went back to the same dealer today and thats where I ended up getting the bike I got. So, I went back looking for the guy and ended up talking to a different sales guy that was my age and wasn't just trying to make a sale. This one worked with me, he let me take my time and make my mind up. Which I thought was cool. I think I just caught them early. Cause they hadn't even rolled the bikes out of the show room yet :slol:

I've hit 162, backed off. It tops out around 165-170. At Brainerd (closest track) on the main straight, a good rider on a liter will hit 170+ and take corner one at 120-130... That's FAST

If you don't feel right about it man, just take your time and walk out of there, either he'll lower the price much much lower to your liking or you'll find something else better in the end. The best part about drunk posting is that not only is it really funny the next day, but you can see what time you went to bed. Notice last night it was 1 to 1:30. That is really early.
