Okay, ladies and gents, I need some advice. I'm itching to get a new bike. I'm not rich person, I'm average..not even above. Web designerMake good enough money, save very little. Right on, moving along. So...lately, i've been desiring a 748s (00-02) or a 916 (98-00). I'm looking to spend about $6000/65000 for those bikes. I love the exclusivity and the styling of these bikes But should I just get a more reliable bike (that I love) such as the GSX750 (06-07)... Or another option (the hardest...seeing I'm not good at waiting)..is to save a couple hundred or so each month and try for a Duc 848 within the next year or two. Any advice? I'm a rider that doesn't do many track days but find myself at the twisties every weekend, just about. Thanks.

just get the 750. all will satisfy you but the 750 is the most sensible considering price. unless being different is that much more important than $$, b/c i know gsxr's are a dime a dozen.

Those are drastically different machines. tru dat :iagree: might want to narrow it down by engine type? me I'd get the gsxr750. If something breaks on your Duc you're gonna get screwd for repair

I say go w/the 750 for now. See if you like it. If you do, great. If not, you have a bike to trade/sell, and some time to save up some other money for the Duc.

JMHO Save your pennies, spend more money and get a new model or one with low miles. You will NOT find a Testretta motor model in decent shape for less than $8K unless it's been crashed and then you'll need to spend some bread to make it right. Do not buy any used high milageTestretta model (any of the 4 valve heads) unless you are willing to have the followers/cams examined by at Duc mechanic. Ducati had an ongoing issue with the hardchroming flaking on them for about 5 years; galled followers will run you a couple grand, and usually require new cams, too. It was an itermittant problem, so all used 4 valve bikes should be examined.
