I was just wondering what everybody here does. I am currently in school, but don't really know what I want to do. I have thought about engineering, but not sure if it is something I would enjoy doing for the rest of my life. It seems interesting now, but what about 10 years later? I have also thought of an econ/business degree, but have no clue what I would do with it. I would like to start a higher end car and motorcycle rental business but don't think it would do all that well, and require a huge amount of money to start up. Basically, I am lost and confused as to what to do with the rest of my life, and was wondering if you guys and girls could share what you do.

Systems Administrator and Information Assurance/Security for the US Army (contractor). Takes a lot of $$ and time to stay on top of your game in the IT Field, and honestly the best place to stay on top of your game is as a military contractor..... the military has the budget and the direction for staying somewhat close to the top of the playingfield when it comes to hardware.... not always so much on software though.... but they've been getting better.

I'm a junior in college, computer engineering. LOTS of work but decent money :dthumb: :luck: with your decision. remember, nothing like this is permanent. plenty of people get a degree, work a while, then go back and get a completely different degree.

Thats the problem. I hate school, so I have a feeling if I leave, I'm leaving it for good. I was in a geomatics engineering program, basically surveying, and just didn't like it. I've thought about mechanical and aeronautical, but the Calc 2 just kills me. Its not that its impossible, its just if I don't see the point in math, I tend not to do well in it. I need to see a practical application. I appreciate the responses so far.

NP. I think of some great advice given to mewhile I was in jr/sr high school. "If you love your job, you'll never really work a day in your life." Hence the reason why I'll be leaving the IT field in a few more years... lmao. But anyways, best luck on your decision. And my :2cents: Finish up your degree.... :luck:

I'm a mechanical engineer. I got my BS, and now I'm working on my MS (with thesis) and then my PhD. I do research as well as take courses. I'm almost done with course requirements though. The school gives me free tuition and covers my living expenses. Good deal. Stay in school as long as you can and collect degrees, preferably not paying for them if you can. The market sucks right now anyways.

I wanted to go into the navy to be a pilot, but my eyes sucked. Same here I can't see sh** without my contacts in. Time all depends on where you go. If you want a degree you're looking at about 4 years going to school and flying at the same time, and maybe a year or so after college before you can get on with a regional airline (just depends on how much you flying you get in) you'll need about 1000 hrs of flight time before you can get hired. If you decided to go that route don't listen to the idiots at the schools major in something other than aviation so you have something to fall back on if you need it, and get a minor in aviation. If you don't want a degree you can go to ATP, COMAIR ACCADAMY or somewhere like that and be in and out in about 1.5 yrs. Downside no degree and you spend just as much. Hope that helps

If you really enjoy your job, its more like getting paid to enjoy your day than to work. just do what you feel is right for you. Yeah, I know its not about the money. In the old program I was in, I was basically guaranteed to make about 70-80k within a year of graduating, not including the 30k I would have made combined during the summers to essentially pay for school. That is actually the reason I am unsure what I want to do. I thought for sure I was going to like it, but I didn't, in fact I hated it.
