Atlantasmittie84 10-28-2007, 09:37 PM As much as I dislike eagles (And find it more apauling that one is our national symbol). I love that bird. Mainly becuas ever since I hit a deer with my truck I've grown a hatred of them. Oh yeah and almost slamming into one on my motorcycle while doing 70mph didn't make me a fan either.
So I'm glad to see Bambi go. Deer serve no purpose to humans anyways. They tear up crops, destroy vehicles, and just take up space. King Bob 10-28-2007, 09:38 PM well, that eagle got dinner. no question who is the king there. trock 10-28-2007, 09:40 PM As much as I dislike eagles (And find it more apauling that one is our national symbol). why do you dislike eagles? birds of prey are my favourite animals (great eye sight, mastery of flight, and very focused).

Birds of Prey are theives more than anything. Yeah they look cool catching that fish and it is a remarkable task. But what the Animal Planet fails to show is after that bird catches the fish how another bird comes in and snatches it the first chance it gets. Which is why Benjamin Franklin disliked it as our national Symbol. And his suggestion of the national bird being a Turkey was far superior. But Mr. Franklin was far superior to any American to ever live and probably will always be superior until the collapse of our nation.
And I liked his idea (As an anonymous writer) of having the Rattlesnake as our national symbol. (He thought of this while seeing the Gadsden flag). 1/4Mile@ATime 10-28-2007, 10:22 PM dang :yikes:

thievery in nature is not the same as thievery in humans. birds of prey like eagles are predators. a turkey is prey. why would anyone want a prey to symbolize the U.S.A. I don't think snakes will be popular. In a christian colony, the snake symbolized the demon.
as for Ben, you do know he owned slaves...

I don't believe Ben owned slaves considering he didn't own a plantation. He owned a printing press. Even at the peak of Slavery I think only 3% or so of Americans/Colonists owned slaves and they would had to of had the equivalent of money that Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Steve Jobbs, Oprah, etc have in order to have them.
The reasoning for the Turkey is that Turkeys are exclusive to America (Bald Eagles can be found in other parts of the world). They survive off the land. They don't steal. And a few other reasons I have no clue about.
As for the snake. Read this and it gives an interesting insight into Benjamin Franklin...

And animals steal for the same reasons human's steal. It gains them the most reward for the least amount of resistance. We are all animals and a thieving bird is just as bad as a thieving human. ceo012384 10-28-2007, 11:13 PM That video was awesome. argue that with that thieving bear  trock 10-28-2007, 11:37 PM Should have been a snake. (One of the symbols of Sigma Nu is the serpent) Back _Marker 10-28-2007, 11:57 PM I don't believe Ben owned slaves considering he didn't own a plantation.
Mr. Waldstreicher (http://www.nysun.com/article/233?page_no=2), a professor of history at Temple University, understands all too well Franklin's ingenious facility for portraying himself as he wished to be recalled. "When Americans think of Benjamin Franklin, they think of freedom," he begins. Yet Franklin's relationship to the peculiar institution proves to have been ambivalent at best.
It wasn't only that he owned slaves and, according to Mr. Waldstreicher, "never systematically divested himself of them": Franklin made money by the lash. His newspaper, the Pennsylvania Gazette, was emphatically a master's paper. Its pages contained not only news from Europe and other colonies but advertisements for runaway ser vants and slaves. Masters paid Franklin handsomely for these.

eh? snakes also have negative qualities, such as cannibalism. rattlers also exist in mexico and south america, not exclusive to the U.S.

animals kill to live, humans kill for sport. there is a difference btw animal thievery and human thievery. humans steal not for survival, but for greed (Bill Gates).
Franklin, of course, is also known for opposing the use of an eagle -- "a bird of bad moral character" -- as a national symbol.
i just lost total respect for Ben. Animals do not have morals. that is a human trait.
-a|ex PlayfulGod 10-28-2007, 11:59 PM as much as this is going to piss alot of people off, oh well its fact  This nation was founded on christian principles, and in that aspect the serpent represented evil.
I think this nation has lost the principles it was founded on in favor of what makes more $$ and what makes me feel good at this very moment type of mentality. OneSickPsycho 10-29-2007, 12:36 AM I think this is a good thread gone :gary:... Great vid, dumb conversation. z06boy 10-29-2007, 08:46 AM That is a cool video.
