Shift 10-31-2007, 06:51 PM NOT!!!
The trip,
Sunday morning, meet at recruiters office at 10:30. Wait around for the Marines who are taking forever. 11:30, ok time to get on the bus. Pensacola-Montgomery, normally less than a two hour trip, add about 4 stops, a 100 year old driver, and 3 and half hours later, we arrive at the hotel and 3. Drop off the marines that are shipping of the next day while the rest of us are takin to the MEPS to take the ASVAB. Kinda nervous but not really, expecting a near 3 hour test, finish in a little over an hour. Once everyone is finished we return to the hotel.
The Hotel.
The staff, total dick heads. But the hotel itself was nice, pool tables, ping pong, pool, hot tub, PS3 and xbow 360 both connected to flat screen LCD tvs. Dinner was pretty good I guess, all you can eat buffet style. Morning call came at 4 am. Reported for breakfast at 4:30, breakfast was amazing, butt I regretted it 10 min later when I was starting to feel the ****s. 5 am the busses to MEPS rolled in, 5:05 we pulled out of the parking lot.
The MEPS
Off the bus and through the metal detector. Wait about 10 min in the briefing room. Guy comes in "blah blah blah" tells whats going to happen, already heard the routine a 1000 times. Passes out soem paperwork to everyone containing all their info. Now come the test, hearing-eyes-blood pressure-blood withdrawn for HIV-then the urine test. Three at a time, all 2 feet back from the urinal with our cups, about 6 inches apart from one another side by side, and the fat red headed doc watching us, of course I couldn't piss at all. Wait, wait wait, "ok son you got 1 more min". Ah ****, finally it comes to me. Next is the private physical with the doc. "Drop you shorts to your knees. Im thinking ok nothing strange just a normal physical. Next comes "bend over and spread your cheeks" :wtf:. After all is done go done with all my paper work to see the coun. He gives me my AFQT score-90 , M-87, A-87, G-92, and E-96. I pick out the top 5 jobs I want in electrical.
Problem While going through my physical they seen I had a surgery as a kid, on the prescreen form I put records were no longer available. However before I could swear in they wanted a hospital statement backing my statement. So yesterday I got said paperwork and had my recruiter fax it up to them and I will go back up next week to swear in.
The waiting
I was one of the first in line at the beginning of the day, so I was the first to see the air force counselor, however my day stoped there because I needed the hospital document beofre I could proceed any further. That was at 9:30 am. The bus back to Pensacola didn't arrive untill 4 Pm. So yea there was some waiting, waiting, and more waiting. :yaewn:

Hey Shift if your joining up your going to be saying this alot
6doublefive321 11-01-2007, 10:04 AM That was one of the longest days of my entire life. :nonod:
Longest 3 days in my life (1986). Spent the night in the luxurious Shoney's Inn in Nashville, got up and went to processing the next morning. Ooops, my name wasn't in the computer queue (thank you 1980's computer technology), so I got to sit on my ass and wait until everyone else processed. Went back a month later to the same Shoney's inn, and got processed that time. Since I was delayed entry, I got to go through AGAIN 8 months later when I was shipping off to Fort Knox. Three trips to the Shoney's inn, three tremendous drunks, three horrendous Shoney's buffets with a throbbing hangover, and an anal probe from Dr. Pham to boot. After that, basic training was a breeze.
tallywacker 11-01-2007, 12:17 PM Even though MEPS was horrible, reception at FT Benning was MUCH worse.

:iagree:
But i was at Ft. Lost In The Woods...
tallywacker 11-01-2007, 01:40 PM Ur gonna be asking yourself why the hell did i have to do that at MEPS when u get to reception because u do it all again plus shots, finace, optical, CIF issue, and a fatboy PT test that a paraplegic could pass yet some fail. There is no plus side this time cause your going to be standing all day long.
VatorMan 11-01-2007, 01:57 PM I HATED in processing. Send those f'n processing doctors to Iraq-guaranteed to get what info you need. Sadistic bastards.
papapoi 11-01-2007, 02:10 PM i remember my last meal before i went to basic training was a 23 ounce porterhouse at a restraunt. on my way to Fort Jackson.

My last meal was six 24 oz. Budweisers, then a one hour ride in a 10 passenger plane at 95 degrees. :barf:

We got drunk the night we stayed over to go to MEPS. Had a great time.
I enjoyed the Air Force when I was in. Nothing but good memories, even at Basic training.
