I am a Samurai. I hold that my courage, dignity, and honor will bring victory. I appreciate all forms of art and strive for a heart and mind at peace with the forces of nature. I practice to become one with my weapon (bike) and seek an honorable and brave death. http://www.twowheelforum.com/photopost/direct_data/532/medium/Samurai.jpg Ninja are but soul-less assassins, corrupt in their spirit, honoring nothing but the art of assassination. Contrary to what movies say about Samurai, they were generally corrupt and interested primarily in keeping their jobs and earning a great deal of money (for the time) at the expense of the serfs/peasants/slaves/etc. They were warriors who served their respective lords in various battles between their clans or against others. Over time, they became a form of nobility and took up more artistic pastimes. But really, they were simply members of various lords' personal militaries. As usual, Hollywood has romanticized that which was dirty and crude in reality. All three groups lived corrupt, brutal lives; but at least Pirates got to see other parts of the world (assuming they survived their first voyage) so I'll vote for them.

Some the best pirate stories were of women. Grace O'Malley was probley the best. She didn't actually do the Caribbean thing, but she owned husband. Not only were Pirates explores, they were Generals and commanded large armies of men. That is kinda my point. They were agents of other influences much the same way the Samurai carried out the Shoguns rule. Hence they are the instruments not the force of change. My thoughts were that the Vikings as explorers and traders carried on without outside influences, only their only village, clan, city's interests. True privateers. I see your point on how pirates were instrumental in the region. I was making a point for a global influence. Americas to the Far East and Europe. Both as raiders, and agents for cultural exchange. I still think they were MORE influencial...

yeah but think of the dialect.... vikings were of course the original pirates.... they started off with "BARRRRR!!!" and such, clear meaning to why they were commonly refered to as Barbarians (see the game Ceasar 2, you'll clearly notice the distinct characteristics of the vikings as barbarians... games don't lie, especially Ceasar 2). Then came the sophistication of the vikings, to what we commonly now refer to as the Carribean Pirate Time. This transformation to the warmer climate made them loose the longboats and those badass hats for eyepatches, parrots, and wooden legs. Not the best evolution I'd say, but hey, when in rome, right? This also changed their dialect.... "BARRRR!!" was soon transformed to "AAARRRRGGGG." one of the most common known pirate words to date. The rest, as they say, is history, ladies and gentlemen.
